why did PD map the stars?

No, to be honest I don't care too much about livery editor.
GT has some issues that I can live with, but to me, the sounds are too important part of a racing/driving simulator.
I feel GT like almost a perfect work ruined by those boring sounds, it's like eating a beautiful cake with terrible taste.

Do you want it to sound like you are inside the car, or outside the car?

why would a fake sky be better? what would we gain by having just a random mess of dots on the sky?

why make anything realistic?

Stars relate to both lighting and physics, which is right up PD's alley.

No one questioned the Chinese when they first mapped the stars over 2 thousand years ago.

Because they want something to distract you from the headlights not working on the AI cars.

IMO GT5 became the new "BASE" for GT titles going forward. In otherwords for GT7 they'll simply take the cars from 5 & 6 add another 200, enhance them some more; add five more tracks, beef up the whole game to PS4 specs and call it GT7. They are attempting to make the "environment" as realistic as possible, hence the star. They can then carry it forward to successive GT titles.

That's asking way to much... maybe in a 10 - 15 years, when PD decide its worth doing

Does sound awesome though

the star mapping, among other things, have left me scratching my head considering the game still has other issues that need to be dealt with. oh well, maybe GT7.

honestly though, Drive Club can't get here soon enough. I really hope it turns out to be an amazing game.

You know the saying, millionaires don't believe in astrology billionaires do.

Kaz is billionaire.

i read a kaz interview saying they created the star map so the games environment feels more realistic.

but i doubt they took into account the moons gravitational forces. I dont feel it at all when driving on the carousel.

Its the same with real life, the stars don't need to be there, but they are always there for us to gaze upon. The stars in real life are useless as well, but it would be a very boring sky without them.

Tell that to a sailor. ;)

Stars are not useless at all, they can help you to guide through the night if you are lost in the middle of the sea or if somehow your boat sank or if your devices work wrong. It also can help you in the middle of the woods, jungle, desert...etc.

They are also there to inspire us, to ask for wishes...oh yes the Moon, without the Moon this world probably won´t be as it is now.
The Sun...and so on...

Shall I go on? :D

I think we all know that the stars were/are handy for navigational purposes.
Now if the stars in GT were to help guide you to the finish line or to the pit lane, i wouldnt have created this thread.

"Simulate Everything"

It is a design direction.

If we see a shooting star during a race do we get a wish?

If your playing on Christmas Eve, keep watching those starry skies while you race, you may see a little red fat man in a sleigh. :D

And maybe the wrong one. This looks mainly like a graphics direction, why would you do that on a PS3 at this late stage?

Should have saved this for the PS4, but then they wouldn't have been able to show that slide....

I didn't know 2D trees existed in real-life.

(Note: I actually don't care about them).

The moon is there. You just gotta find it at the right time at the right time of day. Also the moon may show up directly above the track, so it would be difficult to even find a way to catch a glimpse of the moon at all.

Dude I am relaxed. But who really wants to play a test bed? I'd rather play a solid game. You make it sound like being a $60 beta tester is a good thing.

Is this a placeholder universe?
No, that wasn't what I meant. What I meant was this is actually being a test to perfect for PS4, but I what you mean of wanting soild game.

And dem placeholders. :P

Why because Kaz is losing the plot in his old age obviously, As much as we all love the guy for creating the franchise I think all the fame and fortune from it all is starting to go to his head abit, What needs to happen is for him to come into the pits and let someone else take over someone who knows more about the actual inner workings of a car like a mechanic for example if we had that the game would have as many tuning options as there is stars in the night sky.

It is kind of silly to have the actual sky accurately recreated. Just put some pretty stars in the sky and it would be plenty for the few times anyone's going to glance at it while they're racing.

Kaz can, and does as he pleases ofcourse. And making the game more realistic is the obvious goal.
But spending all that effort for seemingly useless things kind of annoys me. doesnt matter though.

and how realistic is it....doubt any astronomers are gonna buy this game. They couldve easily just added dots here and there and no one would care. No one cares either way. Its got nothing to do with driving.

Still its a small detail...i love the game, and i want to see it improve interms of its actual purpose......driving.
GT6 IS a major improvement over GT5, but theres still much to be tweaked and fixed.

Can we stop correlating the time/effort of implementing the stars to that of sounds or AI? Thats like comparing a coloring book to a Picasso. "Why spend time making constellations when you couldve fixed AI &sounds?" I don't know, why spend time washing your hands when you can raise your kids?
