Which magazine should I get: Road & Track or Motor Trend?

It's a small nit, mind you... and while they cover more mundane stuff... they don't cover mundane mundane stuff... just cheap stuff that is exciting. (when's the last time they covered a non-sport Yaris? :lol: )... but yeah, it's not a reasonable plaint to level against a performance magazine.

Strangely... I actually have two or three issues of Auto Italia... and I agree... they do a very good job for being a specialist magazine. Love the coverage of classic cars and even more "common" Italians. Honest work, and some good writing. 👍

^ How do I know? I have their issue back in 1991 with the R32 GT-R on their cover; and my friend has an May 2009 issue at his place (I might take a photo of it when I get a chance). :sly:
 
Looking on Wikipedia, the publication company that owns Car and Driver also has a Hong Kong subsidiary (as well as a few other locations). Perhaps they do offer issues with vehicles for other countries, but overall Car and Driver is an American publication.
 
I get Autoweek as it is probably the magazine that has the freshest news...you get two issues per month. In most other magazines the information you're reading has already been published on the web or in a more frequently delivered mag.
 
Road and Track is a fantastic magazine! Unlike Motor Trend and other magazines, every R&T issue is all about sports and exotic cars. While other magazines have sports/exotic car comparison/shootout articles a couple of times a year, R&T has them every issue! I'm very happy with my subscription, and at $7 a year, there is no better value! -kevin

BTW I also sub Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car and Autoweek. ;)

Many magazines have foreign subsidiaries that publish local content. Not being able to read Chinese, I've never seen C&D Hong Kong (and I don't know if it's in Chinese or English). There's an Auto Motor Und Sport in Chinese, too, mind you... :lol:

Autocar has a Singapore subsidiary. The local content is sometimes pretty good. Sometimes just okay, sometimes great. But it's a great magazine, or was when they still sold it here. Now we only get Autocar UK.

EVO has a number of foreign language subsidiaries, and some (or most) generate their own content and handpick parts out of the main EVO. Ours (EVO Philippines) was great (sometimes good local content, sometimes great, sometimes merely okay), and it was printed on thicker book stock than the paper-thin... errh... paper that EVO UK uses.

They had some exclusives that they got before any other print mag... the Venturi Fetish... the Apollo Gumpert... some others... but the limited local market made it impractical, I guess, to go out to Monaco every year to get these exclusives.

Oh well... RIP, EVO-Ph... :(
 
I'm very lucky to live near one of the biggest newsagents in Australia, if not the southern hemisphere. With this comes a lot of niche magazines and I don't see anywhere else.

There are a few weird ones - one, which I forget the title of (wasn't catchy) specialised in budget sports cars. It was like "Realistic Sportscars for a budget" or something like that. I wouldn't say that they are good overall, but some of these magazines have the potential to let off an absolute ripper once in a while. Classic Cars does the same I think.
 
Some of the classic car magazines are excellent for that sort of thing, especially since cars built in the eighties are now edging their way into classic status and therefore getting more coverage. That means we start getting tests again on things like the first wave of hot hatches, or fantastic budget classics like E30 BMWs and Merc 190s. All cars you can pick up, in the UK at least, for significantly less than £1000.
 
I actually suggest Autoweek. Comes twice a month, keeps a bit more current, entertaining writing...

But wait, there's more...

Incidentally, are they the same Autoweek who also have a TV program of which there are hundreds of videos on Youtube? If so, I quite enjoy their reviews. They aren't particularly entertaining, but they're good, honest reviews.
 
I think that's Motorweek you're thinking of, they're on public television. Although AW may actually have a YT channel, I dunno.
 
Incidentally, Autoweek does make videos and presumably video reviews, but it is one of those iTunes-only things. So yeah, probably MotorWeek.
