Who doesn't bother with tuning suspension settings?

I invested a lot of time in changing my suspension setting in GT4 and I never really noticed the difference in changing the suspension. I would spend ages driving a car around a track just to test my suspension settings , writing down lap times but I always felt like I put in so much time for very little reward. I'll change my tires because I can definitely notice the difference in the way a car handles but not suspension. In GT5 I don't even bother anymore. Anyone else the same? By the way I'm using a DS3 (and used the DS2 only in GT4 as well but I would prefer a wheel).

I don't touch the suspension settings unless I wanna see the bottom of the car touching the ground lol

All 100 of my "favorite" cars (and many more) have thorough suspension tuning. I notice the difference easily. I think most people here tune their suspensions.

Well your never going to 'feel' the change through your controller, the only thing you have to go on is visual cues on the screen for which there are very minimal if not none when you change damper,spring hardness etc..

However if you have a wheel you can feel the difference with how the weight is transferred, the hardness/softness of the suspension and so forth..

To answer your question : I think most controller user's wouldn't bother, whilst wheel users might be more inclined to have a fiddle round.

Controller or not though, it does affect how your car handles in game, regardless of whether you 'feel' it or not.

You can get a brand new DFGT for just a little bit more than you paid for 1 game... Where as you can use your DFGT on a LOT more than just 1 game including ones current and in the future.

It seems odd to me that people are willing to spend money on just 1 game but they won't cough up for an accessory that is going to make EVERY driving game they play now and in the future 10x 100x more enjoyable... Not having a dig at you personally, more a general observation.

I do, even without a wheel. It's a sim after all, it helps reduce body roll & keep the car glue to the track. Stock on some cars is pretty bad :indiff:

I leave mine as it is and just make sure that I don't add too much power to the car. If I knew more about what I was doing (nobody's fault but mine for lack of knowledge) then I would make adjustments.

The game has descriptions for every single suspension setting (as well as drivetrain, transmission and brakes).

Suspension tuning is very important...especially in heavily restricted (online)races.👍 Suspension tuning can make the difference between a pole and a last position.

I stand corrected then.

For the first 2 weeks i played GT5 and i gotta say i couldn't feel much of anything through the controller and quickly went out and got a wheel. But maybe that was just me personally.

I know, I've given it a try several times and have been unsuccessful at fine tuning a suspension setup that I'd actually enjoy. I know this kind of stuff takes time but I honestly would rather spend that time completing races.

lol... I wanted to do the same but only wanted a wheel that was compatible with PS3 and 360. Unfortunately, the steering wheel that is capable of doing so is a little too rich for my blood... lol

Sometimes, the Apex book has a great guide for different times, like understeer, oversteer, wet, gravel etc.

Who doesn't bother with tuning suspension settings?

Probably most players. It's unlikely that the majority of GT players know enough about tuning to fiddle with it. I sometimes tune my cars based on a tuning setup I found online, but generally don't bother with it and I don't know enough about it to mess with it myself.

Now, for FM3 I started tuning all of my cars, but someone created a nifty tuning calculator that did a decent job of it, so I just jotted down my car's attributes (weight, drivetrain, weight distribution, et cetera), plugged the data into the calculator, and came out with a tuning setup that surely wasn't the best but still better than default. If there was something like that for GT I'd probably tune all of my cars.

Camber & Toe is a must to dial in....

My common toe setting is;
Front Toe;
-0.1' on all cars
Rear Toe;
FF 0'
FR/MR 0.05'-0.15'
4WD 0.05'-0.10'

Camber around 0.5'-1.5'

I do tend to lower the suspension, and ride initially on default spring rates & damping. Make adjustments from there, if needed.

...umm, even if you just go in there and lower the ride height you should notice a hefty difference in cornering.

Trust me u r a absolute fool if u don't change the suspension. For example drive a FF car and than change the rear toe from 0.20 to -0.20 and drive it again and u will notice a big difference just from that alone. I have almost every premium car fully maxed out and have tuned each one. Usually I'll just try and find someone's tune which is easy with this site and if I can't find any or I don't like them I tune it myself. The only exception to tune suspension would be cars like the SLS that are already good and just need better tires and minor LSD changes. Suspension makes a huge difference either way.

Tuning the suspension is vital, it can make a huge difference to SOME cars, especially cars that are running low grip tyres like sports soft or racing hards (compared to racing softs). The diference in lap times and tyre wear between a good setup and either a default or bad setup is big.

Tuning the setup also allows you to have the car dialled in to your own personal driving style too.

Absolutely agree with everyone on the thread who says it's a must. Be warned though, do not base your tuning on real life scenario, tune according to what works online.

Also, the LSD settings can be vital too - learning both of these and then how to get the two to work together will result in your car doing things you never thought possible. I've seen it with guys who didn't tune their cars well, then they learnt how to tune it acccoring to what works in the game and they couldn't believe the difference.

I refuse to spend alot of time on suspension settings until PD release a patch that allows you to save multiple setups.

Run this Vs Default settings and see why I tune cars.

Although I don't mess with my suspension settings, there is a lot of useful info available in the tuning section. I've tried various tunes that have been posted and the one I've had the most success with was the Scal (sp) ZR1 RM tune. I'll eventually try some other tunes when I start playing GT5 again.

I don't go to extreme lengths tuning the suspension. I might adjust for understeer/ oversteer by playing with camber and toe or tweak the spring rate for the type of road surface but I don't make a significant change to any of the suspension settings.
