Why do people like this car

Because it's 4WD system is far superior, and it's a twin turbo inline six, which means easy upgradability and huge horsepower.

Well the fact that you can have a AWD car a RWD car or a FWD car depending on what you want and it's easily attainable, it's a sturdy inline 6 engine that revs high which means it's a good road racing car, and it's styling is very different from other cars in it's time, since it debuted to since it's end...

cause it looks good to some people, its a proven track car, good awd system, and the engine can make a lot of power. it also has good aftermarket suppport. its a fast car in the straights, and on the track.

Well considering you have AWD to start with........you can get ridda the frontal drivetrain assembly and make it RWD like the Skyline in 2f2f, and in theory you can do the same to the back, thought I wouldn't know why...but it's possible..

I used to have a picture of a Eclipse GSX doin a nice tire heatup in the water with it's rear wheels....quite odd, cool none the less

The evo is an example of ff based 4wd... technically all you need is a control system and you can have a drivetrain system that is rear, front, or 4 wheel drive at any time...

well, its fast, it looks good, but what I LOVE about the skyline, is that it may be the most tuneable car in the planet. the fact that you can triple the hp before you break parts on it says volumes about the cars capacity. 'sides, the tunning isnt limited to the engine, drivetrain and suspension can be ridiculously altered (and easily too) thanks to the HUGE aftermarket behind it. begining with one of the fastest cars on earth, posibly one of the best platforms ever, intelligent 4wd, racetrack suspension, highrevving turbo engine (turbo = easy modding) you can end up having 700 hp without having to reinforce the engine internally. there are REALLY few cars that can claim that. if you ask me, the nissan skyline is one of the best platform ever, and one of the best sports car ever. and the fact that it was there so long ago and that now it is revolutionizing the way the entire world sees a sports car, speak volumes also.

I dont know nothing about the damned car, I know little about its hitroy, specs, and the such. what I said is what I feel for it.

Wait a second, did he say that u can change the DRIVETRAIN?
From AWD to RWD or FWD??

Well I dunno about the R34, but I think its the same as the new one (G35 Coupe/Sedan). The new skyline (G35 coupe/sedan) has an active drivetrain control system. It depends on where your driving, but the systems balances power between the front and rear wheels. like if your going up hill, it spreads the power out evenly. IF you going and keeping at a high speed, 100% of the power is transfered to the rear wheels. In Ice, the front gets 75% and the rear gets 25%(I think, or is it the onther way around...). Its unbelieveable what this AWD systme can do for handeling.

And why is the car so great?:
1. RB26DETT. one of the greatest engines ever made in my opinion
2. Stock Carbon Fiber Parts. The carbon fiber parts that come on an R34 is on an almost endless list, the hood, lip spoiler, wing, mirrors, rear bumper, side skirts are all carbon fiber just to name a few.
3. The looks! I mean damn, it dont get more aggressive than an R34.
4. AWD. One of the most advanced AWD systems ever created.
5. PARTS! There are almost as many parts for skylines as there are parts for civics (but these parts ACTUALLY WORK! :D )
6. Power. Just sheer power......
7. Proven. Almost all the major racing companies in Japan use the skyline platform for their race cars.

Well you get the idea, the list just goes on and on ;)

the g35 does not have a drivetrain control system at all. All of them currently are RWD, however, the 2004 sedans will have full time AWD. But mixx kinda described it alright, although, it doesnt have a set percentage for certain situations, it varies the torque split depending on how much slippage is occuring at the moment. So, when you launch, some torque will be sent to the front wheels so you dont just spin, once you get going however, and you dont have any traction problems, it goes back to being RWD, until of course more slippage occurs.

EDIT - Mind you, when I say full time AWD for the G35 sedans, I am not talking about the ATESSA AWD that the GTRs have. The AWD that the G35 will be getting (according to what little has been released) will only be a normal AWD system.

But why do the new Skylines not even come close in performance? And why did they get rid of the RB engine series. I think if they kept making the actual "GT-R" It would do really good.

Well one of the reasons I'm sure was because car companies like to leave people asking why. I'm sure there's a reason out there, but it also makes you want to wonder what they have up their sleeves for the next batch of nissan supercars

Well, technically, the "Skylines" now aren't really Skylines like the R34s or the other Rs. One problem that I heard was that the Japanese Emissions tightened, so Nissan had to discontinue the engine and replace it with a 3.5L V6 engine in order to pass smog. The major difference between a Skyline R34 and the Skyline now is that there is no 4WD system and instead of having a TT I6, there is a NA V6, most likely because of the American market, making it easier for the company to make one engine that fits everywhere.

Some of the stuff I said may not be correct, but it's how I see it.

Thio is right. Another thing to consider is the fact that not all skylines are 280hp AWD RB26DETT monsters. There are 2.5l NA aspirated RWD R34s too. As time goes by, Im sure theyre release a GTR version when they see fit. And as time goes by, the G35 will grow more into what we see as a skyline, but remember, in japan, the skyline is much like the mustang. Some are fast, some arent, some are expensive, some arent. Every car has a range, we just dont always see it, cuz those at the bottom of the range are eclipsed by those at the top :-)

The G35 will have the ATESSA AWD system. It works with some electromagnetic clutch or something. Anyway, it's continuously variable between 0 front/100 rear and 50 front/50 rear, RWD characteristics with AWD whatever, blah blah blah.

All the AWD G35s will be automatics, too, iirc.

Not that I dont believe you bill, but would you mind showing a link? My understanding could have very easily been wrong, and it would delight me to have proof that the G35 will be getting the ATESSA. My dad has one and I may possibly be getting one in the future.

I could find a link to an article i guess, but i read it on another forum.

Yes, I did compare the skyline to the mustang. It has a cheap sporty version that suits many purposes and is quite fun to drive, all the way up to an expensive version that competes with the vette and (if youre into tuning) the viper. The skyline starts out as a basic sports sedan with around 200 hp (probably less) and as it moves up the range, it loses 2 doors, gain one turbo, then a second, and also goes up in price. So yes, in that respect, it is quite easy to compare it to a mustang.
