Why does everyone hate rally in GT5?

I noticed that everyones opinion on rally in GT5 is not a positive one. Why? Yeah it could be better, the one thing that sucks is that there is not enough tracks. More cars would be nice also (Ford Fiasta RS2000, Skoda, Mini Countrymen) but anyways for what it is I dont mind it. I wish however they would make races like the WRC format when they run stages and add real trails like Norway.

Probably because there isn't enough of it compared to ANY other GT in previous enhancements. Look at GT2 when it was first installed, then GT3, then GT4. You can probably see that the rally stages outnumber considerably what we get here. The number of rally cars in this game is still decent even with all the carryovers to standard (and there's a lot from '99 presumably because of GT2 which came out that year) but yeah, there aren't enough golden oldies. The Lancia 037 Rally Car is a big miss for me, Audi Quattro S1 obviously, there's still Pikes Peak to really take care of as well. I don't think the rally is horrible in this game but there certainly isn't enough of it here.

I love the Lancia. I just wish GT5 would add the 037 Stradale in general

Maybe this will explain a lot

I just wish the stages were longer. They're random, which helps a lot with replayability(and makes it quite fun if you turn the map off). But it seems like the shortest stages you run should be as long as the longest stages are now, and the longest much longer. A 35 second rally stage doesn't really feel very satisfying.

The AI could really do with a snow-driving lesson as well. And why are they all "1 day" events?

Very true. The AI is so bad on snow I started overtaking them in the stages in both the Intermediate and Advanced races. However, I think they actually tend to be surprisingly potent on gravel, partially because I am so rubbish on gravel

Rally physics is ok, but the tracks ruin the experience. They are too wide and if you go off track then you will only bounce back. RBR has some great tracks, 10 times better then gt5 and thats a game from 2004! R.I.P Richard Burns

What is RBR and who is Richard Burns?

Joking...? Google Richard Burns and try RBR on youtube, RBR=Richard Burns Rally. Its the most realistic rally sim ever made.

I don't I like it actually... The Toscana rally track is really cool, shame there aren't any more :guilty: and the 5 premium rally cars are really good... My favourite is the Subaru WRC 2008 👍

You answered yourself here. Not enough events, not enough tracks, not enough new rally cars, no WRC license... 👎

Rally is GT5's biggest letdow IMHO...

We do need new track editor layouts by the way.

I will say that the custom rally layouts on the course creator are pretty decent actually. The good thing about Liege is you can get the longest possible tracks on it (I've gotten up to 6.6 mile tracks on Liege) and with Alaska you can get just billions of corners (well OK, 117 is the max I've gotten at the moment but still that's huge). Toscana and Mt Aso do sort of count though being technically open road creators, and while Toscana is the best all rounder of the lot Mt Aso is the most epic fail of any of the 7 themes. Even Tokyo Bay can get some complex tracks eventually, with Mt Aso you just get a D shape EVERY TIME. :grumpy:

I don't hate rally, I love it. In fact I want to be a rally driver. But what I do hate about GT5 is the lack of proper rally tracks. And they are closed circuits. The ones that are A to B are only availible in the Special events section and they are much too wide.

The track editor really adds to the rally experience in the game, but it needs some work...
Remove the invisible barriers, substitute the circuit layout with a point to point one and add 3-4 more base locations(3dirt/1tarmac).

I love using the rally cars especially on Eiger Norwand I have had alot of fun on that track

The rally experience in the special events would be nicer if the directions were clearer, only hearing the distance to the next bend and appropriate gear isn't quite enough. It's critical to know if there's a crest or if the bend tightens or opens, specially the latter with the stages GT5 has.

Whoever said that the Rally physics is ok does not have a clue, I have rallied and these cars feels like you are rallying with road tyres, the previous rally in gt4 was better. They feel like boats and feel very slow and brakes feel like discs are made of biscuit tin lids! the tracks are also rediculously wide!!

Watch some rallying and look at the amount of grip a car can get with rally tyres with the torque pulling and throwing the car around a the tightest of corners

When im drifting with a 4wd on a tsukuba it actually makes a the car feel more rally like

I love how bad the AI are, I'm always in 2nd (or sometimes 1st) by the end of a stage on any level.

The numbers your co-driver are calling out aren't the proper gear that you should be in, it's a numbering system that identifies the sharpness of the upcoming turn. The lower the number, the sharper the turn, and the more you should slow for it. The higher number turns are more like high-speed sweepers requiring little or no braking.

I agree though, it should also tell you if there's a crest or increasing/decreasing radius.

Ya rally sucks because there's no purpose for it. There's like one rally challenge and that's it. Online is even worse because barely anyone who plays it and the ones who do suck so much. They crash into every wall and still do fine since that slows them down without any consequences of exploding like in real life. Hopefully they will add more seasonal rally's and it will get more people doing it and eventually catch on or pikes peak because that course is the nurburgring of rally and people remember it from gt2 like that stupid chat showed lol.

Yes and thus the lower the gear you should be in for proper acceleration. It's not just coincidence that the numbers match the gear you slip down to.
