Which tv would be most suitable for gt5? Is it true gt5 runs smoother at a lower rate with a 42" plasma with 720p at 600hz? Or should l go for the full blown 48" at 1080?

Is 3D even really worth it either? I hear there are some limitations to what it offers mid-game.

GT5 displays in 1080 natively, it will show a lot nicer if your TV is 1080i/p. I use a 42" LCD with 1080 @ 60hz and looks crisp and clean (despite few in-game graphic flaws like some shadows).

I've only tried 3D a few times but loved it, it gives you the feel of the depth of the track. My TV doesn't support 3D (yet :) ) but when it dies, I will definitely be getting a 3D capable one.

To be honest, I think you should always go with an LCD TV over Plasma (even better if it's LED backlit). Plasma screens are thicker, heavier, use more power and are more harmful to the environment when you dispose of them. As for screen size, if you buy a smaller TV with the same resolution the picture will always look "better" because the pixel density is higher, but a big TV is always nice just because of the huge picture.

I think the main point of your question is does GT5 run better at 720p as opposed to 1080p. I don't personally see GT5 running any smoother when I use a 720p TV, there's still some screen tear and jagged shadows. You might as well go for a 1080p TV, which is GT5's native resolution, a little more future proof and also covers a lot more of the bases for every day TV use.

To anyone who asks for my opinion, I always personally recommend a 1080p LCD TV with the largest screen size you can realistically afford and fit in your house. Unless you want to join me: I'm waiting for the next line of super responsive, super high contrast, super thin, super efficient and super high-res line of OLED TV's ;)

Whether you want to go 3D is something only you can answer, you will always get a flame war between people who love it and people who hate it. You should go to a shop and look at a few yourself and then make your decision. :)

I have a 46" Plasma 1080P and it looks really good with GT5.

Plasmas look perfect from any angle, have less (if any) motion blur, and have better blacks than LCD's ... all of which make them better for gaming.

If I remember an old test correctly, the guys measuring frame rate and screen tear at both 720p and 1080p came to a conclusion that neither are better nor worse than the other, since the game was designed to run at 1080p anyway.

I think at 720p, the game puts a little more effort into anti-aliasing, but the 1080p resolution obviously has a better overall display (on a large screen).

If I were you, you might as well go for a 1080p TV, and 3D while you're at it, why hold back? You'll only look back in the near future and wish you went for the better option.

Yeah but suffer from image burn in. So if you play GT for hours I pray you like seeing a HUD while watching a movie.

Plasma's haven't suffered from burn in for years. My plasma is 3 years old now, and has no burn in whatsoever. Not only does it get used for GT5 on a nightly basis, but it's also my PC monitor as well, and can have a still screen (such as the desktop) left on there for hours with no effect.

If there is any burn in, 15 minutes of a static channel screen will clear it all up.

I've been using a 32" Vizio LED slimline. This TV utterly amazing for the price point.
Weighs just north of 5 lbs, is only 1.5" thick, 1080p, for $300 can't be beat for the money.

I've had Samsung and Sony LCDs before this that cost hundreds more, the Vizio just looks better IMO. You don't have to spend 2k on a decent screen anymore.

One word...SHARP.

Be aware that GT5 only runs at 30fps and sometimes much less in 3D mode!

82 inch DLP Mitsubishi TV, with 3D, that's a good tv, 1080p BTW

I have a hisense 46 " led 3D tv and I have to say its flipping amazing with 3D on or off when I first started using it I said it was no different then my old plasma it wasn't till I went back to it one day that I noticed how dull the colors were and how the picture just seems dark.but led as with frame rates I don't have a problem running 1080p only main things that show up is when online that's all but even a hdmi lead has shown a difference I changed from a standard to a gold plated and it all seems more clear and vibrant . If it Bugs you that much just remember how bad it was to have to zoom in to see things hahaha I don't miss those days at all

I use a 48" Samsung LED TV. Runs nicely, especially the fact that you an change the lighting and /or sound to match a specific theme ('movie,' 'dynamic.' etc).

I use a samsung 52" Plasma 720p works awsome picture is amazing (especially considering I went from a rear projection tv). Bought for $400 CAD. clearance priced cuz it was last years model.

I have a 32 inch Bravia which unnecessarily has the 1080p resolution option. To be honest, the game looks much better in 720p in small screens.

Another word: YES!

One word...SHARP.

You both are missing the most important word.

Quattron.

Seriously, take your PS3 to Best Buy, plug it in, and you will rejoice. No 3D but I believe they still are the only manufacturer to make an 80 inch.

I bought my 46 inch December 12th of 2010 for 1050, regularly 1499. I bought the warranty, and when I checked in february, they said I could get the replacement model on warranty or 1,000. If you wait for a deal, you can't beat it. Over a year old, and I've lost 50 bucks.

It seems over rated, and was annoying at first, but seeing the yellow in the screen does make a difference. I am partially color blind and a bit into photography, and I spent a long time barking and complaining about how nothing properly shows an image. Mobile phone screens, my dSLR screens, and every tv. But looking at images on the Quattron. It's another world. On the most beautiful day, I'll close my blinds behind my tv to shut out the world and play planet earth, or look at images.

The wiring in most stores does not do it justice. I implore you to test it out. I've never met someone who has used my television and not decided to get a Quattron as their next television.

(Although I use good HDMI cords, and always blu ray or .ts, which may have an affect.)

Oh, yea, Quattrons are usually LED, I believe they are all LEDs, but I do not know this for fact. FYI, because no other screens use yellow, you can only see the difference in person or through print, such as a picture. I also suggest Best Buy for price matching, and for their black tie warranty. Well worth it. For 249.99, if anything goes wrong in four years, they replace it free of charge for the same model, or it's value. If it's not available, they upgrade it.

Plasma's are good, and the burn in is gone, and they are a bit more eco friendly, but they get VERY hot, and I've been told the more one uses them, the shorter time they last. I do not know that second part to be true, just the first with the temperature.

Whatever you do, don't go LCD. As in, flourescent back lighting. Go LED LCD. Price have dropped enough, I don't know why they even sell regular LCD anymore. OLED will be nice, but you have a few years before they are out and reasonable.

I am by no means a master, but I spend approximately 7 months searching for my perfect tv, so I have some knowledge. If you want to ask me something, I might know it, so PM me. (I usually forget to re look at threads)

I got the Sharp 80" (LC-80LE632U) late last year when it first came out, just a FYI though, its not Quattron. Playing GT5 on that is pretty nice and immersive but you need to sit at least a good 10' away from the screen.

And LCD's haven't suffered from bad black levels for years. :sly:

My plasma gets ghosting images but as someone said swith to the white snowy screen fixes it.

Oh yeah im using a 42 inch panasonic viera plasma.

1080p. You can upscale 720p plasma tv's to 1080p, but just know that it isn't going to be a nice as a true 1080p tv, and you may run into some problems with screen burn. just make sure you use the TV settings you make sure that you don't burn in too many all at once or cause retention

I think you should go for the 3 screen multi display set up with 3 TVs, 3 PS3s, and 3 copies of GT5.

I'm not a specialist at all, but apparently you can avoid those ghost image if you let your tv running 24/24 for sometimes, I dont rememeber exactly how much because it's a friend that did it with his plasma and since then he never had any problem.

Whatever you do, don't pay any extra for a "Quattron“ TV. It has been shown by tests the four sub-pixel technology does NOT increase range of colours over normal RGB TV's.

On top of this, there is basically no source media that contains a data to tell the yellow sub-pixel what to do. This means that the extra colour comes from post processing inside the TV itself, which ends up with colours that are not true to what the content creator wanted you to see.

I will be an early adopter of OLED this summer, when they finally hit the scene. I am hoping they come out with smaller than 55" sizes though. 37" is what I'm comfortable at, because of my smaller condo living space. Unfortuantely, for the longest time in recent years, no flat panels were ever made that were anything but 32 or 40, with nothing inbetween. (/firstworldproblems)

Might get this new Panasonic model tonight, from my local store for grownups, until OLED comes to send the current crop of backlight bleeding eyestraining LCD and LED into the stone ages. good riddance.

IPS Alpha LED Panel ==> http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/TC-L37E3

I still currently drive in front of a 26inch 1st gen LCD, has no black level detail whatsoever, but it does run at 1080p, go figure.

My roomy bought a Panasonic Viera 50" with 3D, plasma.
and I must say its quite nice.

Everyone I ask about it, they say Plasma is the best to play video games since ghost image are a thing of the past.

The 3D is great but you need to test out different paralax to get the best of it.
Also, if you dont have home theater the sound is horrid.

Personaly I think 50" is way too big to play video games since my playing style is adapted from computer gaming, very close from screen. So I play on my cheap TV, No hdmi, no led or lcd or plasma its just a plain old toshiba tube hdtv and it does it job perfectly.

55" Sony Bravia, 240hz, 3D ready and fully loaded, 1080p.

Sony's are junk, they only have good sound, everyone thinks their good cause they are spensive. I would say vizio or sharp. Stay far away from 3D for a while or forever for that matter. The industry jumped the gun on the technology

This TV is the best TV I've ever owned. Vizio are too bright and Sharps are good.
