Which car you choose to run the 24 Hours of Nurburgring?

I haven't done it yet but I plan to do it soon with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. I plan to leave it stock as well. I was going to use the Mazda 787b but I already used that for the LeMans so I wanted to use something different. :)

Audi R8 Race Car '01.
Tuned but no upgrades.
Racing Hard, Racing Medium, Racing Soft, Racing Intermediate, and Racing Rain.

PEUGEOT 905 Race Car ('92) with stock HP.

Dry weather I shifted late and used RS tires.
Wet weather I shifted early and used RI tires during +30% track saturation.
Very easy but fun win for me.

This was before the change in tire wear.

I used x2010... half power, +200kg. In a normal car I would probably lose because of tire wear. and detuned redbull is quite controlable with my poor skill :D

edit: I did it before changes in tire wear

There are many threads on this that may provide plenty of ideas. If you want to find them, searching would be helpful.

The DLC R35 TC was a good car for me. Stable, fast, and could keep up with the LMPs on the straight. It might be better on tires with the new model.

Peugeot 908 HDi... Best LMP in my opinion. Fully stock with RS tires.

Mazda 787b would be my choice for Group C's. It behaves better than the others and it's more gentle with the tires. Stock, as well.

Haven't raced it yet, but I'm planning on using the Mazda 787b. Although if I get my hands on the Sauber beforehand...

I did it in an X2010 in October before the in game saves was available got tired of waiting for months and months so that why I use it

The AI has been improved. It's not such an easy race.
I'm at 13hrs...using the FGT...barely a 3 lap lead.

If you use the FGT you MUST have the driving line turned ON.

Question: What time is it that the race starts?

I agree I use the racing line too so I don't misjudge my ability to take a turn too fast or too wide I know the advance players don't use any assists what so ever but yeah I would stay it start at 5 or 6pm cause from my experience it rained for 10 straight hours and then by the 13 to 14 hours the sun came after that it dry and sunny the hardest part was Driving in the Rain while it was getting dark

R35 TC. No mods, RH tires, pit every 4 laps, no lines. Finished with 1 lap lead. Interior view throughout made the race enjoyable & epic.

Is that the slowest car anyone has used, the R35 TC? I want to get this race complete, but it'll be no fun for me doing it in a LeMans style car. I'd rather do it in something much slower.

This is one of the reasons why I wish the game would match the AI to whatever car you enter the race with.

I'm also trying to find a good car for this. Did try the 908 but after 8 laps I was leading by almost 3 minutes on RH's. Then I tried the Citroen GT race car , this car is very difficult to drive from interior view so scrapped that.

Now I'm testing Camaro SS '10 RM :dopey:. Can't match the LMP's but after 3 laps I was leading because the AI just goes on third lap even their rear tires are gone. I had RH's and they were almost gone when I pitted, you just have to push the car to i's limits all the time. Had nice 40 second lead after pit stop and at the end of lap 4 they were gaining fast on me, so this might be interesting. Have to test more laps and see how it goes.

I think this is the most fun, and easiest to manage tires, fuel, etc. while being competitive. I added a turbo. I gained about a minute an hour in the dry (pre-tire wear reconfiguration). With the tire degradation, I imagine it's less. The wet is where this car makes its hay. I was gaining a lap an hour in the pouring rain... which I had 14 hours of. The LMPs run away by 1000 feet (unless you catch the draft on Dottinger) on the straights, top speed is around 220.
If you get a dry track and actually manage the car's tires (I'm sure you would just fine, Jason) and you probably will have a close race. If you need some breathing room or are behind, pray for rain.

I belive it's before the change. how many laps around ring on rs tires it can do now? 1? 2?

It will handle more than that if you're easy with the throttle. If it's stock, it woun't eat up the tires that quickly.

I used the Chaparral 2D, racing soft or mediums. Won, Totally unmodified too. :)

My Motul Autech GTR was still too quick. I'll try a GT300 car next time:scared:

I was thinking along the lines of an RM car. I'd like to use maybe the IS-F RM or similar. Might give it a shot.

...hmm, when does the sun come up over there? I'm at hour 13, it's pitch black and raining.

If you use the FGT, like I did, without the driving line you'd be alone in the woods at night. No headlights... :)

Lol I know I try that online for fun but doing a real race against the A.I. no way lol and yeah it was 13 or 14 hours for me but the weather happen randomly cause I started the race in the rain some people start when it dry

i would run

I'd assume that didn't end well? :P
Fortunately the race has a weak field. The McLaren F1 is the 2nd place car. With the FGT you just have to slow WAY down at night when you're in the areas of no artificial light (of which there are plenty) and follow the driving line ('cuz that's all you can see).

I'm at hour 15 now. The first HINT of daylight started at 13.5 hrs.

I only chose the FGT because I was unsuccessful with the 787B. With the 787B I was around 5 hours and over a lap lead when the Audi Race Car '01 lit itself on fire. It had been running in 3rd place and in very short order it came whizzing by me and no matter what I did I couldn't catch it.
