no mention of the sl300 you should ban yourself.

Nope. The Miura and DB5 are on an echelon many, many levels above the 300SL. But still. The patent wagen beats 'em all. Now that's old.

thatr depends on who you talk to. Someone who knows jack about cars and history might agree with you, while car nuts who know what they are talking about would gladly slap you in the face for talking crazy !

The sl 300 was the fastest production car in 1955 and the most beautiful. It won a bunch of trophies and was driven by the top celebrities. It is right up there with the aston and miura nd if going by the price tag its trumps both.

Hey punkrock no need to take it serious u started a joke I carried it on and even twin turbo tagged along with it.

PR, Don't ban me!!
I was only thinking of cars I've owned, or the family owned, or that I got to drive.
The 300SL, The Muira, and DB5 are awesome choice.
How come you didn't mention the Pantera, or the Mangusta?
Don't be "hatin" on the American Exotics.:D

Not many appreciate the Riv. Much cooler than the Impala in my humble opinion.

I also have a soft spot for the "stacked headlights" Fords, the 66-67 Galaxie and Fairlane.

That's a Fairlane. The Galaxie was abit more "chiseled".

28 posts and not a single mention for the Lamborghini Miura, or the Aston Martin DB5? I should ban you all.

I have that model in my collection, 1:18 scale. 👍
Sits on the bottom shelf with my crappy cars.

I'm not denying the 300SL's amazingness, It's just that IMHO, the DB5 and Miura look soo much better.

VIPFREAK, got any pics of the Galaxie?

Here's a neat old car:D:

Well, It's a truck. Wait. What truck?? I don't see a truck at all.

Not that I know of at the moment, they are probably in storage or something with dust on top. :guilty:

Here's a quick google search though... I believe he didn't have a red interior though.

My dad had a 63' Galaxie 500 with the 427 in it. :) I never got to experience it. :grumpy:

Was it the 2 door 500 XL - one of the nicest looking American cars ever.

It was a 2 dr. alright but I don't think the XL... Didn't those have different roof lines? Anyway, I didn't really think nicest car at first but it does look a lot like an Impala if you know what I mean. I'd definitely rather have a Galaxie over the Impala though. 👍

I got him a model of his car even though it wasn't black it was a really dark blue and he said it looked exactly like his did. :D

...how much did they weigh and how much power did they have? And whats their top speed?

Mercedes: 646 HP (Supercharged 5.6-liter straight-8 burning alcohol), 1650 pounds, timed at 193 MPH (311 KPH) at Spa-Francorchamps in 1937.

Auto Union: 580 HP (Supercharged 6.0-liter V16 burning alcohol), 1650 pounds. Auto Union claimed it would hit 203 MPH (327 KPH) if given enough room.

With those skinny tires, and no aerodynamic downforce at all, they were actually pretty streamlined, and could hit very high speeds on the long tracks. Obviously, their handling was primitive compared to modern cars. I have no idea what sort of G-forces they could develop in turns, but it couldn't have been much...

Woah 640hp in 1937. Hell why arent our current race cars running in the thousands.
A Top Fuel dragger makes about 7,500 horsepower from about 8 litres, burning 85% nitromethane / 15% alcohol.

The 1987 Honda Formula 1 engine put out 994 HP from just 1.5 turbocharged liters on gasoline.

Yeah? So these are making about 8 times the power from about 6 times the displacement. Not bad, nitromethane notwithstanding.

I'm not saying they're the only worthy engines. I'm just saying that modern race engines are well into the thousands of horsepower in reply to Youg_Warrior's post.

Eh, BMW used to make 1100hp out of a stock block turbo four cylinder (look up the infamous "Blackjack" BMW-Brabham) but they still had to contend with 800hp N/A Ferrari flat-twelves eating them up.

Formula One is Formula One is Formula One. Yes, in the turbo era tiny little engines were making 900 odd horsepower. Now in the 3.0L V10 era we're still making 900 odd horsepower.

And I bet that in a few years the 2.4L V8's will make 900 odd horsepower once a few hundred million dollars have been poured into development.

Honestly, all I wish they'd change about F1 is these three things.

#1 - Wide Tracks. C'mon, the narrow tracks on these cars look goofy with the longer noses and wheelbases.

#2 - Slicks. You want to make tires cost less AND last longer, give them back the slicks, not to mention the increased grip will give the drivers more wiggle room to pass with.

#3 - Chicanes. Get rid of'em unless they were there before Senna's death. That means flat out into Parabolica. Flat out around San Marino. And, as an addendum, PUT THE STRAIGHTAWAYS BACK ON HOCKENHEIM!

Hell I want manufactures to be able to choose any type of engine they want to propel their car with in reason.

Its all about safety, and I'm not talking about the drivers.

Think about this: Other than drag racing, where the spectators are gathered at the starting line where the cars are stationary, have you noticed that a "speed limit" seems to be in effect, and that limit is about 220 MPH (350 KPH)?

Why 220? Because any faster than that, and the potential for getting airborne high enough to clear spectator-protecting fences is just too great. That's why HP is restricted, and tight aerodynamic downforce limits are set. There is such a thing as "too fast". Too fast equals too deadly. If a car ever gets over the fence at Indy and rips into the crowd, 500 people could die. That's why, for instance, Ari Luyendyk's 237 MPH lap record will never be beaten. That was just too scary. The IRL will continually change the rules to hold the speeds down, and Indy cars will never go that fast again.

All other racing bodies must do the same. Look how much slower NASCAR racers are now than they used to be. The incredible speeds they attained in the old days was just too dangerous. Can you say "restrictor plate"?

All the racing bodies do the same. Think of it as a "350 KPH safety speed limit". Any faster than that, and you're pushing your luck too hard.
