Why are there so many car models?

I'll take a stab at this, no I don't think it is a little much, I think it is a whole lot too much! But I guess that is one way to advertise that you have over a 1000 different cars in your game. I suppose there is plenty for everyone, it is what it is.

Exactly which standards are not "worthy" of proper modeling, and in exactly who's opinion??

I do expect the current crop of standards(as they exist now) to be gone in future titles as higher quality is required as the hardware improves(and as gamers whine like they do so well - overall, not pointing any fingers of course). But sadly some cars that are loved by many - and more that are very well loved by a few - will probably be lost forever due to this, since they can't create updated versions of them all.

This. A lot of cars are worth playing with. I'd say at least 60% are worth a drive around the track but thats just my opinion. I could do without 20 dupes and keep it to 3 different models of the same style car such as the Miata.

I believe that 1000 cars was the first reason why they needed 5 years to complete the game, even if you play 10 years never buy all. Why many models of Nissan, honda etc.. maybe beacuse were made in japan, in Europe we have a lot of wonderful veichles, but kaza is japanese gay, that's the life.

I hope you meant guy, not gay, as insulting someone by calling them gay can be offensive to homosexuals. Also, just a note, please try to improve your spelling, it's not terrible, but could be improved. :)

Marketing.

Over 1000 Cars Sounds much better than about 190 Cars. If you dont count Standard and duplicate cars.

This. It's manipulation of numbers to basically lie to consumers without technically lying to them. They can put work into a single car model and, with a minimum of effort, make it into a short list of cars to pad their numbers. They also like to include rebadges; cars that are really the same but appear under different makes and models. I once had two of these next to each other in the used car dealership, and though the brands were different you could clearly tell that they were otherwise the exact same thing. (I forget what they were, though, which bugs me because I'd love to name specifics.)

It's also like how they counted a bunch of last-gen car models instead of just boasting the new GT5 models, because "over a thousand" sounds better than "over two-hundred".
