can you do as well using a control pad as you can a wheel? i don't think you can so am gonna buy a wheel but what do you guys think?

You don't drive a car using a Dpad or analogue stick.

You need a wheel. Its gotta be a G25 too.

Hi guys,

I was about to start a similar topic... I am seriously debating between Driving Force Pro and G25, and cannot decide between the two. I think i can get DFP for a very good price from ebay, while G25 is going to set me back BIG TIME... (£150) I know my girlfriend is going to kill me if i spend that much ("You could have bought me some clothes!!!!")

Is the H shift and clutch really worth it? I am incredibly tempted as im getting student loan/grant very soon... Need to treat myself :)

It's all a matter of preference (and budget). For now, the sixaxis works just fine, but once I'm able to get a summer job, I'll seriously look into getting a wheel, probably the G25, but I'll not count out the new Logitech Driving Force GT just yet. The G25 is universally regarded as the best, as far as I know. And yes, the wheel will give you much more control, so with practice to get used to the new input device, it should be relatively easy to improve your driving line and lap times.

Im planning on getting a wheel 'soon' but you can certainly be competative in a race with the pad but the time trials are always going to be wheel users.
You'll also find pro mode/some cars are VERY unforgiving with the pad since its almost impossible to correct oversteer correctly with the sticks!

Wheel all the way! Iv got a Driving Force Pro and its SSSSOOOO much better than the controller!

I would love to get a G25, but I dont have the money (still a student)! :(

But as soon as my DFP dies or I get a spare £150 im going out to buy a G25, but not till after I upgrade the HDD in my PS3 from 60GB to 320GB!

I'm a student. I don't see how people don't have money. I am not a rich guy, I never have money for lunch even at school. But I save a lot, and If i need something I work. I take the Lawn mower and go to the neighbors to cut grass.. or Shovel off snow for neighbors. Just for shoveling snow for less then 2 weeks. I got money for PS3, few games. Then next year I got a wheel, G25, and a racing Cockpit for my B-day from myself. I still have money left over for US version of the game.
Easy as pie.

I'm using the sixaxis at the moment and its really uncomfortable on the thumbs with the D pad and X button  after 2 days I had table tennis sized thumb tips .. but still managed a few 1st place records in the mines GTR in the process even with the controller :)

In all fairness though the pad will never match the wheel on GT5P when everyone gets up to speed and more familiar with the physics ... so my new order for a wheel is already processing today and hoping to have it by Friday latest 👍

When watching the replay of a wheel versus sixaxis you can see the constant twitching to keep the car in the correct path that the pad user has to apply to keep the line they need .. wheras the wheel is simple turn in and a fraction of the work! wheel by a mile I would say also 👍

g25 is what i plan on picking up soon, but for now I'm just sticking with the sixaxis (unless I get the wheel before GT5P comes out here in the US). I've already played get with a wheel (GT Force, the GT3 wheel) and it was great until the pedals stopped working (I wish someone could tell me how to fix this cause I can't find anything), but anyway the wheel makes GT some much better and a lot more fun. And with a clutch pedal and H-shifter, I cannot wait to get the g25.

Well, most students who live away (in UK) spend A LOT for accommodation, and ofcourse parties, beers etc etc. Im living at home (first year uni) and i saved quite a lot (but i try not to touch the money). Though car insurance (£1500 a year :| ) and petrol eats up a lot of money...

I could buy a wheel, but won't, I didn't for 3 or 4 and don't see the point for a game. Also my living room would look silly with a desk and a wheel clamped to it...

Wheel for sure. Has to be G25. One word "CLUTCH"
Save your money it's worth it.

I use the left toggle stick with good effect. Not sixaxis :/

I could get a wheel if I wanted but my wife would kick my butt and my son would break it (if I didnt first).

Well dunno how much you earn doing work but i can not live from that alone  still get some from being a student etc so everything combined, i can live normal also thanks to still living at home only need to pay for food etc, but dont think you can call it 'easy' for most students here in holland :yuck:

I have a wheel Thrustmaster Universal Challenge 5 in 1 Racing Wheel for about 40 euro's which i am happy with, not the best wheel but nice budget wheel for ps2,ps3 and pc, but havent tested it with GT5p yet ...

We don't get snow and there's no grass.

you just need to look at the online videos!!! You can tell the difference with whose using a pad and whose using the wheel.

Suzuka is the big teller!!! The good guys using the wheel (in the first section of lap) hit every apex and exit the corners really smooth with no adjustments. But then yoy look at guys with the pad like me. I can stick decent times in with the pad but lines cant be inconsistent. :yuck::yuck:

I have size 13' feet. Will throttle control be an issue with me with those little toy pedals? And also do they feel realistic? It seems the other wheel/pedal sets ive had in the past just felt like plastic and springs when it came to the throttle and brake.

Well im in my final year at uni and working my ass off to get my degree! So I have to live off my student loan and dont have time to work just now!

All I have time for is uni work, looking for a job (for after I graduate) and play GT at the weekends, and sometimes during the week at night.

I really cannot decide between DFP and G25... I think il stick with DFP and save the money. Im sure it will still be much better than sixaxxis!

Does anyone have any answers for this ^ or no?

Damm straight we do! It's cost me £2,250 for my accomodation this year and i'm in the "cheapest" hall at Loughborough! I then am paying £30 a week for food. The fact it now costs me almost £40 ($80 USD) every 8 weeks to fill up a 1.3l Ford Ka which i barely drive. The UK is a fecking joke at the moment.

Again, damm straight. I'm lucky enough to not be living off my load due to a 3rd year placement, but the degree comes first in these last months over mowing lawns and buying anything other than the bare essentials (PS3, DS3 and GT5P, all of which are 120 miles away in Bristol so i can work on my dissertation!)

For the foreseeable future a DS3 is the best that i'm able to do, i don't have the space or funds to buy/run a wheel to a standard i'm happy with.
Just because something isn't perfect or what you use don't knock it!

Also, hasn't this been discussed about a trillion times already?? *whistles and waits for daan to close the thread with his usually dry Scottish wit! :D

Wow, from "wheel vs sixaxis" to "I have more expenses than you" in a few posts...

oohhh man,how many times i have seen this "use saxaxis or wheel" thing.....sorry guys but it anoyes me a bit....
PD are creating a simulation driving game that FULLY supports a racingwheel beceause it will give you all benefits the game has to offer!!!
and than still people are wondering about what is better:
1: a gaming controller with buttons
2: a racing wheel that simulates the (super close to)real thing

sorry,but isnt it obvious??
spyrrari.

Yes thats very obvious but sense you seem to know so much about the whole GT and racing wheel essentials maybe you can answer my simple questions. Out of the 2 steering wheels used for GT5P which one do you think has the most realistic pedal feel. Or which one do you use? And does the throttle and brake feel/function more realistic than the previous wheel for GT4?

the pedals on the g25 are plenty big enough. i wear a size twelve and they are fine for me. they are not made of plastic either. they're polished metal and each pedal has it's own feel to it. they feel pretty close to the real thing.
