Why do people want 0/0/0 cars

No cars are really valuable considering you can have a collection of tickets that can be duped forever.

You do realise "trading" isn't an official mechanic of the game, right?

Does that matter? Players make the game. If people want to trade and they trade, there is trading. It doesn't matter if it's official or not. Conversely had trading been implemented by PD, and everyone just duped instead, there would be nothing wrong with that.

Trading might not be part of the game, but buying GT5 solely to trade cars and never drive them is just as legitimate as playing A-Spec.

You do realise "trading" isn't an official mechanic of the game, right? Lots of people have turned the gifting system into one and some put a scary amount of time and effort into it, but it's not part of the game.

You might want to tell the people at GTPlanet that. There's a whole section on "trading". If trading/gifting (ya, its the same thing think about it) isn't an "official" mechanic, then why can you trade pretty much everything within the game?? From helmets to full courses??

I also don't see what people's problem is? If someone wants to do something within a game, its up to them to do so! We're not talking about something that affects other people, its a solely that persons decision. We're talking about making to most out of what you paid money for (the game).

I have just finished collecting every standard car in 0/0/0, took months. Why? Just nice to have a collection of sorts I guess, I play another account where I am collecting all the green prize car tickets, just something to pass the time for me.

I guess you don't trade much.

Sure they don't hold monetary value but others could see it as valuable.

There are many cars that are hard to come by, having something rare and low miles makes trading a little more interesting.

I fully admit, in the pre $1 million credit cap days, I traded for basically all of my Le Mans/Group C race cars, it was a great method to get good cars, but unfortunately also the reason we have idiots in X1s driving around without a clue how to use them. (I ended up getting stuck with an X1 myself when I couldn't trade the car off before the trade cap came down.. I never use the thing)

When I buy a car, I make sure I have enough to buy 3 of them. One to tune, one to keep stock and one to collect. If I really like the car and want to max it out with all the parts that can't be removed, I buy a fourth one.

Remember the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California from Ferris Buehler's Day Off? Factory paint and zero miles on the ODO. That car right there is worth a boat load. Most of them are valued around 11 to 12 million in great condition with mileage. It's the fact that the car has never been driven that gives it all the value. Only a car enthusiast knows that. This is much more than a video game to some people.

“one of GT’s strengths of including so many 'ordinary' cars that people have actually owned. No other driving game gives so many people such a personal connection through including the cars we actually drive.”

True. I drive them all. I have 1300 cars so far a fair few are duplicates. I drove 5 days last week for an average of 4 hours a day and checking the UCD after every five races only one car, the Range Rover, turned up that I didn't have. So I bought it and drove it. Frankly I think I'm damn close to having at least one of every car, but not that bothered if I never get there.

Do you know what I mean by official mechanic? Just because people manage to do something in the game that doesn't mean that's how PD intended it. Trading is not the safe as gifiting, if someone said to me they were gifting me something I wouldn't expect to give anything back. In a trade, I would. Yes Player A gifting player B a car and then vice versa works like a trade, but it's not. It's two gifts.

Also the word 'trade' insinuates that you lose something to gain something else. With everyone duping cars and everything else under the sun it's not trading, because you don't lose what you send.

PD clearly never intended the gift system to be used in this way. They intended it for friends to send cars to other friends, losing the car in the process. People exploited it so they had to add several limits to the system.

There is no problem, we just don't understand the reasons for what we see as extreme OCD activities.

I kind of agree with you on this. On the other hand, some would look at gifting as a never-ending trade, you give someone a gift (say for a birthday), they give you one in return for yours. So, I would say gifting and trading is a bit of a grey area.

I know this isn't what PD intended, but it works. If they didn't want us sending cars back and forth they wouldn't have let us do it at all. If it wasn't for trading, what would be the purpose of gifting? Anyone can gain the cars they need to progress through the game just by playing and winning events. Why would someone need to send someone a car?

I'd have to partially agree with you on this one too with one exception, even though some people dup cars (I haven't), they still lose a car, it may be a dup of a car, but its still a car gone from their garage.

I agree with you on this one, I think? Are you talking about not intending the use of trading or duping? I don't believe the topic of duplicating cars is in discussion. This ones getting a little off topic.

There is no problem, we just don't understand the reasons for what we see as extreme OCD activities.

I know this one isn't directed at me but I'll still shed some light on it. Collecting something, anything, doesn't constitute OCD! Are you saying that everyone that has a hobby of collecting suffers from OCD?

I don't get the OCD comments either. As I said before, I only started collecting cars in GT5 because I couldn't find anything better to do in the game, so I used it as a way to play GT5 more. That's it. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I never cared about owning every car in previous GTs or any other racing game for that matter.

Collectings the cars is normal, needing to have them all with 0 on three stats just because it's cleaner/neater is an OCD tendency. Wanting them in every colour is very OCD like.

Really now. Are you a doctor or a shrink? What proof do you have to base these findings on? I collect 0/0/0 cars so I guess according to you and the other wanna be doctors and know it alls, I have OCD. Give me a break, you couldn't be more wrong. Tired of you guys trying to belittle people just because they play this game differently than you do. Stop trying to be a doctor, you don't even have a clue.

Lol, I was about to leave this one alone, but I saw your post. How is wanting things in different colours, OCD like?? I'm starting to think you, and some other people, don't even know what OCD is!

Wanting to collect something (in a game) doesn't constitute as OCD. It could be obsessive, but definitely no compulsive.

Also, I'm still trying to wrap my head around this "cleaner/neater" thing. Only a small portion of people who suffer from this illness have this tendency. By your logic, by me wanting to have a "clean/neater" post, does that make me have this illness? Calling someone out on an illness is very rude and disrespectful. Do you make fun of the handicap too??

Wanting 0/0/0 cars in a game is a valid hobby. Its not due to some illness.

Thats ironic that you say that because I am in fact handicapped. Lets hope he doesn't go that far.

I haven't hot a clue why they do it.
Maybe there's not much else to do for them.

Dunno.

I have all the cars in the game with miles on them, now I collect 0/0 cars just a way to extend the game I still race and enjoy both collecting and racing and I don't criticise people for the way they like to play the game!

Honestly, why are those opposed so intent on sabotaging the enjoyment of collecting 0/0/0 cars?
Why does it matter to you if I have a fully tuned ///M3 to tool around in and have an interest to collect every ///M3 color in pristine condition? It's my desire and enjoyment in seeing them in my garage, and that's the only damn thing that matters.
If you don't like it, or agree with it, don't participate. No one is forcing you collect 0/0/0 cars, or asking you to justify why you won't.
I spent MY money that I earned by working to purchase this game, and will enjoy in any manner that I choose. Trying to unjustify this choice through debate is almost sheer insanity.

Easy guy. The OP just wants to try to understand you, that's all.

Don't be grouchy about it.

It wasn't directed towards the OP, it was directed to those I referred to in my opening sentence. Try to keep up fella. :sly: 👍

Your right lol. People are going crazy over a question on why people collect 0/0/0

Is he? What does he want for them?

Edit he's after tickets.

If you can't beat them, join them!

This quote reminds me of Egypt when the troops couldn't take down the citizens.

Actually I had one car that I already had, but the one I had for trades I got from a ticket so instead of wasting it I traded it quickly so I wasn't tempted to drive it, try harder troll

Does it matter if I know how to use it or not. I didn't double post so don't worry about it. Pretty lame that you have to try to call me out on something just because I corrected you. You can't be right all the time so just deal with it.

Grow up. I didnt say you double posted but if you used multi qoute you would only need 1 post instead of 2. I did not try to call you out i thanked you i thought it was 1800. Thanks for correcting now i know i can have 200 more cars in my garage.

First, you don't need to tell me to grow up, I'm already there. Probably old enough to be your father. Just guessing your young. Second, if I misunderstood your intentions, I apologize. My mistake. Just used to alot of these people on here being smart asses. It was just a bad day for me anyway. Again, sorry if I misunderstood your intentions. Peace.

@stepmanstep I'm not a troll the person you where surposed to have traded the 0/0 car with says you sent one with miles!!
