Interestingly, Ford actually considered making the Mondeo RWD too. The platform was designed with it in mind - which is why they had no trouble making an AWD version of the Mk1 Mondeo.

Even after it was decided the road car would be FWD, Ford actually trialed a RWD setup on the Mondeo BTCC car. I seem to remember they abandoned it though when their FWD test cars were getting better lap times!

I've thought about bringing back Duesenberg. It would be the American Competitor to the Rolls Royce Phantom and Maybach. I'm not sure what platform it would be on, probably a custom one. But it would have a GM sourced LS9, just not as loud.

Maybe in time, Doozy could release a sports car or even a supercar.
 
a Duze doesn't need a replacement engine. they sport a huge 275 horse twincam straight-eight allready (SJ's). it just needs converted to run on unleaded :P

Heh...well, that, and the block shortened, stroke shortened and cylinder bored out...the damn things were long-stroke supreme. The later DOHC models were an entire inch longer stroke than bore. The earlier SOHC? 2 7/8" x 5".

Make it nice and undersquare, add fuel injection, electronic ignition and the like. I'll bet you could make 5-600HP with it.

I'm still miffed that someone even gave a THOUGHT to making the De Lorean a re-bodied Corvette.

I think it would have been okay with the later HO engine (it was quite light, and supercharger kits were quite common), but it absolutely needed a transmission other than the awful 4-speed it was saddled with.
