Gabkickslol, stan. Why are almost all the newbs like this? Well, the answer is they are Noobs. lol Ignorant in the ways of drifting. But they shall learn... in time..
Lol, what im trying to say iz im too cocky.. lol. I honestly cant wait to get my @$$ kicked by silvia and busta in gt4.
Well, here's where stock car terminology works backwards:SwiftMuch gear? what does that mean.
Uh, I keep the revs pretty high. You have to stay in the powerband to have good control. Once you're in the drift with a FR it's all about countersteer and throttle control. If you're not in the powerband, you loose one of your forms of control over the drift.
Victor VanceWell, here's where stock car terminology works backwards:
*The more gear you run, the higher your engine revs at the end of the track's longest straightaway...
So, if you have a Camaro Z/28 that's at 5,000 rpm at 170 mph the end of the Grand Valley Straight, you'd be running less gear than if the car was to be at 6,000 rpm at the same speed.
Confusing, huh?
SwiftOk, but how does that apply to the tires that you're using to drift with?
RyosukeFCDSI think what he means by more gear is longer gear ratios?
This doesn't apply to drift, shorter gear ratios are better suited for drifting as you can stay in the maximum torque range.
Dunno if this helps you for the game, but real drifters would prefer shorter gear ratios.
Probably because most people are crap and can't use throttle control on sims, so the longer gear ratios the slower the car revs up, easier for people to control.
undien717I always found it hard to drift longer w/ racing tires, or any other tires besides sim tires. I think using SIM tires is a lot more fun since you really have to pay attention to throttle control while drifting. Using the well designed pedals on the DFP really helped in this aspect-
divine_monklol. this thread keeps going in circles.
MdnIteThe n00bs that use tyre mixing for exhibition drifting is what i'm talking about. Mixing tyres to race drift is altogether a different subject![]()
Everyone who said this.......I AGREE 100%I find Sim tires as the best to use for drifting
GabkicksLet the damn thread die. Stickie it and force all the noobs to read this thread. lol.
MdnIteI never read the Setting depot so I wouldn't know... But truly IMO, Noobs should not be scabbing settings anyway... they have to find their own settings to adjust to their own styles...
RX-7 FD DrifterSims will teach you wat is called Throttle control very quickly
If I wasz crap and didn't use throttle I'd use traction control, if you run little gear, about 1,000 off the powerband through the corner you're drifting, you have a decent amount of time under WOT before the engine picks up and overspins the rear tires. If you drove a full blown C4 like this you'd understand the importance of tall gears...RyosukeFCDSI think what he means by more gear is longer gear ratios?
