I would like to disagree with that:Most of the stock exhausts in GT5 actually sound good, like the Gallardo and 458. It's the tuned exhausts that sound like crap. Put a racing exhaust on the Aventador and you'll want to mute the audio. If PD could get the tuned exhaust sounds right, the complaints will halve.

And don't try to argue with the YouTube quality, and "speakers improve your sound" stuff, because the GT5 videos sound almost exactly the same as on my sound system.
Besides the inaccurate engine sounds, another reason why the cars don't sound like they should is because of the gear changing sounds - the way the engine behaves during a gear change, for lack of a better explanation. If you would look at a video of a Nissan GT-R on YouTube in real life, you'd find that the gear changes are very smooth. In GT5, the car's gear changes aren't very smooth. Same with the Aventador (Note the complete lack of effort at even replicating the Aventador's sound by PD while you're watching):
