Who here doesn't like the camera angles in GT4 and GT5??

I feel your pain. My two problems with in-cockpit view are having an animated wheel+arms and in some cars it feels like I am sitting in the back seat!

I dont mind the animated hands and arms at all. I can easily pretend and get my mind to adapt them as my own, especially in 3d.

However the problem is that in Gt5 the wheel doesnt actually turn the same ammount as you do, so this throws of any sense that anything is making sense becuse you have turned teh wheel almost end to end and the onscreen wheel and hands are barely moving.

Forza 3 is the worst offender for this. It is laughable that forza had a cockpit view only to have such silly stiff animation.

Hmmm. I can understand peoples' complaints in regards to the "double wheel" effect of having the wheel on screen and in hand. It was talked about months ago in the Standard/Premium thread, how it depends on what you consider the TV's "viewpoint" as; if the TV represents your avatar's view of the world, or if it should take into account your wheel setup. Ideally, GT would allow us to have the current Prologue cockpit view, as well as a slightly further-set camera, with no arms or wheel, so that our wheel could be placed right. Of course, to get more realism, we'd need a multi-monitor setup (or, in a perfect world, a 360-degree setup!), but that's just not possible for many people, so they make concessions. I would really enjoy the option to turn GT's HUD off when I'm in cockpit view though; I don't need it when I can see everything on screen.

A proper hood/bonnet cam would do wonders, especially considering Standards' lack of cockpits. So far it looks like it's sort of a roof cam, and that just feels all Mr. Bean to me. Give me a camera set right at the windscreen base, and that'll make Standards' a lot better for me. Bumper cam has always felt too Ridge Racer, especially since it isn't at the outer-most extremities of the car, and the invisible corners of your car means I can't accurately judge dealing with close traffic or tight turns. Chase cam was my preferred choice for years until Prologue simply because it was the default in GT1, and as an added bonus, I could see what my car was doing. It also makes heavy traffic situations more bearable in Prologue; you can see where opponents are around you, even if that isn't the most realistic thing. I found while racing someone the other day that it's tough to control a drift and use the look left/right buttons to make sure you aren't going to smack into the guy that's right beside you in the turn!

I'd use the cockpit view with great enthusiasm IF we could adjust the seat so the view is that of a real car - mostly windshield not dashboard. Otherwise I use the cockpit view with the invisible cockpit ;) I like gauges front and center. Not down in the corners. They are of no usefulness when they can't be seen.

Chase cam is the best view by far.

You get to see the actual beauty of your car as you race, and the audio is much better since you are facing the exhaust.

Cockpit view is just dumb, if it was in all cars it'd be awesome but its not...I prefer to keep organized, I don't want to choose a different view just because I changed cars. also, with cockpit view you are looking at two steering wheels (if you use one IRL) and the steering animations are terrible. (He turns the wheel like 1/4 of the way...)

Chase cam is just awesome. I don't see the point in Cars looking so amazing if you're just going to use bumper cam.

I agree with the first post too, a little freedom would be nice. Maybe a feature like on burnout paradise, racedriver grid, GTA4, Dirt 2, where you can use the right anolog stick to look around your car as you drive.

I am on the hood camera bandwagon. I am not for sure that a good cam will not be included in the game though, some cars seemed to have something similar to a hood cam in GT5P, while others seemed to definitely have a roof cam. If I remember correctly, one of the Subaru Impreza's looked to have the camera positioned on or very near the hood.

I always liked the in-car view. It works nicely for me. I would like an option to turn off the GUI and adjust the seat position so you could see more windshield and closer gauges on the dash, instead of the UI gauges and indicators.

I think most of us don't really even use the other camera angles.

I think the most major ones used are the far view, where you can see the vehicle, and the "hood" view.

I think only a few use cockpit and others.

Playing in cockpit view in Forza 3 got tiring after a few weeks.

I like most of the camera's. My favourite camera is the hood / roof cam (The camera is between the height of the roof and hood). I would much rather a camera that I can adjust myself though.

I tried out the roofcam view in GT5P and it was not as bad as I expected!

The nice part of this roofcam view is that it appears to me to have a wider FOV and I can see the front of my car. that makes it easier to see opponents and also see how close I am to another car in front or on the front-sides.
imho,ymmv
:)

Cockpit and chase view for me. It seems that the chase cam is once again locked in gt5 though. Just looks awkward, looks like you are turning the world lol. I liked the chase view in gt1-3 much better. Maybe there is an option to unlock it.

The chase view being locked to the car seems to make the physics look worse to me. Not that they are, I think it's just an illusion because you don't get to see the car swerve from side to side as it reacts to the physics. Then it give you the on-rails effect... like a mini camera tied to the top of a Scalectrix car.

I'm not too bothered about cockpit view either. It seems weird to me that people with wheels would use it, because... you've got the wheel in front of you, so that's your dashboard (in 3D!), why do you need a second wheel and dashboard on the screen?

Obviously alot of you are expressing how they never use chase cams instead of co-operating with people who are struggling to get a fix chase cam which is unbelievably selfish. This freagin frozin chase cam in GT5 only show how tasteless PD is. Implementing an On/Off function wasn't gonna take 5 minutes of their precious time. OMG no other racing game in the world has our stupid chase cam :S! . Buttom line is, the only way to see how beautifuly the cars made in GT5 is watching them in replay mode..

Yeah I used to use chase cam a bit to admire the cars... but to be honest I can still do that, look at the car then switch back to bumper cam. A lot of games I prefer chase cam, but something about the realism of GT always makes me wanna experience it from the inside.

You just explained it. When racing, use chase cam/interior view, yet if you want to see your car in all it's glory, use replay mode. Simple as.

To me, my favorite view is the interior view when im playing for real. But sometimes i want to drift and do stupid stuff which is only injoyable in chase cam. And BTW i see that you forgot that only 200 cars has interior view and the other 831 cars are as useless as standard.

Yea, we may be able to toggle the fixed chase cam on/off. Everything just happens abruptly with it static like that. A way to describe it, is like not being able move your eyes around inside of your head to see things, instead you have to turn your whole head to look around and see things. Regardless, im still very satisfied with whats coming and these 9 days are not going by fast enough. Its fun to get away from the cockpit and use the chase from time to time, ( I get my daily dosage of cockpit in rush hour traffic to dc everyday lol) We'll see what PD decides to do

That's why I said chase cam/interior view..
And the Standards aren't useless exactly; I won't be using them to drive in on a daily basis, but I won't rule them out completely.

I think that letting the right analog stick rotate the camera is a must: EVERYTHING has it these days, except GT.

This alone is probably my biggest complaint of the game, I just don't get why it's not included, every other racing game I can think of has this, some games have even had it since last gen hardware.

Isn't already the right analog stick occupied with throttle/brakes, or is it the shoulder buttons?
Anyhow, it would be cool to be able to do that, if not for anything else, when you run on a long straight and there isn't much to do.

I'm one of the supporters of fixed chase view but don't see why there could't be an option to have it a little wobbly.

If I were PD I would also have included the hood cam (boot when reverse), and a few more just for the fun and uncovenience of them e.g. left/right front wheel, front spoiler/under the car(!).
Like, why not at least have the option to play in replay-cameras. Practical? No. Fun? Hell yes!

They can't make the right analogue stick rotate the view until Sony make a proper control pad, with proper triggers.

The sensitivity/performance of the DS3's triggers is truly awful and that's before you even take into consideration the terrible shape of the things.

Compared to the 360 pad, the DS3 is massively inferior on the trigger front.

T10 can make the right analogue stick have that functionality because they know the triggers are up to scratch on the 360 pad. Polyphony can't do the same in GT5 because the only useful analogue items on the DS3 are the sticks.

I only notice it when I watch a video where someone is using chase cam, and it seems just a little jerky when they turn or adjust. I think they could smooth the jerkiness out of it a little. Other then that, I never notice it, as I can not race in chase came, I have to use Hood, Roof, or Bumper, in that order.

I agree with you that I like the 360 triggers a bit more, but the D-pad on the PlayStation controllers, far outshines the one on the 360s, which is more important to me. Trying the play Tetris on the 360's D-Pad is a nightmare.
