Ever since getting into the GT series my favourite thing about it has been the modifying and tuning of the cars.
But when GT5 arrived something happened. I started racing and using a lot of the cars in stock form. And found it to be seriously enjoyable.

Over the last few months the C6 ZR1 has become my all time favourite car.
The title says stock, but I don't use the stock tires. I use sport soft tires instead of hard. But the car itself has only had oilchanges, not a single part has been changed.
The reason I love it is that it does everything better than any other car in its class. Despite its stock 577 performance points I am able to keep up with almost anything in a PP600/SS tire race. I'm not the best driver out there, but the ZR1 just combines the best of both raw grip and challenging aspects.
I find it to be able to pretty much out drift anything too, with some comfort hard tires slapped on it. The only cars I have that can drift at or beyond its level are heavily modified and purpose built drifters.
I also love the way it looks. Well, apart from the hideous "window" on the bonnet. I would like it to sit a bit lower, but changing its suspension ruins it in my opinion.

Feel free to agree or disagree with me. Or suggest other stock cars that you think I should try? A few other stock favourites of mine are the R33 Skyline (P), Gallardo, 458 Italia, 135i, SLS AMG and the NSX-R (P). But the ZR1 is easily the best one, since it can do whatever I ask of it.

Edit: Added a few pics of my baby.

I was the same way, all through the GT series I loved making slow cars fast. Round about late GT4 (when not trying to win races, just enjoying nurburgring practice laps) I realized that the dynamics on stock cars with sports tires was much more controlable and fun than a fully tuned car.

Perhaps it is a lack of body rigidity, or downforce, but street cars with 800 horsepower pretty much suck.

A while ago a smart man told me, "You want a faster car, buy a faster car. Trying to make a slow car fast will never leave you satisfied." Seems to ring true in game too.

One exception to this rule is the fitting of an adjustable LSD on mid-engined cars, so I can turn up the deceleration lock up. GT's mid-rear physics are pretty much crap.

Cars I have enjoyed unfettered with:

RUF yellow bird (by far the funnest car ever, has taught me more about car control than all other cars combined)

Murci SV

F430 Scudi

Viper is a handful, but fun!

I agree with this to a certain extent. The 458 Italia ans 430 Scuderia are very good though. Possibly because of the intelligent LSD that modern Ferraris have. The NSX-R is a bit more challenging stock. But one more reason to love stock cars is that you can't adjust a thousand things so it better suits your driving style, instead you must adjust the way you drive.

This is a great break down of your reasons for liking the car and I enjoyed reading it and it's leading me to want to try it too. However, where exactly is your Q or A in this thread?

Couldn't think of any other place to put it. But I asked for suggestions on other stock cars to try out just to be safe :dopey:

I'll have to try this car, for the Corvette Seasonal Bonus race, on the Indy Road course, was my favorite to date. I won that one with a used 1990 Corvette, and found it to be very challenging to catch 1st. The corvettes have just the right oomph when it comes to "feeling" the slippage of the tires out of every corner.

True, they offer superb feedback. I don't actually have much love for american cars to be honest. But the latest generation of Corvettes are just sublime. I also love my ACR Viper, but since it is not stock I didn't bring it up before. The RM Camaro '69 is also quite good, but like my ACR not stock.

I love my zr1. And while i have bought tunning parts, i havent done any weigjt reductions or engine mods so i can go back to stock. While the mclearen f1 is faster in stock form then the zr1 with me driving, i run all ky super cars in stock form. Unless online and need to make a PP limit or close to it.

I slao bought an acr to run on the ring. I found it too controlled and that low rev limit really affected the feel of the car. Felt like it wasnt putting out what it should. Cant say i like it to much

I agree, I took a stock ZR1 for a spin in it felt great. I didnt even want to modify it at all. Its hard to believe it still uses Leaf springs and handles as well as it does.

Cars that I enjoy bone stock are the BMW M5 and the Jaguar XFR, and in the snow I really enjoy driving the 08' Audi RS 6 Avant.

I've been trying out more stock cars in the snow and they are a bit softer and rev up slower (than a max tuned car) which helps in the snow.

Great looking car, but you're right about the bonnet window. I figured they were trying to emulate some of the Italian marques and missing the point somewhat.

You have inspired me to buy another one and keep it stock this time.

On the subject (ish), my favourite stock motor is the C63 AMG on sports medium around the 'Ring. What a hoot! Go for the Schwartzwald B race to add a little more excitement, especially if there's an SLS somewhere near the front of the grid.

Yep!

I have a stock version of each of the premium corvettes, as well as as many of the standards as I could find. Almost all are a blast to drive, my sleeper pick is the Corvette Grand Sport. Not as refined as the ZR1, but it is still fun, even though its a standard.

Some of the other stock cars I enjoy:

'66 Cobra 427
RUF "Yellowbird"
Ferrari 512BB (I keep pretty much all my Ferraris as close to stock as I can, but this is my favourite.)
Nissan GTR 09

Its my favorite car in game and in real life for a good reason!

I do like the car, but there is deffinetly alot better supercars

I have a C63 already. It's modified, but only slightly, and I like it alot. However I prefer the M3. As for the Yellow Bird... I can't be bothered. The way PD has made the RR cars is just idiotic. There is no way to get them tied down, unlike another excellent console game.
The Ferrari 512BB is a favourite of mine to look at. But I don't like it that much when it comes to driving. I think that is going to be one of my next stock projects, since I like to take cars I have to learn and adjust myself for. But I've spent too much time on the Yellow Bird to be bothered to return to it.
Tried a few other high powered stock cars tonight, but I have to say, none of them match the awesome ZR1.

So... What was the question? :odd:

There's a question in there if you look hard enough. But I didn't notice it was in the wrong part of the forum until it was too late. If a mod moves the thread I certainly won't complain.

lol I have to agree with you guys. I have recently bought a lot of stock cars too lol. More on the lower range (stock miata all the way to stock lfa)

No wonder it felt some good before i RM'd it.
Sure it's faster and all in RM+full tune, but I re-buy cars just so that they keep their original touch.
I have three F40 just because of that, one tuned, one in silver with stock tune+suspension and one completely tune.

I'd probably choose the NSX-R or the Z06 over the ZR1 personally. On the other hand I haven't done any "testing" of any sort, I'm just trying to think of the most well balanced car. (By balance I mean balance of ability, not weight.) The ZR1 seems to have a little too much power at some points, but I haven't used it as much as the Z06 so I'm probably just not used to it.

I'm with you on that stupid window on the hood though, I wish the carbon hood fixed it but no luck on that.

I prefer the Z06,feels more physical yet more driver involving and sounds ballsier.
But for ultimate involvement few things come close to a 500+hp Ferrari F40.Maybe a Elise RM or tuned NSX-R.
The ZR1 is good, but the steering feels loose and lacks feedback and how positive the steering feels makes up alot of the experience for me.There is also not enough progressive understeer on throttle. Then again mine is on comf soft's...
What I drive now though is a grip tuned Blitz Dunlop skyline, loads of fun.:)

And you've actually driven the CTR Yellowbird in real life, right...?
It's an old car, made in '87. Ask anyone who knows a thing or two about Porsches/Rufs from that time and they'll say that they're a handful. The Yellowbird is a well known monster to drive and GT5 replicated that extremly well.
Also, don't forget that the newest Ruf in GT5 is from 2000 - so please, don't compare Rufs from GT5 to Porsches in NFS:SU which are all new, modern Porsches.
Too bad that the GT5 doesn't have new Ruf cars, they're beasts.

Yev

I don't race any NFS games. The one I was refering to is made exclusively for another console. I have not driven a yellow bird, but I have driven many porsches old and new, high power and regular ones. And although the yellow bird should be a handful I think GTs physics for the Rufs and other RR cars is way off.

Why don't you move it yourself?

Ferrari 458 says Hi :D

Seriously.. For me the undisputed best stock car in GT5.

Simply brilliant

ZR1 is top 3 though 👍 Very nice car.

I bought and tuned ZR1 today. Fantastic car and handling!

Kinda missing the point of the thread here, I think...

I love racing stock cars on GT5, partly for the same reasons as the OP, and partly because I don't know jack about tuning...

Some of my favorites to drive are:

ZR1
Afla 8C
WRX 22b
Viper ACR
RX-8
