Hello guys, im playing gt since 6 months i love this game, i got aspec 31.

Now i have a question,

Where the hell is engine brake?
I mean for example, when you in 4. gear, you in redline like 8000 rpm, pressing X and shifting down to 2, the engine is not braking it just slowing down like its in neutral position, BUT IT SHOULD be!, if this is a real driving simulator, it must be in game!, even forza has it!

2. question, why all car's shifting speed is like F1 transmission, its too unnatural and unrealistic, in real life theres a lag btw gears, (clutch lag), the game looks like there is no clutch.

I didnt updated to spec2.0, maybe its fixed, but if not, this game is not driving simulator.

Sorry for my bad english.

Just because it doesn't have this little thing, doesn't make it not a racing simulator...

That's like saying iRacing is not a racing simulator because it doesn't have Brake wear.

It also needs to be fun and playable for all ages, i am just starting with manual and i shift down to early, do i really have to be punished for that, including the fact i need to restart for every time i go off (including going off in the last corner)

I really hope the name real driving simulator gets dropped, engines still are F1, and flashbacks are coming.

Shifting speed is by far not too fast. If you dont upgrade the transmission and drive train you will notice a lag when shifting.

Same with engine break. If i dont shift down while braking i need a longer way to reach the speed for the turn. Only thing Forza does better is, that the engine gets damaged if you shift from 4 to 2 at high speeds which is a great thing!

So i have to say i noticed all of the stuff you are missing...

me too

I dont know if you use car in real life, or played forza, but the things that i mentioned is not acceptable for simulator.

Thers no need to defend the game like fanboys, i will wait for an update that fix them.

Its not too hard, just do the engine brake that brakes front tires(or rear watever), and clutch lag that we feel the clutch...

Well i drive enough in real life :D
Maybe its not 100% realistic.. but they added the effects and i think they did a good job. It has nothing to do with fanboy...

If you dont notice the shifting lag in one of the old cars for example there must be something wrong, then i cant help you ;)

Oh.. i have fm4 and gt5.. and i said i like forza.. hmm.. :D

I'm going to agree with Tourist here. When I'm playing GT5, if I downshift properly going into corners, I can brake later. If I don't downshift, I often overshoot the corner because I don't get slowed down enough.

Maybe the noise isn't spot on (no spitting, burbling, etc), but I definitely think that engine braking happens in this game.

If you do that in real life(shifting down from 4. gear, 8000 rpm to 2. gear), im sure you can fly out from front windows(its that powerful), thats how the engine brake effects.

:dopey: Good luck doing this mate...

Its hard to simulate without G-Force...;) Same with normal braking. If you slam the breaks in a racing car, hell thas some force! but you wont notice this in a game.. You just see the speed dropping fast and the nose pointing down..

The game doesnt brakes when quickly shifting down, thats what i want to explain to you you got it? there must be a powerful brake that slows down the car(EVEN DOES LOSING CONTROL), dont drag this conversation to somewhere else.

Well.. i never shifted down without breaking on a straight.. soo i dont know. (why should i do this?!)
But if you are in third and you are too fast for the turn and then shift to second you are slowing down fast without breaking..

Looks like he stayed on the clutch :D

Yeah.. i see what you are talking about. But doing so is stupid anyway. So maybe they thought why change this :D
Its definitely not the same if you do it while breaking for a turn.

Strange. Just like some other stuff in gt5 :D

OK get in your "real car" run it up to 80 or 90mph, press the clutch, put it in 2nd, release the clutch and see what happens. You'll slow down, but you will strip the gears out inside your transmission.

Problem is that it's aimed to the general gaming public so they need to make it more accesible and playable for a greater demographic than the likes of GTR and RFactor.

When I turned the a/c on in my GT-R cold air didn't blow out of my TV speakers.

I certainly notice engine brake when shifting down.
As mentioned try stepping in clutch and see what happens when it is truly in neutral.

As for gear change lag, it is definitely there too. In fact that's what double clutch is trying to address. To truly have delay, use the h shifter.
Granted the gear change lag for automatic is a lot less than most automatic cars in real life

1. The game's auto-clutch pushes the clutch down for you to avoid damage. If you have a G27 or a wheel with a full H-shifter pattern then auto-clutch is automatically turned off.

2. Shifting lag up to about 3rd gear is true to life but I have to agree after that it's pretty unrealistic shifting. PD put this shifting in to make up for the "shifting cheat" that G25/27 users are capable of. If you have a clutch then you can powershift the gears which changes them in just under a second.

And for DFGT/DFP/DS3 users who don't have a clutch, we can't change gears that quickly until we get the car up to speed. But I can tell you that having a fully customizable race transmission will shift gears quicker than the standard transmission for example. Keeping the standard transmission can also stop the car sounding like a vacuum cleaner 👍 .

To sum all that up, shifting lag is quick to make up for G27/25 users who can shift gears as quickly, or as slowly as they like, and engine braking is almost non-exsistant due to auto-clutch.

Engine braking is there, I use it all the time.
Shifting lag is there too, it doesn't happen on a pad because on DS3/sixaxis every car's transmission becomes sequential with automatic clutch, that's why there's almost no lag and you can't engine brake. If you use a wheel with H shifter and clutch then that's a whole different story.
Worst shifting lag (and I mean literally that, not the throttle delay but real gear engaging lag) I've experienced so far was in Dome Zero, while doing Japanese 70ies seasonal using clutch & H shifter.

To sum it up - both engine braking and shifting lag is there, present in the game mechanics, you just need the wheel to experience them.

Dude, there is no engine brake.

Again and again, go to 1:40...

What do you mean there isn't engine braking? There is engine braking but you only experience it if you use a wheel with a clutch and H-shifter. If you use a wheel with sequential or ds3 then the car has sequential transmission with automatic clutch, so as a result you can't engine brake.

+1 👍 .
