From this month's Automobile:

A 4 page article, and not one mention of the 9-5? Losing your touch, Doug.

I'm impressed, but I'm also somewhat baffled about how this is article-worthy. But if he can make a career of it, more power to him.

I've heard mention of this article floating around, and it's great! Congrats on the high-profile recognition, Doug! :) I'll have to pick up this issue.

NICE.

No mention of GTP, either. Also, I never realized he was that young. Good for him though, certainly better than a joke letter on the back page of Car and Driver!

I may be mistaken Doug for someone else now, but wasn't his GTP name M5POWER? What ever happened to him anyway?

I believe Douglas became "busy" with life, so his visits here became less and less frequent until that one week when the whole board seemed to be a bit testy. I haven't seen or heard from him sense. I'm sure that he's been trying to keep up with his grades, doing the college experience stuff, and obviously taking pictures.

He quit GTPlanet so that he could stalk supercars full-time.

Yeah, you beat me to it..
Who's this M5Power? A stalker.

A bit harsh maybe, but following cars to take pics of them and so on isn't really my thing..

No mention of GTP, either.

He doesn't like us now because we're big meany heads and made him and all his friends go away because it wasn't fun here any more.

And he wasn't thrilled on my explanation of proper photography either, and rather harsh criticism of some of his pictures.

Needless to say, I am somewhat baffled how this is article worthy, though reading parts of it has answered why -

Article on Doug
"You're not going to see anything sitting still," he say, goosing the throttle.

Clearly an editor in need. The article reminds me a bit of our local school paper writers struggling to sound clever.

Still, impressive a hobby I never put much thought into has reached this level.

Me too, I thought he was in his 30s maybe.

He was looking for a car to buy a couple years ago as a result of his high school graduation, so he would have a car at college...

People thought he was in his 30's during his great faking back a few years ago, when he claimed to have kids.

The main feature is titled "Dream Big", and is all about new super exotics and whatnot, and Doug's passion for cars like that is a perfect fit for this issue.

I wonder how that conversation with Jean Jennings went...

Congrats, but I had no idea he tried to stay in 1 post for an hour everyday, or that he didn't have an actual job....Kind of sad, really. :indiff:

Who needs a job during school when you can just walk right into the Ferrari dealer and get a job for the summer like it's Wal-Mart?

Not quite that old, but for some reason I thought he was within a year of me. Looking back, I suppose I should have thought otherwise.

Would be nice to hear from Douglas again here on GTP, I think we could all use the humor again.

I remember about when he posted the valet one featured in the magazine in DYSAGT, a huge debate broke out over how awful the Ferrari 348 was. Good times.

Though I was very surprised to learn he was only a year older than me. I guessed he was in his mid 20s.

He's in college as a economics/finance major. That doesn't exactly take up much time. And who needs a job when all your bills are paid for? I sort of envy that situation, but I'm not sure I want to revisit college.

Hate to be harsh, but the words "get a life" come to my mind here...

For some reason Doug took a leave of absence after disagreeing with me over the nature of diesel engines in personal transport.

This aside, the article is quite concerning - it seems to laud excessive, reckless driving for the end product of... well... being nerdy. I have no problem with being nerdy - hell, I am one - but I'd struggle to justify repeated acts of law-breaking in the pursuit of my nerdiness...
