With grip reduction set to real, racing in the wet is pretty f--king cool. The dry line becomes slippery as it does in real life. Thus forcing drivers to adapt and focus more on corner exit speed. From having several real world wet weather track experiences, i will say that GT5 represents physics and other wet weather characteristics really well. I would like to see more dynamic conditions pertaining to individual tracks. Like puddling effects, wet spots, dry areas (areas with good runoff) etc. but that might be asking too much, or I just haven’t noticed it…
As for the people who feel that wet conditions are boring, slow, or don't allow one drive the car to its limits let me say this...
-Wet conditions apply to everyone in a race, they are not selective to just YOU!!!
-Yes the pace of racing is slower than dry conditions, but entering a corner @50mph in the wet as opposed to ~80mph in the dry is no less exciting. When taking my M3 on track weekends I always hope for rain. It forces a real seat of the paints experience. Constantly searching for grip and traction teaches you quickly on what the limit is. High performance driving in the wet is also a great way improve things like throttle modulation, the principles of over/understeer at slower/safer speeds, and overall smooth driving. Most importantly the rain conserves the amount of rubber that I give to the track thus saving me $$$. Other than spending money on new tires, these ideas/skills transfer over to virtual driving in GT5 nicely.
-Those who say you can’t reach the limits of a car in the wet so it must not be fun; I say this. Yes you can…its called reaching the limits of the car in wet conditions, which for me is equally important. In truly wet conditions the idea of “drag racing” out of corners becomes extremely important. Knowing that a good straight-line car (high hp) is sometimes more effective for lower lap times in the wet than a nimble lightweight is fairly useful. I would be willing to bet that these people often don’t know the true limits of a car in dry conditions and make these type statements as a way of avoiding a new challenge…
IDK, just want to see more weather lobbies with online races
