Go to any STi forum or Evo forum and the guys there will tell you the Evo is faster (stock and mod for mod), and the STi is the better daily driver. But in this game the Evo is slower stock and modded? Why?

I can confirm that STi is faster in GT5 than Evo.

I think because its easier to drive? Or maybe Evo needs higher skill to get the most out of it?

The Evo X's AYC is pretty terrible, making it swerve on straights for wheel users. That could be some of the issue. I wasn't really aware there was such a clear difference between them in real life.

I think some of the difference could be because of the STI's different spec. The ones ('07 + '10) in GT5 is the JDM version which has more power and a close ratio gearbox that is different from what is offered to the rest of the world.

We ask those questions for a lot of cars, in a lot of areas. I haven't pitted these two against each other yet, but I do believe IRL the Impreza has a pretty handy lead at the Nurb currently, not that that means much anymore since it's very possible no professional rally driver has taken the EVO out yet.

Because it's only a game. Look at DTM cars from 2000 being not only competitive but at the top of the pack in-game while in real life there was a situation where some teams were stuck with last year's Opels and it meant they were essentially racing in their own little sub-league because there was no way they could even get close to the newer Audis and Benzes. And those were all cars limited to the exact same power output and weight, running on spec tires.

And these are the fastest and damn close times on the Nordschleife in GT5.
07:52.943 - Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STI Spec C 04 (hjlamont)
07:53.859 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII GSR '01 (Alex p.)

07:54.154 - Subaru Impreza WRX STi '10 (Andy89)
07:59.648 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR '07 (Andy89)

It was like this in GT4 too. The Impreza would always beat the Evo of the same year. Impreza's are usually lighter and with a little more power, so that's an advantage right off the bat. The Evo does well to keep up actually.

I love this post....be it I own a 2005 STI as my daily driver....real life...:-) I'll have to run some laps in both stock rides...haven't done that yet in GT5, thanks!!

Well, on this forum you're talking about, are they talking about Evo vs. Sti on a track?

This is actually the first time I'm hearing this. I've always been a fan of the Evo, but even that, I've always admittingly thought the STi is faster around a track than the Evo. It's easy to see that specwise in terms of power to weight ratio, and torque. It was actually always like this for me in past GTs. Evo is really always the car with the better handling.

Mitsubishi's commander-in-chief/presidente/president/supreme general of awesome/🤬 idiot is currently drawing mitsubishi out of motorsports in general and aiming for more of a family-esque brand conversion, which sucks for one of the best rivalries ever. ~_~

Sufficient to say that you probably will not see Evos and Scoobirex's running on the same level the further into the future we go 👎

Yeah on a track. It's pretty much common knowledge within the Evo Sti community that the Evo is faster. Much cheaper to make fast mod for mod. The better car for the track. Many STi drivers were wowed after driving an Evo and wanting to switch to the dark side. My theory is that the STi is faster because it's the JDM STi, which is much faster than the USDM STi. They also probably screwed up the Evo like someone else was saying.

Basically, they're aiming for a more eco-friendly type car, which to say is disheartening being an Evo fan. They did promise it would be the best EVo in terms of handling and sportiness, but I am certainly not counting on that.

This might end the rivalry which we won't be able to do in future GT games.

yet ironically, i manage to make an evo 10 perform quicker on the rally courses by seconds compared to the sti 11 and even the wrc, all bone stock. personally i prefer the sti though xD

i believe it all comes down to preference and a knowledge on how to handle the car. yes, specs have become more diverse in terms of power and such since gt4 (a good 7 years ago might i add) but in the end, if you know how to manage the evos understeer or the stis pretty nice rear oversteer, you can set quick times in both cars that can make either car before better than the others.

and for the record, i really wish the evo wasnt turning into an eco car. the evo was mitsubishis best, if only popular car in terms of sales (sorry if im ignoring other models, but the evo was just so much better selling than all their other models i believe). and they probably just trashed it. they even admitted they had a large market for it and they still binned it. i dunno what theyre doing... yet ironically, subaru is branching out the impreza and the sti/wrx to allow all 3 models perform in specific motorsports...

wth mitsubishi...

Testing both of these cars (both selected from the 'arcade-only' list in arcade mode) on my custom-made test track reveals the following results:

Subaru IMPREZA Sedan WRX STI (18 Inch Wheel Option) '10: 1:50.29

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR Premium Package '07: 1:52.09

Difference: 0:01.80

And here is why:

Subaru IMPREZA Sedan WRX STI (18 Inch Wheel Option) '10: 309 HP, 1490 KG
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR Premium Package '07: 281 HP, 1540 KG

The Subaru is much lighter and has more horsepower than the Mitsubishi, giving the Subaru an advantage in acceleration, top speed, and handling.

Im not gonna lie i feel like the new sti is faster too cause its extremely hard keeping up in the evo 10.. and im a evo guy

Good question because its not true at least in US spec cars.

I test drove both IRL in 2008. Both are exceptional cars but the Evo was the more agile and more fun to drive of the 2. Track tests of those models at the time confirm the Evo's superior handling.

I'm a fan of both cars (had an 02 WRX) and wanted to really like the new STI,
but I ended up with the X. 32K miles later and I'm thrilled to drive it every day.

Does the US STI have pretty crap specs of something? The UK one has more power and weighs less than the Evo X FQ300 and costs about 6 grand less....

I don't know about UK, but the JDM STI's in the game are a whole different beast than the USDM STIs. Revs, to 8K instead of 6.5K, lighter, different suspension, 2.0L twin scroll.
