now how do you damn control those sim tires? i cant beat the damn computer coz the tires are close to uncontrolable during turns and you cant straight in out during an exit? i tried using countersteering and it wont compensate w/ the oversteering and will spin out and throttle response can only take 50mph during turns or you will hit the sidewall! i wonder how you guys do it? oh yeah im usin stock rx7 inifinitti w/ sim tires thats it

First off, why are you trying to beat the computer drifting (and with a stock car on sims at that)?.... To answer your question...

It takes time to learn the throttle, countersteer, and weight shift control to achieve a smooth drift.... You need to use weight shift techniques (often combined with various other techniques) to initiate the drift, countersteer in the direction you want the car to travel (tracing the line with your front tires), using the throttle to control your angle (which also adjusts the line).... As you can see it is a lot to think about, and it just comes down to programing your muscle memory, which just comes with a lot of practice....

thanks for the reply actually i have no problem w/ sim tires no more lol after just few mins of postin i played a few laps and started to understand the cars response to every situation.. modulating the throttle and brakes during entry is very important which i think weight shift comes into place and i realize that exit is much better than entry...now im drifting w. sims !!!!!

O... one more tip. u want to have more angle In ur entry into the corner, and less angle as you come out of the corner NOT MoRE!!!!> it looks nasty unless ur trying to link turns or choku.

You sound like you've mastered drifting in an evening. Well, it's cool that you're using sims and developing your technique. Feel free to ask questions.

sims are designed to "simulate" real life street tires. and what exactly are you trying to do..."simulate" real life drift, correct? why not do what they do in real life...a few bolt on modifications, some decent street tires, and tons of skill.

in D1GP...it is ILLEGAL to use anything but street tires. in fact the cars must pass an inspection...requiring registration of the vehicle, as well as a decibal test in case the exhaust is too loud.

if you want to excel..sim tires are the way to go.

if you simply want to drift to say you did it..go with slicks.

(you will notice that the experienced drifters will say sims, however the noobs say slicks...hint hint ).

now since im figurin out how to use sims tires to its full potential..... do you guys know how i can go at the same pace like the other cars usin sims durin launch? sims dont have enough grip so i stay longer in the start line and it seems revs go high but i cant pick up speed even if the car is 20hp more faster than the other cars it just wont go as fast as normal tires... im tryin to change gear ratios but to no avail i havent seen any improvement... is there a tuning setting that can overcome this problem?

Think about it for a second.... If you were in a real S13 Silvia (bone stock) and launched from a dead stop your wheels would spin.... This is what always gets me, when people try to say sim tires are unrealistic (not saying that you're saying that)... You have to give it a small amount of throttle at first, and then shift a little lower than you normally would, until you have gained enough momentum to give full throttle without spinning.... This is exactly like real life... ( I know because I own an S13, and it does just that)....

What I'm still trying to figure out is why you are trying to race against people drifting with sims?.... You do know that drifting is about exhibition, not speed?.... Don't you?...

Nope, it's all about the weight and physical balance of the car.

so you're not going to be able to launch like that on sims. At least not if you take of the TCS.

Are you trying to drift or grip?

EDIT: LOL, SD and I posted at the same time adn said the same thing(almost) pretty funny! :)

ok SD im gonna answer your question *rofl why i keep on tryin to beat the damn computer... basically i just want to.. i know grip is more faster than drift in most situations but i want to improve my technique its kinda boring winning w/ grip driving... if i could beat the computer then it means im doin the right thing and hopefully execute drifts in certain turn in a perfect line.... oh yeah i do get your point about the sims and i to own a s13 just a k24det thou ... yeah rwd tend to spin out at rear but im just *****in coz i havent figured out to go faster at the same pace i bet theres away to fix this :dopey:

and swift im doin both grip and drift (but mostly drift coz of damn sims are slippy) but that is not a problem i more concerned about the launch :dopey:

Your launch is never going to be a shot out of gun. Period. Not on sims. Your best bet is to do what SD was saying. I'm assuming your in the beginner races? That means you only have 2 laps and launch is critical. Honestly bud, I went through the same thing. "If I can beat the computer then I'm good at drifting" Well that's not always the case. Espeically if you want to be an exhibition drifter.

So I would say focus on technique and leave the racing to the grip stuff!

i know your point swift but i dont wanna give out so easily and besides i got nothing else to do oh well....
for exhaust .... i didnt say i cant grip did i? well im racing in apricot hill theres a lot of turns and big hairpins (which where i grip but it will lose traction coz of too much steering on the corner which cause some minor drift in the middle of the turn)
omg nevamind lolz

im go to bed zzzzzzzz ill gonna try sd's suggestion tommorow lets see how things work

exhaust is right before u can drift at a decent level u must have knowledge of the car physics what it can and cant do .. and u have to know the correct line to take for each turn before u can complete a good drift around ne given turn .. day to day ne racer drifter whatever are constantly learning new lines .. quote unquote the best line for their grip drift needs :) just thought i would put my 2 cents in lol drift on

I just explained to you how to launch without slipping.... Try to read a bit slower next time....

Also, drifting in races, against the computer is not going to improve your exhibition drifting skills... It will only improve your speed drifting skills... If you want to be a speed drifter, keep doing what you're doing... If you want to be a skilled exhibition drifter you need to study real life techniques, watch real life (and GT3) drift vids, and practice (preferably in arcade mode (Free Run)....

;)

SD i did read it and tried your solution ;) sims dont work very well on the starting line hahahaha... ok about exhibition drifting im goonna do some practice damn those u turns are killin me havent found the line for the car to drift at it

its just about the same as a race line except you might break later so you end up losing more traction, it all depends on your technique, but the race line and drift line are just about the same.

Just practice and you will eventually get the flow... From what your saying, your doing better than most people that just started learning drifting.... :)
