Why does everyone hate rally in GT5?

I noticed that everyones opinion on rally in GT5 is not a positive one. Why? Yeah it could be better, the one thing that sucks is that there is not enough tracks. More cars would be nice also (Ford Fiasta RS2000, Skoda, Mini Countrymen) but anyways for what it is I dont mind it. I wish however they would make races like the WRC format when they run stages and add real trails like Norway.

I agree, I personaly love rally but no one else seems to. PD should have included a rally event to the game, as they did in GT2, 3 and 4. Or they could release a rally seasonal?

Edit: Heyy this is my 100th post :dopey::):sly:👍💡:dunce::cheers::trouble::eek::p:gtpflag:

Yes and thus the lower the gear you should be in for proper acceleration. It's not just coincidence that the numbers match the gear you slip down to.

Gotcha. Next time I hear "7 Left," I'll remember to downshift my 5 speed Evo Rally Car into 7th. :dunce:

seems unfinished to me.

they should have left rally out altogether and focused on road racing instead (leave the rally to rally specific games) of the half-assed stuff we see.. but that would affect the car count negatively or make gtpers ponder why we have rally cars and no rally tracks.

For rally lovers: We're doing some WRC type events here and the organizer (Masi_23) is reaching the limits with the custom track maker. It's some good fun and if anyone wants to consider joining this or next season.

I think the rally physics suck not realistic by no means. If they could get the physics of it right I bet a lot more people would be racing rally cars. I like rally racing just not in GT-5. If I want to run rally cars I play Dirt-2 much more fun.

Purpose-built rally cars have six gears, and the highest number that's ever called out is a 6.

Pace notes vary from team to team, let alone from one continent to the other but here is the overall breakdown of a set of notes. Also, David Higgings mentioned how some of them work here. Here's the excerpt:

[...]
But there are many systems in place that drivers use, and each driver may have some slightly different method. For example, "1" being tight first-gear bends all the way up to "6" for a flat-out, sixth-gear corner.[...]

So you've never driven a car on a dirt road then?

Rallying by yourself is fun. Trying to rally race behind a screen of snow or dirt is not fun....

All this rally talk makes me wanna rally lol. It can be very fun because it's a combo of drift and racing. Trying to get the fastest time without hitting any walls while going fast on the straights and sliding the corners is really hard and challenging.

I don't mind the rally. In fact I enjoy it. It requires a bit more restraint than tarmac racing. I do wish there were more events or even an organised rally race section like GT4. They did really step it up with the few modern premium rally cars they added in GT5. Still have a soft spot for Group B, though.

Why does everyone hate rally in GT5?

For me, because of the physics. Way too slippery & unrealistic. GT3 & 4 were better, IMO. I loved those races.

- Poor implementation (only 3 tracks which are circuits + no A-B course maker layouts)
- FFB issue with rally in GT5 scares people with wheels from driving it (FFB for rally is automatically set to 10 no matter what your setting is and the wheel shakes tremendously)

GT4 and GT3 were rubbish for rally because the oversteer wasn't modelled correctly, I seriously doubt the anti-rally folk on here have driven hard on dirt roads, because for the most part GT5 feels pretty damn good.

^^^This..My G27 sounds like a train I hate doing the rally for that reason alone!! I may try and play it sometime with the G27 unplugged from the wall but still plugged into ps3 so I have no FFB

Cause of the dust, you can't see anything.

Rally should be one car at the time, and the fastest wins. Not a dozen cars competing at the same time. The only thing I see is DUST!

This is true.

Decent time trials, intricate winding single track roads. GT5's point to point sounded great but its execution leaves a lot to be desired.

There are some amazing rally cars in GT5 and I think I have pretty much all of them by now but nowhere great to use them! The three dirt track courses there are on offer simply aren't enough.

Actually I have driven a rally car. (VW Jetta)
On dirt roads.
And it gripped far better than a GT5 virtual car.

Hi peter I have driven plenty of miles on dirt roads. I was raised out in the country in North Carolina started driving winding dirt mountain roads even before I had a drivers license. Wrecked my first car on a dirt road playing around. I am 53 years old and have more then likely driven a lot more miles than you ever have. Used to race dirt cars also and the grip level in GT5 is not realistic.
Watching a dust cloud and people crashing into each other in every corner is not realistic racing.

I learned to drive on dirt roads mate, quite a few years ago, in RWD cars with enough hp to get into trouble, so yeah I think I know what I'm talking about. The grip level on loose gravel is about right, IMHO. Following a dust cloud and crashing etc? Yeah perhaps that's not so realistic...

I agree on loose gravel there isn't much grip but on dirt there is a little more grip then GT5 cars. Thats cool that you learned to drive on dirt roads have fun with the game and I will do the same.

Cheers mate

There are games that are entirely devoted to the world of rally; those implement it much better and are likely more realistic than GT5's interpretation.

The physics are not as good in rally because they need to work for both tarmac and loose(snow/dirt) surfaces, as well as accurate wet weather grip reduction.

Lot's to strain a single engine to:yuck:

Rally is so much fun.... how exciting is it to get to drive around on a slippery surfaces as a way to take a break from driving tarmac all the time?
