I'm confused by this. There was some strategy to picking different tires in patch 1.06 but now that goes away in 1.07. If there is no lobby restriction you will now have to run racing soft tires to keep up. In the races I ran online, tire strategy made things interesting. On tight courses you were always better off with racing soft tires, but on courses with long straights a driver that opted for more horse power and less grip could out run the competition on the straights and then block through the turns.

So if there was some reason people didn't want it as part of PP, please explain.

Yeah I'm confused by this restriction also. Aren't tires the most important part of a car's performance? If so, then why take it out of the equation altogether?

I'm fine either way, but it makes it a little bit easier for guys to tune their cars.

I can't find the post now, but I know when 1.06 came out - a few posters were very upset about the PP being impacted by tire selection (I believe they said Forza was that way)

I didn't understand the reason, as the OP pointed out, there was now strategy in it, and I also VERY MUCH APPRECIATED that I didn't HAVE TO BUY RACING SOFTS FOR EVERY CAR I OWNED TO COMPETE ONLINE. It opened up my garage for online.... not just every car I've tuned for racing softs....

I LOVED the strategy it introduced, now it doesn't matter.

Someone PLEASE explain the appeal of this, I don't get it and think its a big step back. :grumpy:

It messed up the numbers. Looking at my garage and trying to choose a car was a pain because there is no display on the list to show tires. So if I left certain tires on I would get inaccurate numbers and not know.

That being said I have not noticed they implemented this. If they added a display and allowed you to change tires directly from.the triangle menu I would welcome the return.

Who cares? Everyone runs race softs anyway. Driving with mediums is like someone puked gravy all over the road.

Actually I useally use sport soft on my cars and online, most of the times, I search for rooms with tire restrictions to sport tires. They feel a lot more realistic imo.

Agreed. I prefer the new system.

The room host can just set a tire restriction. It helps make your cars more consistent so you don't have to re-tune the whole car just because a room has a tire restriction.

Because PD are incompetent? Seems obvious doesn't it?

Me too. 👍

And the complexities of tuning remain for the REAL fine-tuning of cars. A good tuner, faced with the same car and the same PP value, will set it up differently if it is to be entered in a RH event or a Sports Medium event. The driver needs to adjust, but the car also.

I agree with OP. I don't like racing with sport softs or especially racing softs since often they are way too grippy. I like my cars to be dacing on the very limit of grip, not flooring it in every corner and driving the car on rails.

Why do people insist on using the tires are too grippy meme or that function is arcade like. News flash people, every single aid or tire selection has a razor's edge. If your complaining about too much grip, you just left a few tenths out there.

I was one of the people who complained. First, no real world racing series that I know of lets you add more power to your car or take off weight in exchange for using a lesser tire. Second, tire strategy should be based on tire wear versus grip not adding more power. PD still needs to fix tire wear but that is another issue.

This is true. I'm no Lucas Ordonez but I'm pretty damn good and manage to push my cars online hard enough to lose control or spin out on racing softs sometimes. They aren't arcade, real life soft race tires can be just as grippy they just usually last less time.

I hate the change. Now to compete I will be forced to buy Racing Softs for all my cars.
The old system while not entirely realistic enabled people to compete with any car (even those never touched before but that ended up someway in the garage) as long as their PP complied with the defined limit. Now that won't be possible anymore. It will also be much harder to find suitable races for one's own cars (unless all kind of tires are purchased each time. I never do that).

To think that everybody would get Racing Soft anyway is a wrong assumption in my opinion. Personally I never go further than Racing Hard.
For most road legal cars I use Sports Hard tires. For all other cars I seldom drive, I use whatever tires they come with.

Totally agree, hate the change. Tires are a primary variable in vehicle performance, and it's no longer included in PP calculation? As most online races are sprints, this will mean everyone will run race softs unless limited by the host. I understand the argument that tire selection should be based on grip/wear rates, but both the grip modelling (which has proven to be inaccurate in a linear fashion) and the wear rate differentials between tire types aren't realistic enough to stand on their own. IRL, softer compound tires IMPROVE the performance of the vehicle, the fact that the improvement is shorter-lived is a consequence which has nothing to do PP. Removing tires from PP was a mistake that will cost everyone $36,000.00 per car. Perhaps they removed it from PP becuase they know their tire modelling (grip/wear) is broken?

Why is it a big deal? The host can restrict tires at any time already.

It sucks because 95% of the online community doesnt like to race on anything other than super softs. I really dont understand why everyone likes to waste $36k on super softs for cars under 500hp. So annoying when you find low pp races but no tire restriction.

I like both ways! that just comes closer to real life! in real life you dont have to reduse HP just becosue you using better tyres. Now its more simple tune cars and drive cars with tyres that is required. More easy!

100% agree! with super soft racing tyres game is Extra booring and unreal!

I can't compare stock with racing cars anymore.

1 - They fixed a good PP system. Online restrictions are now much useless without a proper, tire based, PP system.
2 - PP visualization is buggier then before
3 - Why fix a thing that anyone had asked for?
4 - All PP now seems to be calculated with some racing tires, for all cars. No more balancing with fast street cars and low powered racing counterparts.

Going to open a new feedback topic: for those who liked PP in 1.06.

Very disappointed, today....

Yes, but it is only a small fraction of hosts who use everything at their disposal to make a fun racing lobby. You'll be lucky if they even enforce a PP limit less than 900, let alone a tyre grade limit. With the old system, they inadvertently made sports soft tyres competitive, and this new update just undid that.

Granted, it isn't really a fault of the system that this is a problem at all, but I think PD should try to predict the general incompetency of the players as well.

All who is saying new thing is bad didnt play online alot! Just find proper host! dont join to random rooms, Find a good one! for me its more easy to navigate now in PP system. Just set tyres Sports:soft and PP550 Pick a car and drive! where is the problem?

This is just speculation but I think they did this as a temporary fix to v1.06 PP system: You were able to "cheat" by entering a race satisfying the PP requirements using Sports Soft (as an example) then, once on the track, you were able go into the pits and change them to Racing Softs.. without getting booted out of the race.

So.. IMO, don't be surprised if Tires become a part of PP once again in a future update.

Cmon man, I find its the opposite, that most of the tyres feel too slippery and unreal, like someone said, gravy all over the road.

Whoever was saying in this thread they dont liek racing softs because they are too grippy and the cars turn like they are on rails, damn how slow do you drive not to push them to the limit?

Even with Racing softs, I am sliding and fighting for traction with literally every car I drive, even on the low PP ones, let alone fast cars.

Even in something thats meant to turn good like an elise with Racing softs you are fighting fo grip.

I find it very funny how many people are saying the tyres are too grippy in this game. Sometimes I think rubber is rubber and no street legal tyres can be as bad as tyres are potrayed in gt5.

Put Comfort hard on the rear of a car but keep super soft or racing soft on the front, and the car will spin out in a turn doing like 20mph.

No brand new freaking tyres loose traction at 20mph, its like anything other than a racing soft feels like its made of ice.

It's an attempt to balance the game.

But honestly, was there any balancing issues at all with the PP system in the 1.06 patch? (I wouldn't know, I don't have online).

The pp system never equilibrated race cars with street cars. It only appeared to do so, depending on the driver you encountered using the race car. The opportunity for you to test the theory under the old system is gone, but I conducted a test using the Clio trophy car and the street version in the game. The street version needed about 10 to 15 more pp as I recall to equal the race version. The pp system works for race car to race car comparison, and street to street.
