I myself am slightly curious as to why the members in this forum who learned English as a second language seem to be more proficient than the majority of English natives
Chalk it up to laziness? We all use a fair amount of slang specific to our native languages, but you won't notice this with the members who call English their secondary language, since they've only learnt it "properly". Factor in English-speaking countries' continued text-speak use (I've witnessed police, doctors, and professors all use it), and it's not that surprising, really. Someone who doesn't know the language will be more interested in getting their point across precisely, those that know it know how to be lazy about it too, sadly
