What's your view?

Ever since playing Colin Mcrae on the PS1 I've loved on-board views. I'm so happy that PD has made such a good job of the interior view. For me it just adds to the illusion of competing in a real race.

well i used to always use externals up to GT4, but i just cannot resist the beautiful interiors now, especially matched with the more realistic physics. It's all so much more real now. Interior 99% of the time.

As some have mentioned when I drive my eyes focus outside the windscreen. I dont see the wheel the pillar or the dials unless i look down. I can see the bonnet though. Maybe this is something that PD could look at? I believe the R1 button is free just now. Having said that I would like a look left/right function. L1= look left R2= look right and both is look behind...Anyone with me on this?

Um er, next we'll have Formula 1 drivers using GPS to get around tracks.

Seriously lads, your taking away the whole game by using that birdseye view, In real life you can't see much of the corner ahead, drivers know the corner due to practice.

And to be honest thats the best way, so stick it in the in car view and hit those curbs like Britany Spears hits her vodka and you'll be pro within 1 hour.

I didn't use the birdseye view because I wanted to. To my eyes it was nearly impossible to find my way around a track on PS1 games because of the low resolution, far distances away with the camera low to the ground is very difficult to see. It's purely a resolution limitation. Not a blind corner issue. The blind corners are easy enough to navigate but it bugs me I can't see 100 yards ahead from the ground because all I get are big ass pixels.

Once I got used to the tracks on those games, and from the get-go with the PS2 games, I've used bumpercam because it was doable for me. I actually can't stand the birds-eye view, to be frank. That's why I got away from it as soon as I learned the courses better.

The interior view, though, is really the only way to play as far as I'm concerned. Like I said before, I'll be using it 100% of the time in GT5P/GT5.

I prefer racing in the 3rd person view when using the controller, but when I have the race wheel it's either 3rd person or cockpit view. It's hard for me to drive at my peak performace when I don't know where my car is or how much of an angle my car is at while drifting if i'm in the in car view. With real driving you can feel where your car is at, not so much when playing a game.

I like to use the new on board view as much as possibile, but i find i am just that bit quicker with the bumper view.

I would like to use the incar view but i play on a 4:3 SDTV which is not wide enough to have the backmirrors.. so i use bumper view.

Also i must say (again): GT5:P is great !
But the chaseview is crap. Yes, sorry - its crap.

It looks so arcade style and i cannot believe anyone is using this.

And again: Theres one single reason for this that after all (Hi Kaz..) could be fixed soo easy:

Its does not swing around the car !! Its overmuch fixed to the car !!

Look here: this is a good chaseview (Err - that game is 6 years old...)
(The car could even spin 360 and the cam angle stays in the direction of the track)

some good news for you then, if you go into controller setup from options you can map buttons to do exactly that, i use the left stick, works nice! Hope that helps.

I like the inside view. The Bumper wiev is also pretty good, but i find inside the car more realistic. The outside view, is horibel much to arcade stylish.

I use the inside view in every game i can, it helps mee to see how much wheel i have in the car with the sixaxis. In GT4 I used the roof cam to get my lines better and on GT5P I use roof cam on replays to see what I can improve on.

I use the bumper view but it seems a bit easier to control slides etc with the interior view, just don't like seeing all the dash, wheel moving etc
a view where all you can see is the bonnet/wings would be ideal i think

Seems like you will like the roof cam ;)

Love the in car view but bumper cam gives you a better idea of what's going on around you. Maybe it'll be better when you can use PSP's as wing mirrors.

Inside view, it so much more immersive, just wish I could switch some of the screen furniture off!

Inside view for me on GT5P never really used bumper cam always kiddy cam as some may call it but still in the top 5 every race

I think a poll is in order :) lol

In the 3rd and 4th games, I used chase cam because I enjoyed watching the car as it drove not to mention it was easier to see vehicles around mine. Since I haven't played GT5P yet, I have yet to choose one for it.

Seriously, the ability to turn off all the HUD info will be particularly welcome. Here's hoping PD has this on their list of enhancements! That and a little independent head movement within the cockpit (responding to cornering, accel/decel... too stiff at the moment) and it's perfect. :)

I love using the in car view, it just adds a little more realism.

It does make it harder to judge how cleanly you're racing on the PS3 since we poor sods in Australia don't have dual shock yet and if you don't have a wheel (yet)!

Still, first thing I did was assign the left and right views to LR and R2 so now I can watch and wave from inside my car as I overtake people...Cool!

Ooh, that would be great. I always wondered about the head movement thing. That would save us enthusiasts having to buy 2 more TVs for the enhanced cornering ability!

I've always been a big fan of the bumper view. I do like the cockpit view though and use it occasionally. But for things like serious races/time trials then its bumper view for me.

I'm actually just referring to how your viewpoint would change as the cars attitude changes, so hitting the gas in the Viper would result in the dashboard moving away from you on screen. PC sims do this very well, and Prologue feels too stiff... as if your head was strapped to the back of the driver's seat.

Either way, I've been using cockpit view exclusively for a about a month and can match my former bumper-cam laptimes at this point. Switching between left seat and right seat cars can prove a challenge for a lap or two, however... but I'll pay the "immersion" price, LOL. ;)

im really hoping to see trackIR support for head movement...
or similar functionality using the PSeye...

playing rFactor with trackIR is brilliant...
tight tracks like the Eiger become much easier, plus the movement of your shoulders with the wheel causes a bit of really natural feeling look to apex...

I love using the cockpit view, as others have said, it's so much more immersive and just adds to the realism. Although, I think I'm quicker when using the bumper cam.

i used in-car till i bought a wheel (driving force ex) yesterday, now i've switched to bumper cam

can't be doing with seeing the virtual hands and wheel as well as my own :)

I use in-car view on all cars except ones which have bad cockpits, like the Viper and GT, also if i'm having a hard race in online I use hood/roof cam, because you can be more accurate.
