plain and simple; some like 'danger' and having the feeling they are actually the ones doing the job and not just turning a virtual wheel with no input what so ever. some want to be fast what ever the cost; what ever the 'cheat' some just want realisme and use their own skills....



either you use them and are fine with it and dont go on lobbies without asssists
either you dont use them and you go to lobbies that will correspond to your type of racing.


stop being jerks and let people that think it is better and more sport to drive by themselves do as they like. no one forces you to join their lobbies. stay away if you cant handle it !


and for people who do want to try abs off ; dont forget in real life cars have a 80% front brake bias and 20% rear in general ( more or lesse depending the car but generally around that ) ; that will greatly help you if you setup your brakes correctly. ;)


most lobbies use that use assists ; have also got boost on... . how much more assistance do you need to stay with the pack ? .....
 
I'd turn ABS off completely if it wasn't for my oafish hands and a lack of sensitivity with L2

I still find it a little surprising that people who can manage the throttle with R2 have trouble controlling the brake with L2. For me I have a lot of trouble with steering accurately while braking on the DS3, but actually being accurate with the brake itself seems really easy. On the other hand, I can't reliably put the accelerator at anything between 50% and 100% for the life of me.

I guess it's just everyone's brain and hands working differently.
 
I personally drive with all aids off because I simply love trying to push any car to the limits of my ability. I take any car out on the nurb and try to make a whole lap without spinning out; sometimes if I want a little more excitement I try to get a fast lap time. But I'm no " Ban on all aids " elitist. People can play the game how ever suits them, I mean the game gives you the option from the get go. The problem is when you go online, 98% of the lobbies have a ban on all aids excluding abs. So for some people it may be difficult to find a lobby that allows it. And most of the people that make these lobbies thinks is more "realistic" and if you can't drive without then you're a sh** driver....trust me, I always here them taking about it in lobbies its ridiculous. I've personally never driven a car in real life(though I'm 19) that's part of the reason why I played GT games over the years, but I take peoples word for it here on this thread about how cars behave with or without aids in real life. You guys are teaching me 👍
 
This has probably been answered/discussed/argued before, but why do so many people ignore the REAL LIFE driving aids available in the real version of cars they race in GT, citing "realism"?

Almost all current GT and LMP cars feature real life traction control yet people usually refuse to allow it use in online races. Current GT3 cars also have ABS, yet again its use is usually prohibited

A car like the Deltawing was designed from the start to use traction control and relied on it heavily after the computer controlled torque vectoring differential proved troublesome under race conditions.

And finally almost all modern road cars use a combination of abs, traction control and dynamic stability (in some states here in Australia is it now required in all new cars sold) so why are people so anti them in a game??
Is it really that hard to understand? It's personal preference. People play GT6 in a way that's challenging and fun for them. I dislike all aids as I think it detracts from the challenge and makes the car hard to "feel", others do what they do for their own reasons. As for as what's faster or slower in a skilled pilots hand, SRF cuts seconds from lap times, Active Steering cuts tenths, ABS tenths, everything else slows you down. In an average or less pilot's hands, some aids may help them be more consistent and as a result faster because they make less mistakes.

I don't use driving assists on cars that weren't built with them. An example being the 1986 RUF BTR.

When I drive my 15th Anniversary Audi R18, I always use Traction Control set to 2, along with ABS set at 1. It's not too strong, but it's not too soft and it makes the car a dream to drive.
 
This is a great topic, and I am glad the OP brought it up, also some great supporting posts.

That said, the majority of people who are against the use of driving aids don't have any real-world experience to draw their opinions from. Part of my job is driving new cars from a majority of manufacturers. I am familiar with the traction control and dynamic stability modes used in many new cars and obviously the ABS systems in all new cars. Those who just drive their own car each day simply don't have the resources on hand to draw comparisons and opinions. Sorry, not hating but it is just the way it is.

In each of the high performance cars we test, when pushed near the limits they are very difficult to drive safely without those aids. You can turn them off and enjoy a much quicker and more raw experience but certainly not on the street.

GT has not been able to simulate the way a car reacts without those aids both in near-limits of adhesion and also in recovery techniques. Applying throttle in many cars in the game is like turning on a light switch which is not what you get in the real-world. I know that the seat of the pants feel in real-world driving cant be replicated in a game, but they can certainly simulate weight transfer and IMO the way cars break loose in these games is much too rapid and violent.

So, I believe the best compromise between an enjoyable gaming experience and somewhat true-to-life driving game, is use a little bit of traction control, some ABS, and in cars that are way too tail-loose like the flawed MR cars, some ASM is ok. SRF and Active steering is not realistic so I don't use them.

I don't agree with the ban on aids and I support any gamer who wants to use them to filter out the incorrect physics of many of the cars in the game.

The people who criticize other people driving with aids on are just elitists that think they are gods at driving cars. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with using aids at all. You might want to gradually keep lowering them as you get better at controlling cars but again, it's your choice.
 
Doesn't matter to me either way but I usually allow the aids and leave it up to the individual...in most real life race series cars or bikes some racers use TC and the likes so I figure the same for any room I create in the name of real life racing...
 
I don't use the driving aids because I'm faster without them, and they mess me up more often than they help.

I have a looser driving style than most, I like to throw cars into the corner hard and floor it on the exit and driving aids don't allow me to do that.
 
For what it is worth, we can only drive our own cars (virtually and in real life) the way we want.

Worrying about another persons choice is going to be a thankless task.

In the game no aids can be faster, as in real life. The only issue is that in real life you have inertia and momentum that you can 'feel' the game can't create this sensation which is how you actually understand what is going on. Are the tires spinning up, is the LSD shifting the torque, has the ABS triggered, how fast is the back-end coming round etc etc Driving is instinctive when on the limit.

I don't mind the assists in the game, I choose rooms without them usually but far from it for me to tell everyone else how they should play. My competition is against myself as that's the only thing I can directly control and change.
