There are some people here that actually like the stuff. One of you please explain why every rap video is identical to every other rap video?

The low-angle camera shots, the slow-mo dancing, the flash-fades, the bling, the everything. They're always the same.

Why?

Well, I think there is indeed a lack of creativity in the Hip Hop vid world. This,I believe, is also true of most new metal vids. It's usually the band in a room, with diving camera angles, and fast shot changes. Very stagnant, but I don't think it's going to change for a while. I prefer more artistic reprasentations, like Tool videos, QOTSA, Orbital, Chemical Brothers, an so on.;)

Why were all of those 80's rock videos identical? What about any given Alternative video? Let's not forget how predictible those boy bands are. It's the same reason for all: Popular Culture.

Agreed, it's "Pop music" that is to blame. Most pop music is just a prepackaged formula, reused over and over again, with only small changes. This is due to the fact, that most people will just throw down their money for anything with a beat that makes them move, thus not really paying attention to the subtle complexities, that make good videos, and music, art.I think true artistry in music, and videos, is still alive, just harder to find. ;)

my suggestion is to stop watching all new rap music videos and watch the older ones. My other suggestion is to not listen to ANY rap from after 1997 - there's VERY few exceptions to that rule.

The reason is because it's nothing but a fad now - pop culture at it's absolute worst. I think the RIAA is trying to fight music pirates by releasing the worst crap that has EVER gone past my ears.

Check Puff Daddy/Big's video of the song Been Around the World - that was really awesome
Bone Thugs n Harmony's video of the song WAR was also one of the best I've seen (you can find it on launch.com

The only rapper that really makes good videos is Busta Rhymes (sp?). He always has crazy videos and they're usually fairly cool. Most rap music really doesn't lend itself well to videos or even concerts for that matter. Unless the song has a purpose or a theme, it's kind of hard to make a video for it. That's what really makes it difficult. Most rap songs really don't have any kind of a theme or a purpose or a story to tell. I think that's one of the best ways to tell the difference between a good rapper and a bad rapper.

i agree fully. Also, Bustas' videos are an exception to the rule, for sure. That is in no doubt due to the fact, that he is a good rapper, and thus retains creativity in his videos. ;)

I wanna see a skyline in one.

They would probably have it with 20 inch chrome spinners, a huge crappy looking body kit and a sound system filling the interior.
You'd probably want the guy knee capped. :P
I'm sure I saw a 350Z in a rap video once.

duke......i honestly didnt think you could post something that ignorant:eek:

the same goes with rock music and just about everything else though.

oh hell..........music videos suck in general...with the exception of busta rhymes and ludacris

Indeed, most music videos today suck. It doesn't matter what genre its from. They all look the same. A few of the exceptions that have already been stated are Busta Rhymes and sometimes Ludacris. You have to admit, in the "Stand Up" video, his head on the baby dancing around was pretty original.

How about an absolute lack of talent and imagination by the guys that shoot the video? (Should shoot themselves while they are at it)

Check out Rah Digga & Busta Rhymes - Imperial.

Its fairly standard yet just to see Busta sitting down at a table breaking no sweat just MC'ing is pretty cool.

But yeah I just stick with the music.

Because angry kids in affluent neighborhoods are boring and spoiled. Not angry('cept rumple).;) The Industry is exploiting their position in culture and they seem to buy into it. Even the roots of rap such as NWA have been mellowed by money. Wow....angry millionaires. Sex, Drugs, and the culture of lower classes easily grab hold of teens and their angst. Why would the Industry stop?
+ Write what you know.

No, there's always an Escalade, EXT, or H2.

And apparently, the RX-8 is getting in on the action too. I've seen it in that bulls*it Britney Spears/Madonna video, and the old new Ludacris song.

If you guys are really interested in seeing a rap/hip-hop group that has some pretty cool videos, please visit the Jurassic-5 website. I think their videos are way different from the mainstream crap everyone is used to.

and whats the problem with that buddy? Do you like stock looking vehicles? If so you are pretty damn lame. Cars with rims are just like anything else in this world, they are something to spend money on to make someone different from another. Quit being ignorant.

GC: You forgot the Bentley:P
