why does my car slow down after a certain speed?

well my mazda miata just slows down after it hits 141 mph. i've added horsepower, a triple plate clutch. but still nothing. please help me. thank you in advanced.

you might hit the rev limiter in 6th or fifth gear(depending on your gearbox) so just adjust the auto setting of the gearbox in settings

You must buy a transmission upgrade before you can do that, however. You must buy this if you want your car to reach higher speeds. Every car in the game does this when it reaches maximum speed, though.

yah... the wider the transmission the more mph it will go... top speed will be better... the gears are too close... go tune it up...

That's not quite so - You are supposed to use the Auto Setting to get a very general setting for gears 1-6, but you're supposed to adjust the Final ratio to fine-tune dealing with hitting the rev limiter on the straights and what not. In fact, because most cars come with appropriate Auto settings on them, I almost always just deal with the Final Drive ratio.

nah a sports tranny is set closer so your top speed will prolly be a tad slower, get a fully adjustable race tranny

get your settings changed on the tranny, change the final ratio to a lower number, 1:1 is as fast as you can be so shoot lower to be faster.

heheheheh  I think this question earns the newb Q of the week (if we have that, and if we dont' we just made it:) ) no offense to realestkilla at all

Yeah, trust me. You would much rather have you top out at 141mph, and have it slow back down. If we didn't have those little rev limiters, a few more hundred RPMs and the engine goes bye-bye!

adding more bhp does not make the car have a higher top speed. ever. max revs in top gear is max revs in top gear, adding more bhp wont make it change.

buying an ajustable tranny does.

Horsepower does give it a higher top speed.
Buy a car, leave it stock, and put on the best transmission, and set it up to the highest speed it can achieve.
Then buy a car, add all the horsepower upgrades, and the transmission, set it up to the highest speed it can avhieve. I'm 99% sure you'd end up with a higher top speed.

What good are lower numerical gear settings if you don't have the horsepower to get it there? (assuming your looking for top speed)

Just a little test I did. I bought a Evo VII, and put the highest transmission on there, and set it as wide as it would go. I put it on the Max Speed test, because I knew it would get to the point to where the accleration would be so minute, you could almost call it your top speed. With the widest auto settings possible, I did 170mph. With a Stage 3 turbo and a Racing Intercooler, I did 195mph, and the acceleration was much greater and would be worth it to keep it going.

VG30DETT - you've missed G A R A's point.

You have a car that hits the rev limiter at 130mph. If you give that car more power (but as long as it can't rev any higher), it will still hit the rev limiter at 130mph.

As you say, if you upgrade the transmission then yes, you will get a higher speed. But power alone does not give higher speed. Extra power will need transission upgrade too to see the benefit of that power (in top speed terms).

Well, see, he said, "adding more bhp does not make the car have a higher top speed. ever."

I was just going after the ever. I realize it wasn't what he was going at, but it was 1:30am, I was bored, and had nothing else to do.

lol,

Police: Why did you kill that man?
bmwx: Meh. It was 1:30am, I was bored, and had nothing else to do.
Police: Ahhhh, yeah, I've been there. Okay, your free to go.
