Rav3nNZ-
I personally cant stand how the camera is locked behind the car in gt4 and gt5. like it moves with the car instead of allowing the car to turn a little bit without the camera turning.

Really want this changed back to how it used to be back in gt3 as it was perfect!

Anyone else agree with me?

i know it may seem like a small issue to you but i cant stand it!! it really ruined the experience for me with gt4 and that was an awesome game.

Maybe if you agree post a reply to this as surely polyphony digital are reading these forums and they'll take notice.

an option to turn camera lock on and off would be great!!!

On the one hand, I agree, I'd like to see a litte movement of the car first to aid in gauging the position of the wheels, but then again, that is only if I use that view...which I don't! Never have, and never will do. I just don't get on with it at all, and much prefer hood cam over all others.

Yeah, we've already discussed how the chase can it's bad, you can count on your fingers how many people use it. Bumper cam is far better.

^Awesome! I'm one of those fingers!:dopey:

To the question asked in this thread: I actually like the camera angles in GT4 and GT5. Made me feel I was in more control of the car.

i never play behind the car. but i hate the "roof" camara view. i think its better to have the camara on the hood of the car, it has a better driving experience. + when you play whit the roof camara view, and drive whit the Mitsubichi lancer or Mini Cooper, your entire screen is filled whit roof. or when u drive a ford focus, you only see that big antenne which splits your tv-screen in two like an 2-player multiplayer game.

Why? I think it makes the car feel sluggish. As if my steering didn't work properly. When the camera is fixed it has a snappy feeling and I see always where my car is going.

And that's the reason because are fixed. To the mainstream is more easy to control the car with a fixed camera than a wobbly camera.

Kaz spoke about that when he made the change from GT4P to GT4, he found that the casual people playing the demos can't control the car properly.

Regarding the "locked" chase camera angle:

Why? I think it (the wobbly helicopter chase) makes the car feel sluggish. As if my steering didn't work properly. When the camera is fixed it has a snappy feeling and I see always where my car is going.

👍
Cheers Mates, it seems that i am the third one on the hand.

I only and exclusively use the chase cam view (since GT2 and for every car game as a matter of fact), therefore it should be appropriate that I be the middle finger !

I feel much better controlling the car in that view. (by default of not having a G-simulator)

For example: I played the demo of latest SEGA rally racing game, which HAS that loose helicopter chase angle. And i personally find it disturbing!

But to be fair with everyone, i would agree that there should be an option to allow or disable that Locked camera in the chase view. The more options we have, the better. Heck, i wish there could be the replay view from God's perspective...( you guys remember in GT2, there was a view straight down from above that we could selected to view the race during replay, i love that!!! )

They should have given the option to have the wobbly cam, I don't care as I drive from inside the car anyway. Gives me the best experience as I can see my side mirrors and look out the left and right window, besides feels like I'm in a car.

Totally forgot about that! I liked that view as well, it made it easier analysing your racing line :)

I just wish the outside- behind car view was a bit closer in GT5p. My favorite view is the interior because it's as if i'm driving the real car! :)

Ill still be hoping for a head-tracking cockpit view. To me the view is perfect and the digital actions of looking left and right with my wheel's Dpad is do-able.

But I could only imagine how great it'd be for me if I could instead give precise analog input of looking left and right with my head. It would really help with connecting me with the view and making it more life-like 👍

Same exact page.

The first time I played GT4, I didn't like it one bit, perhaps because I was so used to GT3's camera. To me, it seemed like the track was turning a bit more, and the car not as much. When I understeered/oversteered it looked rather odd. As I played GT4 more often though, I got used to it. If I had to choose, probably more like GT3's.

Don't mind either though.

I don't often drive in chase view (I switched to bumper-cam in 1999...) and I can't remember which I prefer, but I do remember that the chase views changed between versions of GT; some of them I "liked" whilst I distinctly remember one which was impossible to control the car with. If only I knew which it was; I can't A-B GT5:P with anything, and I'm crap with chase view now anyway.

However, GT1 and GT2 had several options for chase cam. I think, judging by the fact that many different people prefer different types of chase view (maybe their brains are broken... :dopey:), it is almost mandatory that this "feature" be present in GT5.

If 6-DOF headtracking makes it into GT5, I'll be cockpit-cam all the way. If not, I doubt I'll be coaxed away from the broadband, widescreen, full-fat saturation that is the bumper-cam. I need all the viewspace I can get.

I like the chase cam over the interior view because I like seeing the track, my car, and other cars as a whole. For some reason I just can't get my lines right in the interior view, but can get it down from chase.

Must be because I can prepare for corners better in chase.

Honestly this game is going to sell so much more if the camera view is NOT locked like it is.

Put it back to the way it was in GT3 and have an option to lock it.

Honestly its so much harder to control your car and to tell when its starting to slide the way it is and when you realise you try correct but the car just flicks violently and spins out.

As the camera is its a huge turn off and its just not fun coming from a forza motorsport player.

The camera from forza motorsport is exactly like the camera in gt3.

If the camera was unlocked and able to move a bit then ALOT of forza fans would be converted.

Ive always liked Gran turismo more tho except forza replaced gt4.

GT5 is just taking so long i needed a filler!!!

I'd like to drive in chase view but not with the GT5p chase view... I always wondered why t's so bad... 1st it's way waaay too far away from the car and 2nd too high and 3rd it's zoomed in = sense of speed is lost ... I'd prefer a chase cam for example like in GRID DIRT SHIFT PGR Ferrari Challenge even Forza.... they are close to the car and aren't static ... I played Forza 2/3 while wating for GT5, just with the chase view because I liked that it's close to the car and not static... Exactly the points that disturbing me of the GT5 View ... And I'd like if the camera would be 360° spinable with the right analogstick like in all other racers aswell... I want to see the car in it's whole beauty :D

I think this issue are for the ones who likes to play in standard physics, or GT1, GT2 style physics. I for one like that view, back then, but after I got some more understanding on motor sports and cars, I moved on. :) So I guess this wouldn't hurt PD if they add it. More people will jump in and play if they did.

no its not better for games with standard physics, look at forza, you cant say it doesnt have good physics.

Gt5 is better but still.

Just look at the latest nurburgring f1 video with the audi R8 and youll see what i mean.,

he starts sliding and he goes to correct and it just flicks around as he didnt know how much it was sliding as the camera was so locked!!!!

The camera in forza is just so much better and its really the only thing thats putting me off gt5.

Im not asking them to get rid of camera lock just an option to turn it on and off so everyone is happy;

god i hope PD see's this thread and does something about it lol.

I feel your pain Rav3nNZ..

I complained so many times already about this ridiculous chase view but now I see it in the latest videos again..

Perhaps the japanese like it like this.. but I dont...

Also I cant believe Kazunori aims for a "perfect" game and overlooks this simple detail.

This view makes me feel like driving one of the first racing games in computer-gaming history ever.. (1987)

For some reason I just can't get my lines right in the interior view, but can get it down from chase.
What I do ( which also works in real life) is I use the diametre of the steering wheel to "fit" the car where I want it to be.

I know! the crazy thing is that all the features there implementing i don't care about as much as this!

its a basic and you have to take care of the basics first! i would prefer no damage if it meant a decent chase cam like gt3.

i know there not related but you know what i mean.

perhaps if heaps of people post and vote yes or something keeping this thread alive polyphony digital will take notice.

Considering that the locked chase cam has been in GT since GT4, you should have gotten used to it by now. The transition from 3 to 4 was jarring in that aspect as the car looked as if it was controlling the camera, but then I realized I was seeing too much of my car and in a sense it completely unrealistic to drive from that view. When GT5 Prologue came along with interior car views I was awestruck, felt odd at first not seeing all the road but then as with real driving you start to approximate distance from your riding position.
GT is trying to make the game more accessible to more players, hence the locked chase cam view, they should include variable camera distance and ability to unlock the camera from the car. The natural progression is to in car view, but to make this work it has to be adjustable four ways; fore and aft and up and down.

I would like a view that is unlock in another way. Player can adjust the width of the area inside the car so that player can see whatever they like, such as, all or half mirror, all windscreen, or windscreen with two side windows. If player can adjust in their own way by zooming and moving the screen left or right, it will be very good and satisfy all player using cockpit view.

Just because its been there for a while doesnt mean i have gotten used to it.

Fact is that its like you said, the car is moving the camera which just isn't how it is in real life. and Fact is that it makes it harder to play the game.

imagine driving your car in real life and your head was locked in the direction of the car. Yeh would suck right? and not realistic.

I need to be seeing the direction the car is going, if it starts sliding id be looking forward the direction im going not the way the car is facing.

im sorry but fact is that gt4 and gt5's locked rear camera is crap and really should be changed back or at least given the option to put it back.

it takes a sense of realism out of the game it doesnt help being locked at all.
