where are all the purists?

Online play has always been populated by a large number of racers who use the best cars. Many of these players aren't true car enthusiasts who identify with a particular brand or make, they just want to win by using an overpowered car. This is why lobby rooms are always filled with the usual cars at 500pp etc. Alot of purists probably just moved on to not deal with detuned LFA at 500pp, standard M3, type R Nsx, Evora, Ruf rgt etc.

I do enjoy using different cars to others out there on the track, but I do tend to use my beloved BRZ a lot in the lower 500 PP races, just because I love they way it looks and drives (AMG Matt Grey paint with white Rotor grid wheels :D ).

I'm a purist in the sense when I use a NSX Type-R , it is in Championship white, just like Dori Dori's own NSX is :D, also it is a really lovely car to drive, but I get what the OP is getting at. It does seem that people are now lacking imagination when choosing cars and don't try out different cars and tunes for lack of patience or a race is only worth doing if your going to be able to win and with at least effort as possible.

I guess once a game has gotten as old as GT5 is now, people tend to stick to what they have seen winning all the time.

I choose cars like the Cobra, C5 Z06, 599. I don't even try to win, I even try to qualify in the back of the pack so I'm not involved in the first turn mayhem. Most I'll do is suspension and tyres and no drivetrain upgrades. What about the tracks? If you see a Spa room, it's empty. Motegi empty. Those tracks are wide where as everyone always goes to the narrow Nurburgring and leaves once they get bumped off track.

I'm glad a thread like come up well I agree and noob can drive a m3 csl or all the other easy to drive no brainer cars that a to stupid quick the best one is people that open a room with 2 laps and use a lotus 111r fast tyre wear 2 lap pathetic what the point.
I myself like to use the following cars for nurburgring 24h 500PP sport soft tyres.
Nissan 350 EU 901.8 standstill lap no draft
Mazda sprite R rx7 859.4 Standstill lap no draft
Shelby supercharged 902.2 standstill lap no draft
Lambo muira 901.9 standstill lap no draft
Nissan skyline gtr r32 my favourite 904.1 standstill lap no draft
Mazda rx8 859.2 standstill lap no draft
subaru wrx 07 905.2 standstill lap no draft
Honda s2000 905.7 standstill lap no draft
Just to name a few all on normal tyre wear beat that you noobs on pad only assist abs on 1.

Just to give my input, I usually have 1 or 2 of the assists on, then I did the classic car championship in the jaguar XJ13 with all assists off (though still using automatic transmission) and I can safely say I won't be turning them on again anytime soon. One of the funnest races I've done.

Oh dear, I must be a noob always running round in my HSC/Audi R8 in online lobbies :( Although I only join them when I'm very bored
I turn off traction control skid control all that interfering stuff if it is possible to turn it off and that annoying racing line which shows braking zones where you don't need them and vice-versa, Abs is useless on gt I presume everyone turns that off. I drive in manual gears and have crashed out many many many times but it is more fun than a few of my mates do with everything turned on slowing the car down and being boring.
If you want to win races and golds use the aids if you want to have fun and don't care about winning turn it all off go do a few laps it is fun and so much easier to corner dabbing the handbrake and opposite locking.:)

Hmm, ABS is useless and dabbing the handbrake makes cornering easier? Interesting. :dopey:

If a purist means running stock cars with no assists then that's what I like to do. If it's a normal street car I only equip it with comfort tires and minimal tuning additions. Doesn't make any sense to put racing softs on a stock Civic.

If people like to soup up their cars they can do what they wish, that's part of the game. I don't think they're doing anything wrong, it's just what they enjoy.

To me, this is what's great about this game, the flexibility to tune cars however you like. The trick is finding others that have the same interests and approach as you.

I don't think Purist is the word the OP was looking for but I get the idea.

I always drive McLaren. In all games. I don't care if I lose, or if it's not the best. F1 is my first choice. I will use the MP4-12C if the F1 isn't allowed.

I can't wait to add the P1 into the mix.

Random online lobbies have been and probably always will be, populated by the most popular cars on RS tires. It has a lot of attraction for casual players. Tires are consistent from lobby to lobby meaning you need tune your car only one way. Driving is much easier on RS tires. It's easier to be competitive in cars that are competitive out of the box.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Most guys in random lobbies just want to go online and drive fast, not tweak the last tenth out of a car that is at best 2 seconds off the pace. If that's your deal or if you're just looking for something different you have a few options:

1. Start and host your own lobby, build a reputation.
2. Be much more selective in searching for lobbies, find hosts that do what you like to do, FR them, and search them out when you come online.
3. Find a league that does the type of racing you like. There are many right here on GTP in organized race series and ongoing clubs and leagues that meet on a regular basis.

I dont call them Noobs, I call them people who like to go online and have a quick race, I do it if I get chance to jump in a online lobby for a bit and its fun.

I must be a noob

You are :sly::lol:

^^^👍
Its easier for casual players or players that just want to have a few quick races to jump into something they like and are use to and want to be competative, the great thing of GT5 is all the different options available.

This is great advice to find people with like minded racing in mind, nothing purist just like minded people who enjoy the same sort of races.

Let's not argue about the terminology here, OP conveyed their meaning well enough for us to understand.
Also, of course it's good to use different cars and to think of unusual tunes, but let's not try and reinvent the wheel here - by all means you CAN tune a Fiat 500 to become a track monster, but is it really worth it?

The pure racers and purists gave up on this game.

Have you tried turning the abs off and dabbing the handbrake in a corner?
I suggest you give it a go it is great fun and on some races I won as when the AI cars are slowing down to turn I dab the handbrake around I go opposite lock then accelerate hard leave the AI behind.
It's all about the enjoyment you want from the game.
Oh and yes abs useless on gt if you adjust your brake balance correct you don't need abs ever.

I prefer to go as quick as possible, and you will probably be going a lot slower driving with ABS off and using the handbrake. :)

Did he say that "someone likes to drive a car that may be "easier to win with" means they aren't purists? No he said, and it was clarified a second time, that people who only drive those cars to win rather than for the sake of driving or having fun with winning as a bonus. I don't mean to speak for the OP here but I think he'd agree with me in saying these people are playing GT to win races. No passion for the cars, racing lines, engine noises, plumes of smoke, and all that good stuff. They're just there to crush as many people possible. And the whole point of the topic, who else enjoys these things, not the definition of purist.

yes. My original wording may have been confusing, but what you have said is my bottom line.

There you go that's the difference you say you want to go as quick as possible which is your choice good luck with your efforts, I want to enjoy it more than only coming first is the only option, on a lot of races I don't worry about winning just having fun and my way of driving is fun, also when I drove like this for a while I did win a few races.

I think we will agree to disagree on the use of abs. all abs does is stop the wheels from locking allowing turning under braking easier, Using abs on a straight which is where I always brake never in the bend only extends the time it takes the car to slow down due to the on off system the brakes do under abs . If you brake in the straight with abs off you slow quicker don't use brakes in bends and half press the gas button through some bends full throttle through some and it's easy. I dab the handbrake when I have braked a bit to late and am close to over running the apex with a tad of steering lock this slides the car not in a big power slide way just a tad to set the car in the right direction accelerate out of the bend and I am quicker than using abs or trying to brake late on the straight and continuing braking in a bend with abs on. It's what the handbrake button is for why else would it be there? you don't press it to park up do you. Maybe my love of driving the formula 1 cars in F1 games has learned me this braking way minus the handbrake of course.

On fun with gt5 today a friend and I were playing give the ai cars half a lap start then turn around and go the wrong way around the track and see if you can clear ten laps without smashing in to oncoming ai cars. harder than it sounds unless you hide off the track the ai cars are awesome at missing you swerving at silly speeds but there is always one who comes around a corner when you are going around the corner, and no we don't look at the track map in the top left corner that's boring. It's all about fun and your own choice of how you do it.:) Have a go on one of the endurance races see how many laps you can do the wrong way before you get smashed.

Ben just got a driving lesson?

Ok, finally got some time to reply, the bit I've highlighted would be a fair enough answer to why you use ABS off and the handbrake.

However, you then follow with a large paragraph as to why you think your driving style is faster, which would seem irrelevant if you honestly didn't care about going quickly, ignoring the fact that you're wrong anyway. Using ABS1 and keeping your thumb as far away from the handbrake button as possible, is the fastest driving style in the game with very few exceptions. There is proof of it everywhere, just look at the top times in online TTs, and virtually any online race, they will all be using ABS1 and none will be using the handbrake.

As for ABS off slowing you down faster in a straight line, I think, although I haven't bothered testing, that that is also wrong, with ABS1 you can just slam on the brakes and ease them off as you get into the corner. With ABS off you have two options, lower the brake balance and get pretty close to full brakes, or don't go anywhere near full brakes, both of which will increase the time it takes you to slow down.

You stupid noob. It's people like you who ruin the game. Learn to drive properly before joining any lobbies in future 👎.

Apparently

What works for one might not work for another. I love the way I drive and you like it your way so no probs enjoy the game.

I haven't been online for a while, but i never worry about winning races. I usually wait until most of the room is on the track to see what cars they use, then i try find something different, and sometimes odd, to use (odd as in a 2% chance of winning the race).

Like the time i raced around Monza in my C63 AMG Merc (normally used for drifting).

Was up against all sorts, including race cars. One cheater/poor driver in a Castrol Mugen NSX (?) was always barging his way into the front/ramming others off the track etc. I kept racing as clean as possible, not cutting the first few corners like so many try to and do, and even though i got pushed off the track a couple of times i somehow ended up in the lead (thankfully the Merc was faster down the straights than the JGTC NSX), until cheater either tried to outbrake me or ram me on the last corner of the last lap, but he did get past only to go wide and start drifting into the sand trap, where i gleefully passed him yet again only to be pipped at the line by a very fast Enzo which caught up on the final straight.

Probably one of my fave online races purely because the cheating driver couldn't drive to save himself. :D

But i consider myself a purist. I've tried numerous times starting up rooms where people are encouraged to hit the track with infrequently used/seen cars. Never had much luck with it though, maybe because of the time of day or because people just want to drive the 'best' cars.
