Why is "weather" rarely used in online racing

I can't figured this one out? After all the hype GT fans made about dynamic weather prior to the games release, i can't understand why it is seldomly used. Not only are wet conditions fun to drive in, but having just the chance of showers on a track like the ring can lead to some excitement (pit strategy, tire choice, racing line, etc...) Having a weather circuit with sunny conditions set to (fixed) also bugs me. My guess is that folks think that it is to hallenging or makes the racing to slow??

Want to know what others think on this and if we need more lobbies on "weather" circuits???

Probably because it's only a few tracks. The other reason would be people don't like the slipperiness of rain, as a lot of weather races have high rain grip, which basically means the weather is reduced to scenery.

I like to use it, with grip set to real. Though I haven't had much luck getting those rooms filled.

Because with racing slicks and driving aids off it takes 25 minutes to do one lap of the Nurburgring 24hr track in a Zonda R.

people cant race without racing soft tyres.... im sick of it. my lobbies have sport soft as highest

I wish that people used the weather more in the online races. It's a great challenge.

Anyway... If you're talking about a longer race at La Sarthe or Nurburgring, it would be cool if we had a "weather report" that you could pull up on a menu or have a "crew chief" giving you a "rain is 5 minutes away. Pit this lap" call over the radio. I think that would add some realisim to longer races with dynamic weather.

I would guess technical limitations. You're dealing with different online connections per user, multiple cars on the track and then the added weather effects, even on the PC I think there would be some hiccups.

It seems like 50% of players can't drive in the dry nevermind the rain. Either a pile up would occur or people would just quit and we're left with only a very few.

Weather races rarely ever turn out good unless it's an organized race.

'Cause driving in rain with the decrease in performance is a lot less fun then driving in dry conditions where you can open the car up fully!

Driving in the Rain can be a pain in the ass.

When I race, I hate rain.
When I time trial/test cars, I hate rain.
When I drive for no reason, I love rain.

Whenever I host lobbies on the Nurburgring...

When I do lobbies on SSR7...

it snows. :p

Or at least I've gotten it to happen once.

people shouldnt race with racing tyres / why people use race tyres is the most stupid thing i have ever heard

i use race tyres because its a RACE , they called race tyres because its made for racing..therefor race tyres are used for racing :D

This is off topic but... everybody who use R. softs will never experience the great GT5 driving physics, overall if you use them in a Daihatsu Move...

I once set up a one lap race, on the Nurburgring 24hour wet circuit, using NASCARS only, Comfort Hards and all driving aids turned off:ouch:

It turned out to be silly, hilarious, but fun at the same time:D

Maybe the glitch that, once it's raining, allows you to have the same grip as if it were dry with racing tires has something to do. It's stupid to host a rain race if you can use racing slicks and have the same grip as with dry conditions. So the only way to have a proper wet race is 1) have a strict host who makes sure that everyone is sporting rain tires (only if there's no tire restriction in the lobby) or 2) if the lobby is limited to production cars, limit the tires to a level that suits the PPs of the cars that are going to be raced.

This second idea is rather difficult, since most lobbies have no tire limits, which is really annoying, but that's off topic so I´ll leave it here :)

It's not a glitch, it's the host setting grip to "high". Makes rain pointless. At least I've never heard of this glitch.

I think that people never uses weather on, because it's annoying when you just started a new lap at Nürburgring 24H and starts to rain....

At least sport softs make sense. Who the **** creates a lobby with a racing medium restriction?! Who the **** buys racing mediums >:[

Offtopic: It seems that I am the **** who buys racing mediums...

Maybe you´re right and it´s not a glitch, but I remember having read about it. I don´t know where nor when though, most likely false info :ouch:

i think many of the drivers cant adapt to rain with rain u need to be smooth or u spin.
many players who have been in my rain lobby's drive like they do in the dry and so cause pile ups
if they had more rain races in a-spec then the quality of players might be higher but we don't so were always gonna have pile ups
i also buy mediums

With grip reduction set to real, racing in the wet is pretty f--king cool. The dry line becomes slippery as it does in real life. Thus forcing drivers to adapt and focus more on corner exit speed. From having several real world wet weather track experiences, i will say that GT5 represents physics and other wet weather characteristics really well. I would like to see more dynamic conditions pertaining to individual tracks. Like puddling effects, wet spots, dry areas (areas with good runoff) etc. but that might be asking too much, or I just haven’t noticed it…

As for the people who feel that wet conditions are boring, slow, or don't allow one drive the car to its limits let me say this...

-Wet conditions apply to everyone in a race, they are not selective to just YOU!!!

-Yes the pace of racing is slower than dry conditions, but entering a corner @50mph in the wet as opposed to ~80mph in the dry is no less exciting. When taking my M3 on track weekends I always hope for rain. It forces a real seat of the paints experience. Constantly searching for grip and traction teaches you quickly on what the limit is. High performance driving in the wet is also a great way improve things like throttle modulation, the principles of over/understeer at slower/safer speeds, and overall smooth driving. Most importantly the rain conserves the amount of rubber that I give to the track thus saving me $$$. Other than spending money on new tires, these ideas/skills transfer over to virtual driving in GT5 nicely.

-Those who say you can’t reach the limits of a car in the wet so it must not be fun; I say this. Yes you can…its called reaching the limits of the car in wet conditions, which for me is equally important. In truly wet conditions the idea of “drag racing” out of corners becomes extremely important. Knowing that a good straight-line car (high hp) is sometimes more effective for lower lap times in the wet than a nimble lightweight is fairly useful. I would be willing to bet that these people often don’t know the true limits of a car in dry conditions and make these type statements as a way of avoiding a new challenge…

IDK, just want to see more weather lobbies with online races

It would be fun to have wet races online. Much more challenging and mistakes are magnified greatly.

Just one problem. Many people online have a hard time racing in the dry so forget about the wet.

If you wanna try a wet race sometime send me a message.
