Who asked for tire selection to not be factored into Performance Points?

This is just speculation but I think they did this as a temporary fix to v1.06 PP system: You were able to "cheat" by entering a race satisfying the PP requirements using Sports Soft (as an example) then, once on the track, you were able go into the pits and change them to Racing Softs.. without getting booted out of the race.

So.. IMO, don't be surprised if Tires become a part of PP once again in a future update.
Oh, that could probably be it... though it makes me wonder why they didn't just fix that in the patch instead of bypassing the problem entirely with new system. I'm not a PD employee, but it sounds like something easily-fixable programming-wise.

Again, speculating.. but removing tires from the PP formula was propably easier (read: quicker) a fix then doing it the proper way. There was also the issue of PP not updating on the screen (but it did in the background) in the Tuning Shop when you changed tires.

I hate the change. Now to compete I will be forced to buy Racing Softs for all my cars.
The old system while not entirely realistic enabled people to compete with any car (even those never touched before but that ended up someway in the garage) as long as their PP complied with the defined limit. Now that won't be possible anymore. It will also be much harder to find suitable races for one's own cars (unless all kind of tires are purchased each time. I never do that).

To think that everybody would get Racing Soft anyway is a wrong assumption in my opinion. Personally I never go further than Racing Hard.
For most road legal cars I use Sports Hard tires. For all other cars I seldom drive, I use whatever tires they come with.

Akira, you know that when host chooses type of tires all cars will be racing same tyres even if someone didn't buy them ?

I think GT5p had a good system for PP along with tires.. it worked out well.

Akira, you know that when host chooses type of tires all cars will be racing same tyres even if someone didn't buy them ?

I see his point though, if there's no restriction in place, and he doesn't have racing softs for that car, he has to buy them.

He also had the option of using a lesser tire and using the extra PP to increase HP, reduce weight, increase downforce.

Cmon man, I find its the opposite, that most of the tyres feel too slippery and unreal, like someone said, gravy all over the road.

Whoever was saying in this thread they dont liek racing softs because they are too grippy and the cars turn like they are on rails, damn how slow do you drive not to push them to the limit?

Even with Racing softs, I am sliding and fighting for traction with literally every car I drive, even on the low PP ones, let alone fast cars.

Even in something thats meant to turn good like an elise with Racing softs you are fighting fo grip.

I find it very funny how many people are saying the tyres are too grippy in this game. Sometimes I think rubber is rubber and no street legal tyres can be as bad as tyres are potrayed in gt5.

Put Comfort hard on the rear of a car but keep super soft or racing soft on the front, and the car will spin out in a turn doing like 20mph.

No brand new freaking tyres loose traction at 20mph, its like anything other than a racing soft feels like its made of ice.

You are simply wrong. Read you speed when tyres start to scream also how much you turn wheel.

I did. I called Kaz, asked him, and he said OK.

If a host of race will give PP limit and he will allow for any tires then that is not a problem with PD or Kaz but with a host. See my point? :>

About this update i feel completly oposite of you guys.

Try to fit your PP when i will give restriction to tires, you have manually try diffrent cars and change tires for all of them constantly trying to fit proper car.

With new update if i allow only for sport hard with PP limit people won't be changing their cars for 30 minutes they will simply choose car with PP based solely on car perdormance not performance + actual set of tires which can be misleading.

That's not what I'm experiencing.

The current online room I'm in has a tire restriction of maximum Sports:Soft tires, but I don't have and can't use them with my current car.

Since the PP system was introduced, whenever I've ventured online I've run my own room for 400 or 450pp and forced comfort-soft tyres. The mix of cars is great, the corner speeds are realistic and cars are fun to drive.

People get hooked on the Racing Soft Tyres, and they're ridiculous, frankly.

PP is way off as a measurement anyway. Take these 3 examples.

Pagani Zonda R - Oil change - Around 660pp
Mclaren F1 Road car - Oil change - Around 660pp - (much slower and less powerful than the Zonda)
Mclaren F1 Road car no2 - No oil change but fully modded with aerodynamics, much faster than the standard Mclaren F1, only slightly less powerful due to no oil change. - 611pp

The Pagani is well over 700bhp, and is basicly a racing car, the 2nd Mclaren is a fully race modded F1 that weighs less and is intended to mimic the GTR race cars, it has high downforce levels and shorter gear ratios. The first Mclaren has a higher PP rate despite only having an extra 32bhp, in every other way it is inferior to the other one.

In this case, if PP worked properly you would see this.

Pagani - should be far higher than the other cars.
Mclaren F1 no2 - Racing parts and aero, weight reduction should have this considerably higher than the stock car.
Mclaren F1 no1 - Stock but with a simple oil change for around an extra 32bhp, should be considerably lower than the other vehicles.

Regarding the race car vs street car discussion... PP definitely doesn't level the field. A race car in the hands of a good driver will always be a few seconds faster per lap.

Back to the tires though, perhaps a compromise would be to have PP change between comfort, sport, and racing tires...but keep the PP the same for hard, medium, and soft within those classes.

I asked for it. I don't like mixing tires, the performance gaps are too big.

I'd have no problem if PD let people choose however.

They could've implemented 2 performance point displays in your garage/online rooms. The first number would be for the car itself, and the second would be for the car + tires.

Not complaining, by the way.

take a look at the G force you pull with comfort softs - it very closely mimic real world numbers on stock tires.

I don't know how are you lacking traction on racing softs....last time I used them I was flooring out of Suzuka's hairpin with 300hp S2000, not exactly fun.

I find driving on comfort soft and sports hard perfectly fine, every rear wheel drive car can step out at 20mph if you have a lead foot.

Im not asked this, with the old type of measure i was know instantly wich tires have my car.
👎

I thought this. They say the first thing you should buy to improve your cars performance the most is racing softs so not have them factored in to PP is a bit strange.

I'm quite annoyed at v1.07 since it directly interfered with my league, but after hearing the glitch, I'm glad they took it out. Can only hope that they try to fix it and re-release it for us to use.

The pp system never equilibrated race cars with street cars. It only appeared to do so, depending on the driver you encountered using the race car. The opportunity for you to test the theory under the old system is gone, but I conducted a test using the Clio trophy car and the street version in the game. The street version needed about 10 to 15 more pp as I recall to equal the race version. The pp system works for race car to race car comparison, and street to street.

I disagree. I easily find street cars with 25-40 PP more than an other but slower. For example, a stock Mini '98 with 323PP is still comparable with a 291PP Fiat 500 '08, and a 304PP Yaris F is considerable faster.
So the Clio example, with a 10-15PP difference, is largely under the experienced tolerance. The PP formula isn't very good, as I found better ways to estimate car performance, but in game was better than nothing; not involving tires selection only makes it even worse.

PS PP was taken in the 1.07 "version"

I hope next patch bans Race Soft tire altogether, then Kaz will have last laugh here also.

Fact of the matter is, any race in real life has the same tyre restriction for each car that's competing. So it simply makes no sense to try to balance a field based on PP with differing tyres. The new system finally makes it possible to really balance a field by using both PP and tyre restrictions.

Plus, as many pointed out already, you couldn't choose your car for a race accordingly because it depended on what tyre the setting was left last time you raced.

I like the new system. Because it simply makes sense.

Since 1.07, not including tyres in the PP system has resulted in a bad experience with online play as far as my experience is concerned.

If PP is set without tyre restrictions, I need racing soft tyres for every car I select to be most competitive.
If PP is set with tyre restrictions, I need the best available tyre for every car I select to be most competitive.

I can be fairly certain that someone will be running with the maximum PP and the best possible tyre. Previously - with tyres included in the PP calculation - if I didn’t have the best tyre available for my car of choice I would choose a less grippy tyre but run with less weight / more power / more downforce to compensate.

I could buy every sports and racing tyre for every car I own but that would become hideously expensive. Heck, 35,000 is expensive enough for racing softs but I have found myself exiting the online lobby to go back and buy racing softs just for a given race.

I cannot understand the logic in excluding tyres from PP calculations.

Real-life races will and do have fields of cars with differing tyre compounds.

I have considered this also. It should be easy enough to update PP when a tyre change is made in settings, and stop people from picking a better tyre compound than should be allowed when pitting, rather than just exlude tyres from changing PP. I hope the PP system of 1.07 is a temporary thing.
