where are all the purists?

In the recent months I've been on GT5, I have noticed that no one feels adventurous any more. All I see in the online lobbies is the same old BS cars that always win races...

NSX type R
BMW M3, M5 etc.
GTR's
Italia's
LFA's
and R8's

The purists seem to be dying out and the game is overpopulating with n00bs that drive the above listed cars. there are over 1000 cars in GT5 and 90% of the online population is using only the overpowered/easy to tune cars which only makes up about 30 total cars.
Why don't people venture out a little and use something like a CTR yellow bird or a lotus Espirt? Any purists still out there please make yourself known.

Well I'm in the process of tuning all my cars, all 1000+ cars and I've created some bonkers cars. Highlights include my Factory fresh yellowbird on comfort hards, my 600hp Front drive SRT-4 but each car I tune different including the copycat cars ( Example: my turbo Built FTO and an N/A built FTO) it's probably crazy to go as far as I have in terms of making each car different in someway, but I'm ready to do it all again on GT6 :)
 
With you on this one: I cant stand when i join a room full of LFAs, NSXs or Elises.... Although lately I havn't been racing open lobbies anyways due to the hack issues, so its not a problem with good mates. :D
 
Please provide your definition of purist and how it could possibly mean somebody who purposely uses slower cars? I don't understand the correlation.

Also, please explain why somebody is a noob just because they enjoy different aspects of the game than you do?
 
I drive my RUF BTR just about... every day. No assists. Just the way I like it.

I think he means that nobody uses the cars they would normally enjoy racing in. Some people just choose to use the cars that are easy to win with.
 
There are indeed allot of cars that are lots of fun but just stay in the shadow. I suppose i am a bit of a semi purist. As for sportscars i mainly drive the ZR1, S7 and V12 Vantage. I haven't really seen many people use them.
Racecars i like the Oreca Viper (oh how nice it sounds compared to the previous games), Esperante, C6R's (both). haven't seen many of those either (yet).
Also with those cars i try to not use softs, i drive meds or hards. Just becourse i am a bit anal lol.
 
I usually race in a room (private lounge or open room) hosted by my lady friend & she always mixes up the cars, whether by PP or car model. I prefer to race ALL my cars & on all the tracks, custom especially. Why bother collecting cars if you don't use them ?
 
you should join my casual raceday lobby, mostly on sundays.
were doing shuffle or one make races
Although the outcry is loud when someone gets the yellowbird :D

Check out the league in my signature, we race all the odd stuff as well as the common cars, last season we raced in the yellow bird, our next race this season is the "alfa guillia 1600 gta '74" VS Toyota Celica 1600 GT (TA22) '70 VS Mitsibushi Lancer 1600 GSR '74.... having said all that were actually full to the brim but still add me and come casual race with us if you like.
 
I'm here! I prefer to loose a race than having to race in an overused and over tuned car.
 
LVracerGT and myself always run stock supercars and lightly tuned street cars around the ring in free ride mode just for fun. It's always a blast. We often put them on worse tires to make it interesting.

I drive my Ferrari F430 tuned to 550 pp, it's by no means uncommon in lobbies. But I barely see anyone else driving it. Its a good drive too, I recommend it highly for use!

Oh man you got him! He almost got away with it too! Now that that's settled....

OP: I don't race much online but I always cruise the ring in all sorts of different cars. I see what you mean though. It's occasional at best I get someone to cruise with me on something other then racing soft. But every once in a while you run into some good people.

I can answer that for you Purist is used in the term as people who are willing to drive all sorts of different cars to enjoy/despise the cars themselves regardless of either they win or lose just for fun is the thing.

And Noob is used to describe the sadacts who just tune the ass off a car to make it go faster than anyone elses and always drive the same car instead of changing for a different one and the only time they will change is if there getting whooped on the track and then there back to square one fastest thing available and stick with it in a nutshell Boring people. :)
 
When the PP is set to 500, I usually use the Toyota 86 GT because it is fast and because it is fun to drive. Am I a n00b or a purist?

But it's funny to read this thread right now, I have been thinking of thinning out my garage by deleting all cars I have not driven in over 1 year. On second thought, to avoid being rash, maybe I should start by deleting anything not driven in over 2 years and go from there. I just hate having to scroll through my garage for 20 seconds just to find those cars that qualify for the current race/room settings. I can't count how many race starts I've missed because of the long list of garage cars, plus the slow menus.
 
There's several Clubs and Leagues that are Tuning Prohibited. Join them if you want to run stock cars. Snail, Turtle etc... I gather you don't use any driving aids either if you consider yourself a "purist".

I turn off traction control skid control all that interfering stuff if it is possible to turn it off and that annoying racing line which shows braking zones where you don't need them and vice-versa, Abs is useless on gt I presume everyone turns that off. I drive in manual gears and have crashed out many many many times but it is more fun than a few of my mates do with everything turned on slowing the car down and being boring.
If you want to win races and golds use the aids if you want to have fun and don't care about winning turn it all off go do a few laps it is fun and so much easier to corner dabbing the handbrake and opposite locking.:)
 
Just because someone likes to drive a car that may be "easier to win with" means they aren't purists? Have you thought they might like something about the car other than its speed? I love the 458's styling and the sound. I guess that makes me a noob. Some people don't like certain cars you may like or prefer to drive but that doesn't make them bad. Call them noobs when they can't keep a car on the track in multiple consecutive corners or crash into people multiple times.

No he said, and it was clarified a second time, that people who only drive those cars to win rather than for the sake of driving or having fun with winning as a bonus. I don't mean to speak for the OP here but I think he'd agree with me in saying these people are playing GT to win races. No passion for the cars, racing lines, engine noises, plumes of smoke, and all that good stuff. They're just there to crush as many people possible. And the whole point of the topic, who else enjoys these things, not the definition of purist.

I'd vaguely be considered a purist... because while I am willing to drive anything, I tend to stick with a select few cars and use those for most events. Those select few cars aren't anything you'd normally see, though.

I'd like it if I could drive certain cars competitively without being derided for picking those select cars (Honda 1300 Coupe 9, Renault Megane IDE Coupe, Amuse S2000 GT1 '04... to name a few.) I'm not here to be hyper-competitive, I just like the drive.

There may very well be noobs who are purists. And a purist out there who is a noob.
If you mean that noobs are generally not purists, then this is also more likely.

This is a good first step in finding like-minded racers. To me - the core benefit of being a member of GTPlanet is the opportunity to find lobbies and people that meet your needs. There are, I believe, many clubs and leagues that could provide the type of racing you are looking for.
 
I'm a purist. I actually hate driving popular cars, makes me feel ignorant and unapreciative of cars in the game though I have a list of favourites

Per Webster: A person who adheres strictly and often excessively to a tradition.

Wouldn't that make a purist a better defitnition for somebody who only drives the best of the best? Sticking purely to cars that go like hell and handle great?

I would call somebody who purposely drives weird stuff more of a hipster....

Fine with me. What I'm trying to get at is the op has a question. How about we try and answer it instead of picking apart his choice in words?
