The moaning kids of the PS3 generation got me thinking about what I had to get my racing fix when I was a lad.

Gran Turismo, eat your heart out, it's the:

Turnin' Turbo Dashboard

I spent weeks if not months playing with this thing. I loved it.

Any of you guys had a toy that you thought was epic that does not stand a chance against today's toys?

 My little cousin had one of these. I was entertained by it. :dunce:

LOL, I had this it was great fun back then! Totally forgot about this, thanks for reminding me. 👍

Haha. Excellent! I had something even more basic in the late 70s which consisted of a steering wheel and a spinning disc. You could attached a Matchbox or Hot Wheels car via a magnet to an arm which ran underneath, something like this:

Found it, the Matchbox Steer 'n' Go:

And a video:

Hours of fun! :D

Wow! Haha, it's awesome to think we were happy with these things.

I also had quite a bit of this kit:-

I remember that Tomy game! So much fun!

I also had a play mat and a pretty big "construction city" set...

Good times!

Ah, now you've got me thinking about my old toys.

I also had one of these which was a battery powered car controlled by punch cards. There were some plastic ones with preset routes and then there were loads of blank card ones which you cut yourself to design a course. I had the 'futurist' blue one - just my luck not to get the Ford Mark IV!

Apologies for the train-spotter commentary on the video - that isn't me, before you start. I'd fast forward to about 7 mins for the real 'action'. ;)

@axletramp

They are quite amazing. Reminds me of something we had at my primary school out in the Derbyshire Dales - it was mind blowing to me when I was 5 :)

I was still quite a young teen when GT first came out. Before that though there was this.

Awesomeness!!!

Oh hell yeah, Road Rash was my favorite! Remember the blue Diablo?

I remember getting beaten (physically) by my cousin for always winning because he was useless. It was my game though so playing all week and then going to his to play did leave me with a large advantage.

That's about all I remember. And being able to punch and kick other riders. Oh, the fun.

If we are moving on to video games, here is the first one I ever played. I had a Commodore C16 (which I sort of began my career in coding with, at the tender age of 6 thanks to BASIC - after that it was STOS on the Atari 520STFM) and the game of choice for me was Kickstart. Good times:

My gawd that Turnin' Turbo Dashboard was a toy I wanted so badly! My friend had one :(

I did possibly spend way too long playing this:

My first console was an Atari 2600. I've still got it and it still works*. I remember playing Vanguard on it for hours and got a high score of over 6 million.

Another favourite was Star Master - awesome!

*like so many things in life... :D

Road Rash!!

These are the games that founded my epic Division 1 Gold skills, just like F1 world champions I started in Gokarts...

Then I got my "saloon" car racing fix with this fabulous title.

Clocked both games by the age of 7 :sly:

Ahhh man I remember something very similar in primary school! Was great fun back then!

My first gaming experience that I can (just about) remember is of playing Paperboy on my mum's ex-boyfriend's console. Can't remember what console it was but it involved putting in a tape and then waiting for ages. :D

Then one Christmas I got a PS1 with GT2 and I was hooked for life!

THIS. IS. AWESOME. :dopey:

Damn right! The one that me and my brother had is long gone though. The last time I remember playing on it outside the house, it ended up getting covered in flying ants (I just so happened to be playing on top of a nest full of the bloody creatures). Good times

Also, when it comes to racing games, this is where it all started for me:

I was never any good at it, although I was 7 when I stopped playing it. I still have the old SNES packed away in my dad's garage along with that game, plus a copy of Street Fighter II.

Where on earth did you find one of them? I thought they died out with the dinosaurs?

I actually still have my old GT4 save at around 97% and thousands of A-Spec points left over. It's the only thing I couldn't part with when I left the UK. It went into storage along with this...

...which was going for 4 GBP!

Back on topic, anyone remember these?

Also, when it comes to racing games, this is were it all started for me:

I see your Nigel Mansell and raise you an Ayrton Senna:

Though my dad played it more than I did. I honestly spent a lot more time with this:

This is one of Activisions best games to date:

Back when it was new, I struggled on the 3rd or 4th set of missions, but I started playing it again 2 years ago... and I was still struggling.., then I finally got around to seeing Top Gun. Nailed it. But this game is by no means easy, this is just the first mission.
