Tabs' thread got me thinking.

If you had a time machince, and could use it once, and not use it to return to the present, where and to which era would you go and what would you do?

Personally I would goto June 1943, to enlist (and train) as a bomber pilot for the 8th or 15th Airforce. That would be my contribution to the WWII conflict.

I wouldn't want to go to any other era really.

I would go 100K years into the future. I'm thinking sometimes if humanity will be able to stop conflicts and war.. a thousand years is too little but in a hundred thousand years something should have happened if it is possible to change human nature.

I would go 1 day into the future, because I wouldn't be able to survive heap's far into the future r back in time my self.

Fair question - and given your conditions, I wouldn't go anywhere. Stupid job aside (and I'm working on that), I don't want to leave my current situation and not come back. I love my partner, my house, and our 5 year plan is progressing very well - nah, I'd pass it on to someone else.

i also would like to go back to WWII days and add my bit for the allies, but actually i would rather stay where i am

i dont like the one way idea. but i would like to go a couple k into the future and bring back some plans or things from the future. hehe

I would probably go back in time to stop someone dying in my family or to prevent something bad happenning or to stop someone getting really ill or something like that

edit

I wouldnt like the idea of WW2 time - a lot of people died and there was a war on, given the choice I wouldnt want to live at the time of a world war !!

That's a good one.

And then you'll be rich enough to buy yourself a two-way time machine. :)

but your stuck there, no thanx, i like the sound of WWII much better

yeah but wouldnt that be similar to the butterfly effect?

i personally would travel to somewhere in the future, where you could live in peace without somebody always nagging.

im not sure about the whole time of the dinosaurs era because starting from scratch and living there doesnt exactly sound too appealing

traveling back and taking down the lotto numbers sounds good.....but you only get half of the money because somebody else has those numbers too:p :irked: .......but still................half is better than none:D

the butterfly effect was a recent movie with ashton kutcher in where he would travel back into time to help somebody he loved but only make things worse and this kept going on and on..........(you get the picture)

i would only think going back to the dinosaur era would be a good idea if i could bring all my stuff from my current life(e.g. house, GT3, lakers, etc...) :D

ahh right - I havent heard of the film so forgive my ignorance !!!

And yeah the dinosaur thing, Id only go there if I could still keep some of the stuff Id need to live !!

And another thing - if we went too far back then the internet wouldn't have been created yet !! So no GTP !! so....... I wouldnt want to go to the dinosaur era after all !!

Vat Man...i am intrigued by your 5 year plan....

Nothing particularly clever - we basically want to leave our jobs get out of Sydney, and move to Queensland's Sunshine Coast and take things a bit easier. We came up with a plan that should hopefully set us up to get there comfortably financially, so we can get by on about half the money we earn here, whilst maintaining income after mortgages.

Feels good to have a plan, and to be working towards a goal.

Or better yet, do what Biff did in Back to the Future II :)

That'd be pretty wild - there'd be two of you for a day. Hope the right one goes into the time machine the day after, or it could get really weird.

I'd go back to the day of my conception and scare the hell out of my parents by telling them things that they wouldn't expect a strange 18 year old kid to know about them. Birthdates, social security numbers, full names. I'd show them pictures of us together in the future.

Maybe I'd scare them so much that I would never be conceived.

It's (wrongly) named after a basic theory in quantum mechanics, that states that even the smallest change can have vast, far-reaching effects - "If a butterfly flaps it's wings in China, the course of a hurricane in the Atlantic is changed" (sort of).

The more common theory applied to Time Travel is the "Grandfather Paradox" - essentially that, if you were to go back in time and kill your grandfather (accidentally of course - not everyone who goes back in time gets a compulsion to bump off relatives) before your father was conceived, you would cease to exist. Of course, then you would have never existed to be able to kill your grandfather, so he would be alive and you would exist. But then you would exist to go back and kill your grandfather, so you would cease to exist - hence the paradox...

I would go back to medieval times. Mmmm, pillage...

Rome at the time of Ceasars riegn and warn him of of his assasination and tell him of the new world. that way when rome conqures all, i might have some ruling power, yesss.......
