Why is force feedback so strong?

It's kind of annoying. I mean, I have to set my DFGT wheel to a 3 in FF. It feel unrealistic to me at anything above that setting. I initially set it on 7 because I thought it would heighten the experience, but instead, it annoyed me. Driving over a rumble strips feels like I'm off roading. Even with the power steering on, driving at 100 MPH and turning on a sweeper feels like I'm parking a car with no power steering . The high FF settings are just a no go for me. And it also made my wheel get warm and hot after a night's racing.

Try turning it down to 1

With my G25 it's not that strong I have it set to 8 or 9.
No problems there.
 
If you think the FFB in GT5 is strong, you should try something like Ferrari Challenge or even Dirt 2. The FFB in GT5, if anything, is too weak. I feel pretty disconnected from the road most of the time because there's barely any feedback through my DFGT at the max FFB level. When I roll over rumble strips, it feels nothing like I imagine it should, especially when I'm driving a low car with a stiff suspension.

And what wheel do you use? If you're talking about the power assist in the options, that's not going to make a difference if you're using a DFGT or G25/7, I think. That's for the older wheels like the GT Force.

Also, it's fine if your wheel gets warm. Mine gets warm after a lap or two on the Nurburgring. After all, it does have a motor in it.
 
The FF on my bog-basic DF-EX is nowhere near strong enough :grumpy:

I have it set to 10 and imo 20 would be more like it :D
 
If you think the FFB is strong in GT5 you should try driving a Cateram 7 Superlight in real life, lmfao! The FFB in GT5 is very weak indeed compared to most cars that don't have power steering like the aforementioned Cateram, I have a G25 with FFB set to 10 & find it's just not enough compared to certain real life cars.
 
When i first started, i had mine at 10, then later on the game when i first recieved the minolta, i found it way too strong at turned it down to 1, ive been raxing like it ever since.
 
If you think it's too strong in GT5 a PC game like RFactor or GTR would rip your little arms off.
 
On my DFP, it feels way too weak even on 10. It is ok to feel the car most of the time but not strong enough to get the "right" feeling.

You should train your muscles. Don´t know, how that FFB can be too strong.

FFB in gt5 is weak compared to many other sims, but compared to real life I dont think its weak. Unlike what many on GTP thinks a wheel wont rip your arms off in real life...

Try a wheel with real FFB, like the G25/27 or a T500RS. ;)

So true. I have driven many, many cars in real life, including sports cars, super cars and open wheel race cars, and driving them for several hours was never a problem, yet I can't race GT5 with my G25 set at 10 FFB for more than half an hour or so...

Harder is not the same as more realistic.
 
I used to think the FFB in my wheel was a too strong when I first got it, but I believe my wheel has 'broken in' a bit since then, and it's gotten more mellow. Some of that might be that I have just broken in a bit too, but not all. I used to run 1-3 FFB, and now I'm at 7. I could barely hold a straight line for a while.

Or do you mean too strong compared to other games?

Those who think the FFB is to weak have maybe a worn out wheel. With my G25 it is very strong. Of course it depends what tyres you use. But in general I use FFB 3. FFB 10 would be way to high, especially for offroad.

And Cavallo Rosso is right, the strong FFB is a bit to heavy at low speeds imho. I have a car with no power steering in real. And the wheel is not as heavy as GT5 above FFB 5, even with power steering in GT5.

Exactly! It has nothing to do with me being weak, it's just that it feels unrealistic to struggle turning the wheel while at idle speed. And that's with the power steering on.

I set mine at 10 and its a piece of cake

If you drive go karts its about the same as 10

need to do some exercise man

although if its a car like the Ferrari F10 it may maneouver too much its not like the F2007 that car is easier than a lotus elise

When i was doing the Vettel challenges the wheel was overheating because the FFB is too strong and violent. With the rally challenges i did some of them with my PS3 pad just to give my wheel a break because of how rough it is offroad.

Could use 1 being much weaker, and a better gradient going up to 10.


On iRacing, Rfactor and GTR2 my FFB is considerably weaker (but more detailed) than in GT5.


Also : Karts the same as 10 on GT5? I think not, Kart steering is much heavier, and feels completely different.

your wheel will only overheat at the first 6+ months


just like a supercar its neccesary to break-in the engine because my cousin has a 2008 997 GT2 and when he first bought it he was told to only run the car with certain max rev then after 1000 km I think thats the time he could be able to rev it to its optimum shifting rev

Mhh are you using 900 degree steering? If not, you might want to setup 10-20 % of deadzone to your wheel. The shaking on straights is a bit over exagerated in GT5 i think.
When you have 900 degrees on the wheel you should feel way less shaking and you will also get used to FF 10.
(Besides that, have you driven a Race car with no power steering in real life? I havent, but i can imagine the high amount of concentration and muscles needed to handle such cars over more than a straight)

Because cars are really heavy. True answer. In real life, it tires your arms rather quickly.

For which game?

For rFactor and GTR it helps a whole lot to get the logitech wingman profiler software rather than just plug and play. The difference is huge and you can adjust a lot more on your wheel and customize all your settings. I play GTR 2 with the FFB on about 50% and that is stronger than GT5's FFB. On 100% I'd have to set up wheel stand or clear anything breakable off the desk I'm attaching the wheel too because it will shake that strongly. GT5 can be great fun, but it's just another thing that makes me wish I had a decently good gaming PC so I could just play racing sims there and have GT5 for driving around in random vehicles. Both would be ideal, though.
 
As a starter, I think most people are confusing steering resistance with feedback... making the wheel harder to turn (higher FF) does not in my experience increase the level of feedback in relation to how the car is behaving.

And personally, I think running high FF levels in GT5 is not the best way to help yourself run quickly.

I started at FF10 when I 1st got my G25 a couple of years ago, and it's a great way to learn to use a wheel as it pretty much forces you to to make smooth steering inputs. But with the FF set that high it's difficult to make very small corrections once you've committed to a line... it almost forces you to use the throttle to adjust your line rather than a combination of throttle and wheel.

With FF in the 1-3 range and a lighter grip on the wheel you'll find it much easier to finely adjust your steering angle, both to correct a slide and to adjust your line.

I'd think you'd find almost all the fastest GTP wheel drivers are using low FF settings.
 
I don't understand it either. With a G25/G27 and FFB at the highest level, with most cars, under most circumstances, the FFB in GT5 has all the resistance of a wet noodle. It's not even close to the level of a real car.
 
You guys must be running faulty wheels, because my G27 in GT5 provides a LOT more resistance than a real car in GT5, and a lot more than other racing games and as i've said i only run it at 1/10

Unless were talking go-karts or cars with broken powersteering here.
 
I keep it on 10. The FFB in GT4 is much stronger. That's the first thing I noticed when I popped in GT5.

The only time I find the FFB annoying is the back and forth motion in the X2010 on straights, and the F10 which causes the wheel to rattle/vibrate at high speeds.

Try a 3 pt turn in a MK 2 Golf without power steering! The FFB aint got nothing. :)

That's nothing, I once drove an 1984 passat estate around a multi-storey car park. My arms were buff and ripped afterwards!:lol:

Don't even talk about the clutch pedal!
