G.T glad you said how good HDMI is, I am so looking forward to getting my HiDef TV with HDMI.
HDMI is the ultimate connection. It sends all digital video images known, 1080p, 1080i and 720p, as well as all mulit channel digital audio.

The only thing that screws it up is HDCP and manufacutres who don't make the HDMI connections in their sets compliant with everything HDMI can handle.

In reference to the Cell chips, it makes the TV capable of handling multiple high-definition sources at once, for startes. Not including what it can do for de-interlacers, and so on. In other words, Cell chip = better HDTVs.

I will not most likey buy a HiDef TV in Feb or March 06. Who will also sell there current TV to rise some funds for HiDef.

Time to bring this TV back from the grave, well I ordered this TV today.

That should do, TVR. :)

Personally, since I TiVo EVERYTHING, I'm waiting for HDTiVo's prices to come down a bit first. Then I'll start looking seriously. My wife keeps asking about TV's and I keep telling her I want to wait. Am I sick???

Also with a 2 year old and 2 month old in the house, I'm not all that comfortable with them banging on a $4000 TV.

When my mums elderly friend pops her clogs, i'll get one. She just bought one and has written it to me in her will. :)

The old dear is still going strong though. I'll probably have to wait a while.

I'll be buying one later this year, methinks.

Right now, I'm aiming at getting a 34" widescreen CRT. Most likely a Sony, since my research seems to indicate that Sony makes the best CRT HDTVs. It's cheap, not too big so as to dominate my living room, and supports 1080i with awesome image quality.

The problem is coming up with the money.. hehe.

How much does it cost plus is it flat screen lol.

Depends on the model, they seem to range between $1200-1500. Plus another chunk of change for the TV stand to put it on, since it won't fit in my current entertainment center. I can save some money on PS2 cables if I get it very near, or shortly after, the release of the PS3.

Yes, all of Sony's HD CRTs are flat-screen. They're not flat panel, but the screens are flat (with all that fancy non-reflective stuff, so I can stop being driven utterly mad by the lamp in the corner). Kinda like my computer monitor, 'cept bigger. And wider. And ten times the cost.. hehe.

Does anyone ever research pixel reponce timesfor flat panels? I noticed many Tv's have 25ms times and are very crude fro gaming on. Even the expensize Samsung Tv's have 16ms. I have 23in 8ms responce and it noticeably faster than 16ms and 25ms in 60 fps games with less ghosting.

For the last few years pc games only consider 8ms LCD's gaming montintors while 16 and 25 are for everything else. I got my TV for games and pc only and it works fine so far as i have not tested the DVI port but i need to since not all pc games have 16x9 mode.

My beef with LCD is two-fold.. for one, it doesn't have the contrast or overall image quality of a CRT. Second, it's resolution is limited. Nearly all LCD TVs these days have a maximum vertical resolution of only 768 pixels. So any 1080i/p input is downsized to fit. And that just plain sucks.

Same goes for plasmas. Better image quality and contrast than LCD, but you still have the resolution limit. With a CRT, not only am I spending less money, I'm getting better image quality and true 1080-pixel resolution. Can't go wrong.

Non of my old TVs did not have a bad ms rate, and my new HiDef TV has 8ms.

Con you have way too much money lol.
LOL not really man.

I just penny pinch like crazy so I can save up and get all my *toys* muahaha.

I'm in College, so like, right now, I just eat macaroni and chese, chicken, and rice. And I don't have anything more than basic cable and the internet, etc etc...I just save save save for the goodies I want want want...and that SXRD is way at the top of the list.

You're in college and not in massive debt???:odd: Damn, you've broken a trend .

Personally I won't be getting a HDTV yet, the TV I have is more than decent and a higher definition picture just isn't woth a significantly smaller screen or over £600. When they come down in price I'll start to consider moving the the livingroom TV upstairs and getting a HDTV for the livingroom.

lol, I'm in the military (prior active duty) so the US Army pays for a lot of my college education :) It's a luxury not all enjoy, but it didn't come without it's own sacrifices.

My new HDTV was dispatched yesterday, and well I am glad DHL are not the people to deliver it. But City Link are the people to deliver it.

Had a problem with DHL in the past? They were very fast with my 360. I paid for 5 working day delivery and got it in 3 over the weekend. Did leave it with my neighbour as I was out that morning though (I wasn't expecting it so soon).

Anyway, for a grand you could get a 46" HD ready tv, if you find a good deal. I would'nt get a plasma because of screen burn. So I got a Samsung DLP. Paid a bit too much for it really as I got it from a high street store and not online.
Still it'll do for the next 4 years or so. I'm not expecting the price of 1080p tv's (this is in the UK mind) to be lower than £2000 until 2008 at the earliest. Still, the way HD tv's have been selling recently it may come sooner than later!

Would Sky HD tempt you into buying before May. Also Sky HD subs cost £9.99 plus a Sky HD box will cost £240, but I am glad my TV arrived on Tuesday.

At the moment I do not get a good reception through the cable that leads up to my bedroom, which allows me to watch Sky upstairs on my new TV. But it must be the cables linked up to the antenna, or it must be the antenna.

But once Sky HD is finally here in May, I should get better reception for SD channels not on Sky HD. While getting lust reception on Sky HD, one more thing I watched samples of Sky HD through my PC while being linked up to my TV.

And well it looks lush, same goes for Lost Season 2 in HD Slack. Oh and another thing I get some photos of my new TV at the weekend guys.

Sky HD is just too pricery for me. Considering that I'm saving up for the PS3 I can't afford £30+ on Sky plus the cost of the box. Add to that the fact I rarely watch Sky at the moment (I'm not a footie fan) it's uneeded expense.
Still, I reckon by 2010 there'll be HD broadcasts on digital tv and a cheap HD box will be available by then. I can wait.

See that TV i posted up there. It's history. Just this morning i turned it on and got some strange vertical lines across the screen. Checked the cables, but still the same problem. It's the same thing when your PC graphics card starts to go, you get these coloured lines across the screen, that's exactly what's happened with my TV. Guess that's the risk in buying a HDTV early.

Good thing i have a 3 year warranty so i'll just have this one replaced. Bad thing, now i have to watch the world cup on my regular old TV.:grumpy:

What brand was it? I'm still waiting for mid-sized cell-chipped 1080p LCD sets to arrive .

I bought mine this year just for games. Also for movies but mainly for games. Looked so awesome when I rented the xbox360 and played Kameo. So far that is the best game I have ever seen in HD. GT4 looks very good too in 1080i. Most of my other games look a lot better too but I wont really be able to appreciate my TV until I but a 360 within a few months before Forza 2 comes out.
This is the HDTV I bought 27" Sony FD Trinitron Wega Hi-Scan KV-27HS420
Just make sure you get the component cables to truly appreciate the quality. You dont need the Monster name brand.

LOL @ component cables. CB, your TV doesn't have HDMI?

I think he was referring to using component cables in lieu of the standard yellow composite cable. Also, the PS2 and Xbox/360 can't output HDMI. So yes, there would be a noticable improvement.

HDMI isn't the end-all, be-all of HD content. Read the reviews of Samsung's Blu-Ray player for that.. image quality is drastically improved if you use component instead of HDMI. That's a problem with the player, though.. other systems will probably end up with much better HDMI output.

As for the PS3.. it'll be trial-and-error. Try 'em both and see which looks better.

Incidentally, I've changed my mind on a TV from what I said back in February. I want bigger. :) So I'll be saving up even longer and getting a 1080p DLP rear-projection TV, minimum 50", preferably bigger.. whatever my budget will allow for when I finally take the plunge.
