Why does everyone hate rally in GT5?

tbh I think the rally is awesome in GT5. Its not my forte when it comes to motorsport, but I enjoy it. even if it is a nightmare on a DS3!

My friend however adores it, after doing it on GT5 he went out and bought the WRC games for PS3, and is now about 75% of the way through completing his Real Life Rally License tests! :D

Where is he taking his Rally License tests? I want to be a rally driver (when I'm old enough to drive :)👍 ).

Who needs a license when all you need is an old bomb and a dirt road

I want to be an official World Rally Championship driver, and it isn't as easy as "finding an old bomb and a dirt road". You got to have a rally/race license or they won't bother looking at what else you have to offer. You must also be in fantastic physical condition (to handle the g-forces involved).

Maybe the other GT's got rally wrong, in terms of realism, and now that it's "fixed" I struggle with the move to a more realistic rally experience? Hard to say as I am no expert but the new rally just feels so different for me, and not in a good way.
Having tried some other Rally games, I think GT5 is messed up on gravel, and the other GTs are more correct. Braking is weird, "drifting" around turns is weird, and you can only crawl around turns. It's not intuitive at all, as it was in GT4. So while I like Rally in general in GT5, I don't like the gravel courses much at all.

And I second giving the bots snow racing lessons. They're too easy to blow away.

+1 👍

Probably because there isn't enough of it compared to ANY other GT in previous enhancements. Look at GT2 when it was first installed, then GT3, then GT4. You can probably see that the rally stages outnumber considerably what we get here. The number of rally cars in this game is still decent even with all the carryovers to standard (and there's a lot from '99 presumably because of GT2 which came out that year) but yeah, there aren't enough golden oldies. The Lancia 037 Rally Car is a big miss for me, Audi Quattro S1 obviously, there's still Pikes Peak to really take care of as well. I don't think the rally is horrible in this game but there certainly isn't enough of it here.

Indeed, there is obviously far less number of rally cars present in GT5 compared to the previous instalments of GT series... Personaly I did think the features of rallying in GT4 was the best as it included both dirt and snow traks that allowed us to have a wider range of taking enjoyments and doing other things(both beneficial and petty) in contrast with the newest lineup of machines and developed trait of damage function in GT5.

People need to actually go back and play GT4 before they start talking it up compared to GT5. The handling model in GT4 game was very broken, and I guarantee that no car handles on dirt like anything in GT4.

To stop all arguments, let's just say the handling model for rally in ALL Gran Turismo games is rubbish. End of argument.

Im going to disagree, I liked the handling of rally cars in GT4 I always have fun with it and I still go back to it now days.

Don't know who hate, rally is very good for me.

But why it doesn't go online, it's simple to make room where players go to Special Stage one by one.

And if game have coursemaker, why to not use it for random tracks, I think it's possible to use coursemaker like generator rally tracks.
Maybe in next updates? It's would be present for Scandinavia :)

I fell in love with rally after getting a wheel. Once you get the hang of countersteering it's very rewarding.

Put in all gt2 rally courses in gt5 and its fine.
But now we got 1Stupid track , 1Retard track on the mountain edge :p and the generator that is always the same and no steady value to the track layouts and the way that its not possible online races and time attacks on mass scale. So i dont enjoy learning a "generated" course to never use again after a race or 2.

Reasons why people hate rally (according to this thread) in GT5:

  • The tracks are much too wide, making them feel nothing like real rally tracks.
  • The cars handled much better in previous GT's on gravel (but some disagree).
  • The AI are really rubbish, especially on snow.
  • Nobody plays rally online much so getting a challenging race for rally is literally a challenge in itself.
  • Lack of interesting rally tracks like Pikes Peak hill climb.

Not enough tracks. but i love it lol me and my friend did (Time attack) in Evolution X TC and with simple tune got the fastest lap i dont remeber all. lol easiest tune for 545BHP and totally worth it. Nice

It's so hard, I want to rally and when countersteering the car goes on and on and on and on and hits the ''wall''

I must say that my Ford RS200 rally car made me fall in love with rally racing on here. after testing out my entire collection of rally cars i was excited when i found one that did not handle like rubbish offroad. if you're wondering what i used.

Chassis Reinforcement
Engine Upgrade 3
High RPM Turbo
Stock Suspension
A Transmission Tuned For 175mph
Max Downforce
30/70 Torque Split

for best results turn all aids off EXCEPT SRF and ABS. because if you turn those off you're going to bust you're arse. entered it in 8 online races and won every single race. even beat an Escudo!

Oh! and i use a DS3

No, you're wrong.

  • Tracks are ok, there's just 3 of them.
  • Cars handle great and the statement which says that cars handled better in GT4 is one of the most retarded things I've read on this site.
  • Who cares about AI? Rally is a TT discipline.
  • Nobody plays rally because rally is known to destroy wheels because of the violent FFB GT5 has on dirt/snow tires
  • Subjective thought.

On snow the violent force feedback isn't such an issue because the front wheels have close to no grip, meaning your wheel can't turn violently and suddenly. If anything the force feedback has an equivalent level to about 1-2. This is exactly why if I do happen to play rally on GT5, I always do it on snow to save my DFGT 👍 .

I honestly think the rally isnt too bad but it doesnt really seem as fast paced as it should be. Its physics seem a bit off and it feels really slippery and I even think the snow rally feels better than the dirt. If it had the tracks from the DiRT series and a bit more grippy physics I think it would be much better. Also they need to fix the jumping physics badly because the cars always seem level and lands like a brick with no out of control feeling. Rally is supposed to be fast, pushing the car to its limit and in GT5 it just doesnt feel right. No I am not bashing on GT5 i just think that is one of the reasons not too many people decide to do rally on this game.

I'm starting an Ice Rallying series soon.. testing online its quite fun...

I use to think that, too.

Then one day I gazed over at my speedometer at Eiger and noticed I was going over 120 MPH downhill on the side of a mountian on dirt in a Subaru Imprezza.

I think that the sense of speed in GT5 is ruined by jumping between 700-900 HP LMP cars with a ton of downforce into 300~ HP cars with almost none, compared to the LMP cars.

Yeah I do agree with you. Even though the speedometer says its fast it just doesnt seem it. Maybe if they added screen shake or something.
