Hi guys

First let me clarify that I asked this question in the hardware forum under a similar thread (because I know that people get: use the search button, have you tried "insert link" and so on), but did not get any response.

So...

I've been reading lots of threads and I have a couple of questions. I am considering of getting me a wheel, to get the full GT5 experience. Now I know that the discussion is about G27/G25/TS500/official GT wheel etc., which is best and so on (I'm on a budget so not the expensive stuff please), but which one makes less noise? I know that the force feedback can get a bit noisy in these wheels and I need one that doesn't make much noise when turning hard into a corner, spinning out and so on. Hope my question makes sense? I play with a headset and like to play when everybody is a sleep, therefore something quite is 👍

Something else, I also need a good seat to fit it on too. Something that maybe can be folded so it doesn't take much space?

It would be nice to hear from someone with experience :)
Thanks!

The G27 is the cheapest wheel that doesn't make much noise, and its nearly silent. If you can't afford a G27 then your screwed for noise levels..

As for cockpits: wood, screws and screwdriver my friend :)

logitech sent out 50% off coupons not long ago to a select few, i managed to pick one up on ebay for $4 and used it to save $150 on a g27 with free shipping. decided to bite the bullet and ordered a play seat. very happy with it all.

Well I would like to thank you regarding the answer for my wheel question. On the other hand, the answer regarding the seat is not a big help :)
I did say "on a budget" not cheap a#% :) Actually the G27 is not that expensive, it is likely that I would go with that one because you say that it is very quiet. Thanks.

I believe that you are playing with the G27 now. What do you say regarding the noise level of the wheel? When you turn hard or try to save a spin? Does it make that "woooouuuu" sound, you hear the force feedback working?!

I have a G27 aswell. It does make that sound, but you have to put your ear to the cover to hear it..

G27 and white playseat is my setup. Found it all on craigslist last year for 400. Logged many happy miles since... Do it...

Its quiet except if your rally racing than its clackin a bit. But dont do that. Normal racing is quiet enough. Smackin the pedals around is louder. Learn to drive with 2 feet. Quietly....

You're going to get more noises coming from the whap of the pedals against the floor as wheel as the clicks of the paddle shifters more than gear noise...

Of course, I would say the best is T500RS. Only thing is that its pricey and it doesnt have shifter. However I heard of rumor that they will release shifter later, since T500RS has third pedal which you cant utilize it for now. That will even more extra $.

Please look at the TH8 RS thread. Some already have the shifter.

I like the G27 so much that I bought another for my computer setup which is used for shift 2. The fanatec wheel stand can fold up but I leave it there all the time and sit in an office chair while playing

For me the g27 is the best value for the money hands down, and plus one for a custom build, that way you can make exactly how you want. There's plenty of resources here for that as well.

I like the second setup that you have, especially because it can fold up. Maybe that's the real setup for me. Don't have so much space to play around with. Is the stand for the wheel stable enough?

This I know so far: the G27 is pretty quiet but pedals can get a bit noisy, i can imagine that when you floor it in frustration :)

Thanks for your response guys.

Wow! That is an amazing offer! Thanks for the find.
Guys do you have any experience regarding the Fanatec wheels, they can also be used for the Xbox360 - and yes I play Forza too!

I don't find the pedals to be too noisy. The stand is solid steel and really sturdy. I haven't had any issues with it, in fact I'm really happy with it and would recommend it to anyone:tup:

I havent used the g27 before, but I just picked up a t500rs and apiga 2 plus. Cost a bit more but is worth every penny! If u plan on using it for GT6 or other racing games in the future why not invest in it?!

The Apiga 2 plus has a solid frame. My only issue is with the shifter position... Will have to sort that out with fitting custom shifter holder.

Oh. well thats a good news. If you have the money, you should go for the wheel. I currently own g27 but not t500rs. However I hear t500rs to be better from people who own both. G27 is sure a great wheel, but IMO t500rs has far better technology than g27. I am sorry that i am not sure about playseat since i just use wheelstandpro with my chair.

I hope you're not talking to me in the respect of getting gear? ;) ghehe
Already own a FFGP, G25, T500 RS and am in waiting of Thomas shipping me a CSW to play with (whenever he's ready to ship it that is).

The wheel (T500 RS vs. G27) has better sensors and a far stronger motor indeed, the pedals are build upon the same old tech... potentiometers (which I keep scratching my head about... the decision to use that instead of magnetic sensors like the CSP's).

Anyhow... it's all up to budget and what someone prefers. Also how tall you are and so on. Can't have a rig that's build for a comparable small asian guy when you're a 2 meter tall european guy for example. Or have a small bucket seat when you're quite on the wide side yourself. Or have a rig that's iffy when it comes to support weight of the gear plus you and the chair.

I still love my T500rs but I do find myself using CSPs with them a lot. It all comes down to what games you play with, budget, etc. If you want to play a lot of different games its Fanatec gt3rs + Clubsports. If its just GT5 I'd go T500rs + TH8 shifter atm

When I get my CSR Elite I look forward to playing GT5 with it and tossing up some real comparisons.

Well actually I am an 2m European guy :) so to find the right seat is important. I think I'll go with the Playseat Champion (or something), simply because it's a great offer at a local store here near by.

Regarding the wheel, think I'm about to decide for the G27. I have seen some YouTube videos and it is a very quiet wheel. Fanatec wheels are compatible with Xbox360, but they are also a bit more expensive, so I guess I'll have to play Forza with the pad.

Thanks for the responses!

I think it is worth the extra money. You can buy a Fanatec GT2/CSR wheel for 250 and standard padals for 50, I believe. Then you are done for 300 euros with having Xbox360 compatibility. :)
Later you can buy the CSP if you want

@Medno84
The Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS wheel is the cheapest option and very silent because it also has belt drive. Starts at 210 with standard pedals.

Did you consider this wheel as well?

Fanatec...

Yes I have considered that wheel that you mention, but as far as I can see it is only compatible with PS3 and doesn't support Xbox360?!
That brings me back to the Logitech because I'm really convinced that this whell is very silent when in use. I don't know about the Fanatec GT3, haven't YouTube'd it yet. It is though cheaper than the Logitech.

The Fanatec GT2 & CSR wheels are xbox compat. Not to mention the clubsports are beyond awesome. you'd be hard pressed to find someone that would choose a g27 pedal over clubsports.

I'm in the same boat (no xbox compat). You'll end up just like the rest of us and would just rather not play the game at all once you get used to a wheel.

I have a G27 and playseat. I just bought an Xbox and Forza. I'm not that fast or that good, but I do enjoy playing and want the most immersive experience I can produce within reason. I'm going to buy a CSR Elite wheel plus CSPs or Elite pedals. I don't expect I will win any more races or be faster, but I expect I will have more fun. I'd rather not play Forza with a pad.

The G27 will collect dust, but I got a year use and fun out of it. If I was not going to play Forza, I would just keep my set up as is, but I would not buy a wheel today that was not multi platform compatible.

That is exactly what I'm afraid of, that I'll never turn the Xbox back on again, and that's a shame because I like playing Forza.

Now I am actually more confused than yesterday. As someone of you mentioned, it would be dumb to buy a wheel that's not compatible with both consoles.

I am actually kind of leaning towards the Fanatec 911 GT2 (think it's called that), it works on the Xbox and PS3, just need to research a bit on how much noise it produces.

Yep. At least I love gaming on my PC anyways so it worked out for me. But unfortunately my buds are forza fans and they want me to play with them. But the thought of going back to a pad makes me wanna puke

I don't get how they can be so happy playing with their little pads. Ignorance is truly bliss though. That's the only explanation lol

Will be cool once I get the CSR Elite wheel for some casual xbox/GT5 play. Hopefully I'll smoke them badly and they'll reconsider. Of course Forza has 'nannies' or whatever you want to call it to give pad users certain advantages is my guess. Cause I know in iRacing, etc pad users have a bad time as far as I know

Is Forza something that should be played with a wheel then? I thought it was an arcade ish game. Which in my opinion are better with less serious hardware.
I still can't place the game much higher then Shift 2.

Anyhow, I'll destroy you in GT5 once I get my CSW. Mwahahaha *hides*

Forza is much better than Shift 2, I have both.

@sandboxgod (creepy nickname :))
I can see that you can't even imagine playing GT or Forza with the pad. Is it really that "realistic" when playing with a wheel, because if that's true, I'll be wining everything once I get my stand up and running.

I still haven't decided on the wheel, am back towards the Logitech because I googled the Fanatec wheel and saw some youtube videos that were pretty noisy. I guess I'll have to play Forza with the pad then. End of discussion :)
