Apologies if this seems like a duplicate thread, but the poll thread seems to frame the discussion antagonistically. I'm approaching the issue with no judgment towards the people who enjoy the Hybrid cars.

The thing that I ABSOLUTELY love about the Gran Turismo franchise, ever since its inception, is the physics of the cars involved. Different cars FEEL like different classes of cars; the quick, nimble turn-in of a Toyota MR2 feels different than the AWD monster of the twin-turbo Mitsubishi 3000 GT, which feels different than the Detroit grunt of the '69 Chevy Camaro, and so on. It replicated a level of detail I'd never seen before in a racing game.

So, the allure of the Hybrid cars eludes me. Don't get me wrong; I do rather enjoy arcade racers, as well; I was up until 4:00 am last night playing one of the Midnight Club franchise. But, it would never occur to me to hoon about in GT with a car that *could not* plausibly exist in real life. For me, GT is my outlet for getting as close as I can to the real thing.

That said: if you, the reader, enjoy the Hybrid cars, what is it you get out of the experience? Why do you enjoy them? I'm genuinely curious.

Thanks in advance for your replies. :)

Well most of us are up to making realistic cars now, which is awesome because you can make your dream cars. I have some awesome cars that I'm sure even you would like. It is not 100,000 HP Hypercars no more.

I like them when I'm lazy, it's farming time. But for 4 minutes and one race. I like them for the jump track, they are fast and can fly. What I don't like is using them for progression through the game, I didn't use them until I hit 40 in both regards, I also don't like using them online in anything other than free run "screw around" lobbies. They are fun to show friends and experiment and see what is and isn't possible. I also like watching b-spec Bob's use the X1. I find it cruelly entertaining.

The Shigeno is one of my favorites, I like to limit it to 3000HP, everything above is impractical an no fun anymore. They have better uses, like for faster and better drifts.

Just for the record, 3000 hp "engine swap"

You could get near 10,000 with the right engine.

I was thinking more along the lines of the 3,000 hp Civic going around. I know that Nelson Racing and builders of that caliber are turning out some IMPRESSIVE beasts.

Don't think we're likely to see a daily driver 3,000 hp Civic, though. ;)

Ive always loved the GTR's and Ive loved drifting but have only been able to mix the 2 in Forza. Now, I can slide around in my RWD 7.0L V8 GTR as much as I want. And boy its a lot of fun in that thing.

You're generalizing those of us doing it into the 3,000hp+ cars that do 500mph category. A lot of what is going on right now are realistic Engine swaps. Chassis swaps so that the wheel offsets are more realistic, drivetrain swaps, etc, etc. Stuff that is a million times more realistic than the crazy hacked cars.

My favorite creations so far are a Z06 V8 swapped '89 Miata with 450hp. Has just the right amount of power. Or, my '99 WRX STi swapped '05 STi sedan with a chassis swap and the stock wing removed. Makes around 400hp, excellent car to toss around.

I enjoy it because it's allowing us to do what should already be available in the game in the first place. 👍

RWD Wingless R34.
Paintable Re Amemiya FD3S.

Need I say more?

Ah! I didn't realize that there was a separate movement of realistic Hybrid creators; most of the dust-up I've seen browsing the forums seems to be outrage at all the nigh-improbable cars. I support the idea of engine swaps within the realm of reason. :)

some example swaps I've had fun in

Cobra 427 motor in F150
Viper motor in Dodge Ram
NASCAR motor in the trucks
C5 Z06 vette motor into C3 convertible
RX7 motor in Miata
BTR motor in VW Bug
Turn an Eclipse GS-T (FWD) into GSX (AWD) which I owned.
I could go on...

I've no desire to create 3000hp Civics either and I'm fairly certain the above are plausible IRL.

And more to say...

Black (but stock) Ferrari 330 to go along with my black (but stock) GT40LM race car... such beauty!

I only have them to fool about with friends online in private rooms, just for giggles. It's good therapy to have some beers, chat and show off some of the cool looking and sometimes ludicrously powered concoctions that we've recently gotten or created.

I did actually make a friend a realistic hybrid that he wanted, so he was happy too.

Aside from that, they don't interest me to use them in the actual game or in any real competitive way, as I achieved the Platinum before I got my first hybrid.

I like being able to create replicas of real world cars, or having cars that have real world power figures. There are some important cars missing in GT5, such as any of the Audi Quattro rally cars, but through hacking you can get a close approximation if them.

All i wanted was to drive a Ferrari on a rally stage. I have no idea why they didn't allow that in the first place. I don't think it's a licensing problem. I mean if you bought a Ferrari who is to say that you can't take it off road? You really think their name would be forever tarnished because you have driven it in the dirt? But now i can drive one on a rally circuit.

I know this has been brought up before, but they really need to improvise a change to the modifications to the cars in the game.It seems like we have less tuning options for GT5 than in GT4, and to find out that they had already put in stage four turbos etc already in the disk codes? We might not know why they chose to have left them out, but if we had more tuning options hybriding wouldn't even be needed.

My favorite hybrids are also the realistic ones ..my premium spoon ek..and my Camaro ss with a 454 big block come to mind

I've gotten all the cars in the game before the Civic came out so now I'm trying to collect hybrids, I have 7 so far.

Ive so far made over 105 realistic hybrids in my off time.

Next one being a Escort cosworth powered MR Ford Ka.

Whats not to enjoy.

I...will call it the cossi ka..

Edit..Or should i use RS200 Engine, I'm using the Volkswagen beetle cup car chassis, and Drivetrain from the Honda Beat.

I hate the hybrid cars, I only like the ones that haveli or the realistic hp, like my 1200hp supra, it's not a supra you see everyday but you can get a supra 1200 hp unlike the 30,000 HP gtr and crap like that, those cars just ruin the game

I created a second account for hybrids. Just for the fun of it. I have 100% all gold and all cars (without trading, cheating or anything like that). So now it's time for something new.

I know why Ferrari's weren't allowed on rally stages. Because that's what Ferrari and PD agreed to when they did up the contract for licensing Ferrari's for GT5. The fact that you don't understand Ferrari's reasoning is irrelevant. Odds are slim anything would ever happen, but even in a small way, you are jeopardizing Ferrari's involvement in GT6.

Hybriding would have happened regardless of what other options were available, even engine, chassis and drivetrain swaps. There will always be hackers out there who will do it for fun, for the challenge or because they aren't happy with 1200 HP Honda Civics, they've just got to have 2000 HP. If the door is open and it obviously was, someone will walk through, it's just a matter of time.

While it could be jeopardising the relationship, there have been Ferrari Rally Cars, albeit run by privateer teams, so dirt tyres shouldn't be too much of a problem. Also the Seasonal Event glitch that could give cars dirt tyres means there are dirt tyred Ferrari's roaming GT5 anyway (I know, I have one :P ).

I'm hoping that rather than see hybrids as a problem, PD sees them as a good indication that engine, chassis and drivetrain swaps, not to mention the removal of body panels, would be a welcome addition to GT5.

I do wonder if PD actually want their games to be hacked when they near the end of their lifespan. The reason for this is simple. If PD didn't want the game to be hacked, why would they include the HP multiplier? As far as I know in game mods do not alter the multiplier and it was present in GT3 and 4 so can't be linked to the power limiter (introduced in GT5).

I love hybrids because finally the Miata would have more then 250hp and with a different chassi it's wide and looks awesome! 4Rotor Miata <3

Still haven't got one yet, but their more realistic when it comes to customizability e.g Realistic HP, Engine Swaps, Fitment, Ride height. Speaking on behalf of all GT5 Drifters, they wanted the customizability of Forza 4. Now that hybrids are closing in on the lack of customizability, it the foundation of why as drifters we love hybrids. Whats not to love about a 600hp SR20? Achievable in real life BTW.

^this. Hybrids seemed to have revitalized the drifting scene, more than when they patched wheel changes for standards..I love it personally, but I worry about the racing and time attack crowd. We drifters roar in approval of 4 rotor miatas , and v8 swapped silvias, while the guys chasing the clock are rightfully terrified that 50+hp can be coded in with no detection. Kaz has provided opium to the masses of drifters with a few drift cars, a crappy drift mode, and keeping his banner on RL D1 machines, but we all know it's the racers and time attackers that Kaz really listens to, and they seem intent on stopping hybriding online, period.

Granted if Ferrari's involvement isn't in GT6 I will take full responsibility for using the code to my advantage for making PD's/Ferrari's creations drivable on rally stages. Because clearly this information is viewed by people worldwide, and could get relayed back to a executive at Ferrari. However I fail to see how i am "jeopardizing" their involvement when i am only doing this offline, not going into peoples online lobby's making a fool of myself with hybrids. But in a sense if you want to categorize me into a hacker like everyone else who are making hybrids, then yes i suppose that i am jeopardizing Ferrari's involvement in GT6. However every manufacture that is in GT5 is now "jeopardized" as well.

I also do understand their reasoning behind their decision. Ferrari makes road cars and race cars, cars that would normally be driven on a racetrack or on a weekend cruise in good whether. GT5 is just a showcase for them so they wanted their cars to stay on the asphalt. So if someone who had never seen a Ferrari saw one on GT5 going around a dirt track it would change Ferrari's whole "racetrack persona". The Enzo is one good example, you would never imagine an Enzo going off road. The clientele for this sort of car isn't interested in what the offloading capabilities are, it's simply how fast it can drive around a racetrack, how it feels on the road. However i was saying if you bought one in real life, Ferrari has no authority to tell you what you can and cannot do with the car you just bought from them. Yes i do understand that we are talking about a game here and clearly the matters are different in these circumstances. So if Ferrari's involvement isn't in GT6 feel free to either single me out for using the code of the game to my advantage by putting rally tires on a Ferrari, or categorize me as a hacker then go ahead. It really doesn't matter because the damage has been done, everyone now knows about hybriding. But at least i will take the responsibility for one car manufacture. What about the rest?

I agree that even with more tuning options there would still be hybrids, i was referring to the realistic ones. There will always be hackers out there to take advantage of whatever they want. But if there was more tuning options in GT5 there would be a few less people trying to make realistic hybrids. I was also aware of the seasonal event glitch in 2011. They fixed the event after they knew about the glitch, but they failed to do anything about the cars it created. So they also jeopardized their own relationship with all of the car manufactures by not addressing this problem. I understand the risks involved by putting rally tires on a Ferrari, i also understand the damage hybriding has caused in GTP/ GT5 online community. However i do not desire to make a car with HP well beyond PD's and the manufacturer's "limits". I am aslo not a crazy kid terrorizing the online community with hybrids. But i will accept the consequences for my actions if PD addresses the hybriding issue. Yes even just for some rally tires on a Ferrari.

Oh and there is already one confirmed Ferrari for GT6 by the way.
