Why is it called chicane?

it probably comes from the meaning of the word, which is to trick or cheat. i remembered the word chicaner from college (i was an english lit major - waaaaay too much chaucer);) i'll admit i had to look it up, but the middle french/english/germanic translation is to to quibble, or prevent justice.
i looked it up on an online thesaurus and it came up with: bamboozle, befool, flimflam, fool, gull, hoax, hoodwink, trick, victimize.
mix all of that together and my guess is that you have a turn designed to fool a driver. hopefully someone else can come up with a more solid definition.:)

I've been meaning to ask this question for so long! Now that I know the definition of the word ... what is the best example of a chicane in GT3? I know that loosely it's a quick left to right, or right to left turn, but those are also sometimes refered to just as S-turns. Is there a difference, or are there just two names used for the same track arangement?
