Why can't we close our own threads?

That functionality is not currently provided by the forum software platform used here.

Prior to GTP12, you could lock your own thread if you were a premium member.

You can still close your own thread but you need the power of a mod.

Isn't asking a mod to close your thread, almost the same as closing it yourself?
