Oh yes. Well maybe not thrilled, but certainly very, very shocked.

Anyway, this is why we have one-make tournaments and garage showdowns. Normally, no one bothers to drive the 512BB online. But when we had it as a tournament car, the races we did were challenging and fun. If it's not an organized event, there's no reason to drive an inferior car because you're just about guaranteed to lose.

After reading all this, I have to agree with Ardius on using a lesser car and doing well, even if not winning. I don't have GT5 so I can only compare it to being in a 200 A-Spec point race in GT4. They can be hard, but always worth it.

I'd rather GT5 didn't become a dictatorship, thanks. People are free to use whatever car they like, so if you don't like that, it's kinda tough luck...

That is pretty funny, someone did it last night at London. I was in a Z4 and they were in an Evo, and I kept up with them the whole race. The next race, they switched to the Z4 and I was miles ahead.

I'm the only GTP guy I know that is using the R35 GTR in Suzuka. It won't make me win races (against GTP drivers, because I have won many races against what I guess are casual gamers, cheaters and punters), but I like driving it. And, as I said many times before, I don't care about finishing position, I just like to race.

I can even tell you that my best racing memory so far was a race where there were only three racers in the grid: Sphinx, in a AWD car (Evo, I think), me and someone else I can't remember in a R8.

There were no overtakings in that race. Sphinx got ahead in the start, me in 2nd and the guy in the R8 in 3rd. Sphinx pulled away from me and I pulled away from the R8.

I didn't do any serious mistake for the entire 3 laps, and drove them all to the best of my ability. And I lost 1 second per lap, finishing 3 seconds behind Sphinx.

He probably doesn't even remember this race (I assume that, without any chalenge, he got bored to death in it ) but, to me, it was a great one.

A number of groups (clans, leagues, whatever) have run single-car races and ignore the interlopers. It doesn't matter what they do, only what the group drivers do. By the time Prologue gets updated, many unfamiliar cars will have been used during this type of group race. Depending on how many more cars we (may) get with the update, maybe most of them will get used by the time GT5 is released, too, with some luck.

In open rooms, I'll bring whatever I want to bring and check out cars that I don't normally see driven or ones I have never driven myself yet. There are still a few cars to discover in my garage which leads me to think that many players don't have all cars yet in the first place, probably because they are weak or have the wrong brand name on them (or for other similar reasons). That's a foolish way to play an on-line game, in my opinion, but I find many players won't drive a car just just because it doesn't look nice, for example. meh It's their loss.

It's the "SuperMod joined the party" effect

No, the truth (at least that's what I think) is that I have a lot of trouble with traffic in general and punters in particular, driving a car with so low top speed. And, in that race, we all basically raced alone the full three laps.

PS - I knew it was a username that reminded me of drifting ...

it didn't used to be like this with the boost but now we can finally see which cars are truly competitive, its pointless using anything else if you want to actually race anyone.

News to me. Is the boost really gone? I have not played GT since GTA came out, but this is exciting if its true.

Boost seems to be weaker, but is still there. You can't really gain 15 seconds a lap anymore. However, once I was punted off in my tuned viper and managed to catch a tuned Evo X at the front of the field at a rate of 9.5s per lap....I really don't think my car is that fast.

I think the boost is not gone completely, but the horrible effect of slowing the race leaders is gone .👍

no that's definitly still there. I think p1-p3 should get no affects and the rest of the cars get a slight weight advantage...maybe every position after 3rd loses 20kg or something. But the first 3 positions should drive like they're in free run.

Yeah I'll have to support the last 2 posts, leader-slowing is definitely still in effect. I was leading all 3 laps of a race last night and the fastest time was the first lap from a standing start. All 3 laps were clean and I actually think my precision and lines were better as the race went on with less disturbance and pressure from other cars, yet every lap was progressively slower. It also definitely 'felt' to be sluggish on the straight and the grip in some corners was noticeably gone.

Despite this, the gap to second place was like 5 secs end of 1st lap, 7 2nd and 9 seconds by the 2nd split on lap 3. Maybe that's why I actually noticed the effects so distinctly this time, because despite the slowing I was still moving away...so maybe the effects were accelerated..?

Makes you wonder how people say that they got progressively quicker as the race went on... I know for a fact that leader-slowing is in place, it goes on a lap-by lap basis. Lead for one lap, slowed, lead for two laps, slowed even more, lead for three laps... well you're the winner then aren't you? But your 1st, 2nd and 3rd laps are progressively slower, unless you're right on the limit and then if you're lucky, you'll only match, not better your previous laps. Who was it that said they did a 2'20, a 2'18 and then a 2'16?

For the life of me I can't remember who....

I've definitely run consecutively faster laps at Suzi... here's an example...

My 3 laps were 2'18.4xx, 2'17.2xx, 2'16.1xx (overall 6.51.859) whilst leading the entire race - I'm pretty sure anglex has done something similar with even faster lap times (a 6'49.xxx).

My race was me in an R8, with Tameturtle (NSX) and sp33dfr33k1974 (can't remember what he was driving). The gap between TT and me was about 3 seconds at T1 split first lap (R8 speed off the line and speed thorugh the esses got me a nice lead) and then settled at around 2.0 - 2.5 seconds seconds for the rest of the race (TT ran a 6'53.681 in 2nd).

Sp33dfr33k1974 was a minimum of 9 seconds behind me as his race time hadn't come up and the couter was down to 19 seconds when I took the photo below (IIRC, the counter starts at 28 seconds).



Slowing down of the lead car is not apparent in a small field.

With more typical 12 car grids, there is defintely slowing of the lead car, but how much appears to depend on how many and how far back the cars behind you are... ie;

1) lots of car not a long way behind, not much slowing
2) lots of cars a long way behind, lots of slowing
3) lots of cars in the race, but only 1 or 2 a long way behind, not much slowing
