HaHaHa as if JESUS no WAY
Want a race longer than 3-5 laps (obviously its not only me)

Whenever I open a lobby I want a race not a sprint surely I'm not the only one!

Can't seem to find anything appropriate yet thinking about it I would have thought this was the most popular form of racing.

I know I'm gonna get loads of people saying I should join a clan. But I already have they run lots of organised races, I want one off races.

So basically if you agree with me and are having the same problem please add me my psn is: mr_bungle83.

It would be awesome to have a friend list full of people racing, don't get me wrong I'm not even on about 30 min races, just long enough to have to involve some strategy. Even 8-10 laps and you might want a pit. Or maybe you run a firmer tyre.

I'm sat looking at my telly waiting for people to join me. my room is called 20 min races cleanPIT.

Not a sole......

Cheers. And to elaborate on my thread a little (may as well because I'm so bored waiting)

Basically a moan. Not gonna win many friends but hey..

I just think a longer race encourages cleaner, faster racing if I'm in a a sprint race and I'm near the back it's a near impossibility to cleanly overtake a scrambling pack.

OMG someones joined me.

Maybe hard to get people to join the lobby, but I can imagine people who join a 10 lap lobby and find that there currently racing 1/10 they would back out due to impatience?

The tyre wear issue has ruined longer races, half way into my 3rd lap in a lmp race last nite my tyres were shot and I had to pit, not very realistic for a "real driving simulator" if tyres lasted maybe 8 or 9 laps on high power gt cars ect then a 25 lap race would be fantastic, I don't want to be pitting every 4 laps, using harder compound isn't much better either

It's the same on any console racing game and I think there are two simple reasons. One, the single player console games have always focused on races of that length so they became the norm and two, unlike sim PC racers the people who play console games on the whole tend to be casual gamers who aren't interested in serious, long races.

It does unfortunately encourage bad driving. If you watch a real race of any kind with decent length you could see someone sit behind another driver waiting for the right opportunity for 10 or more laps before finally getting through. With all of the sprint races in gaming players don't have that advantage, with just two or three laps they feel the need to go for passes ASAP, and they go wrong.

Personally I'm with you, 5 laps of a normal circuit should be an absolute bare minimum but on a console game you're just not going to get a big enough crowd. If you want that sort of experience you really need to look towards PC sims, with more 'hardcore' racing guys.

PS before any of the people that DO take console games more seriously and do the longer races I know you're out there, I'm just saying the overwhelming majority don't do it.

We have a couple of guys in our league that can't manage tires either, they also blame it on the game.

The thing with longer races is that the pack can get split up and then it's just a procession until the end. People quit earlier as either their car isn't good enough or they are just too far behind. That's why I think longer races aren't more common.

Don't get me wrong, I would much, much prefer longer races but only if the cars were equal and there was only a small amount of quitters.

I'l keep an eye out for your room. Can't for a few days but maybe in the future I'l drop in.

Would love to join in, been starting to itch for longer races, as I'm starting to grow bored of all the short sprint races online...

Sadly my fat PS3's died recently :( Hope to get a new one asap :D

I purchased rfactor2 in this hope and I swear to god you couldn't get round the first corner without incident. That was if you could find anyone I know it was beta testing but still if your gonna pay upwards of£60 for a game then u expect to be able to race.

Ha ha I will burn out a set of sifts in no time but I am a little harsh in my approach!

I like long races (50- 100 mile). Used to do sch-loads of them in GPL which has the added bonus of Contact equals Car in low earth orbit -
To say it promoted clean driving is no understatment.

I guess you have a crowd of GT5 drivers who are much more happy with ABS and TCS with Race Soft tyres full aero, Buddaesque 'Lightenment" - But for the most part they are just after fun.

Get left behind in a race... then next race improve your car a bit... if you are racing the same little group of pals no one will mind if you juice your car up a bit to keep up... it may get a bit old if you rely on the advantage when you start winning though.

Would be nice if you could run races which self handicapped - winner has to lose 20pp, 2nd 15pp
3rd 10pp and
4th 5 pp

I had a race the other day and I was woefully outclassed, (SS tyres vs RS tyres not that I knew at the time), but even though I trailed in last I drove much harder with way more focus that I usually do in GT5.

In GPL the Better drivers (Aliens - acid for blood, walk on the ceiling, can survive in hard vacuum) took much pride in being able to compete in the worst cars... I would guess there will be the same cadre of low pH drivers in GT5.

Good luck finding drivers that can race hard and clean and keep it up for more than a few minutes.

Lol! It's nothing to do with managing tyres (I actually won that race for your information) its not realistic! That's my point, how many real life race cars do you ever see that have to pit every 4 laps to change worn tyres?

Burned myself out on enduro races back when I used to host NASCAR 200 lap races at Daytona.

I agree, also get a bit sick of most A-spec/seasonals being 3-5 laps. I will happily join in when i can. My playstation id is kevboi

because they drive fast yet conservative and manage their tires. if a pro drove like i presume you do their tires would be shot and their car would suffer undue wear.

Utter dribble! the tyre wear in gt5 is a known issue and has been debated about in numerous threads, its not realistic in anyway at all, its not a game breaker for me but it needs addressing all the same.

What is the point of a race with 2 laps? or 1?
Over 5 laps WITH a great drivers is what i really call fun, add me later to race with any TRACK even if you want NURBURGRING 5 laps i don't care as long as the race fair with the cars and great drivers with clean driving.

There are merits to both the sprint races as well as to the longer races which require more planning and strategy. Which ones I prefer depend on my mood as well as how much time I have to play. Sometimes I really want a good 20+ minute race but they are hard to find with clean drivers who won't quit like crybabies if they get behind the pack.

Another thing to consider -- if you are setting up longer races with prohibited SRF, ASM or TCS, then some people who want a long race will not stick around because they prefer to use these aids which may be prohibited. Not every clean and fast driver is a pro, some are just more respectful and patient than others, which makes them seem like pros sometimes.

I agree with you totally. and by the way, Mike Patton fan much? haha

I think the reason why everyone does short races is because in a public lobby, it can be tough to get enough people in a room to actually do that. It's also tough to get friends together to race. So people just set up quick races knowing if someone joins, and sees that there's 8 laps left in a race, they're going to leave and find another race.

At first, I used to think 8 minutes is a good length for a race. After joining iracing, I totally disagree with that. In iracing, it's 20 minutes minimum (except on ovals). To me it's so much better.

Plus I also think any race where you all have to stop at the pits, is a better race.

I think overall, GT5s biggest problem is the multiplayer. Sure it's find if you have like minded friends or a league, but in the public rooms it's ridiculous. There are too many options. I think public lobbies should have 2 playlists, casual, and sim racer. Casual would be what it is now. Sim racer would have damage set to heavy, tire wear on, and tires would be restricted to what the car comes with. No more of this racing soft tires bull sh**

I also think GT5 really needs matchmaking. Even what GT5p had for matchmaking would be an improvement (especially considering they got rid of the whole standard physics thing)

That is a good idea, and yea massive MP fan.
