Is it the speed, the sense of control or perhaps the danger?

And mostly city, countryside or the highway? I have to go with the countryside, having great company and music!

All the above

I drive all surfaces at high speed with lots of control and a great adrenaline rush.

^But mostly what is it that makes you enjoy driving? There should be some slight preference at least.

Driving is one of the most therapeutic things I can do for myself. There;s something satisfying about throwing my Tracker/Samurai/Vitara at a muddy corner, holding the slide, and then getting back on the gas. The feeling that every time most times I screw up, and am able to recover, I learn a little bit. I like getting better, and I like the feeling that I have some of the ability to drive quickly and be safe. It's the edge of the envelope. When you push it, and you make it stick, you feel great, like a major pro.

Granted, people who frequent this subforum will know that I once nearly sent my car off a cliff... but I've gotten to be a much better driver since then. Driving on a set course for time gives you active feedback.

It's fun. I love it. I wish I could do it more.

For me, when I was young, I associated driving with freedom (meaning I could go where ever I wanted to go whenever I wanted), now, it's more of a escape for me, after a long day at work, sometimes, I'd enjoy taking the car out and just cruising in the middle of the night with no traffic (a lot less, I wish there was no traffic) and clear my head.

But unfortunately, where I'm at, reckless drivers are really taking the joy out of driving.

Because I have an inadequacy in my pants and fast cars, loud music, and big guns make me feel powerful and manly.

It's just fun really, I don't particularly know why I find it more fun than anything else I just do.

I suppose it's because I like cars and I like driving them,I like the feeling when you get a corner right and the feeling you get when you catch a slide.

Favourite roads to drive on would probably be B or A roads late at night when they're not busy.

I enjoy the challenge of trying to do it better than I did the time before.

For me it would be none of the things listed above, it would be the ability to customize my wheels how I want it and the amazing engine noises :) !

Too bad GT5's engine sound effects aren't nearly as good. Not my video by the way.

Maybe its because I drive a crappy 1.4L '98 Corolla but I don't pay attention to the engine sounds. Mostly radio and music. It would take a Lambo or Viper to get me pumped up for the engine sound!

That video I posted up there was a Honda Civic... LOL .

EDIT: Sounds a little bit like Ferrari F40 in GT5. Oh and the guy who uploaded that video did another video of them going 180 mph in the same Civic :scared: :

Sense of control
Speed

(This is for a bike because you can't really go 140mph on a public road.)
I love the feeling of being able to think the bike where to go and to be able to just pitch it in a slide it around. Squirrly under braking and floats off of the corners yeah!

The speed part is fun when you're barreling through a forest, trees and branches whipping by.

All of the above.

Especially speed. Being an American, apparently we have an obsession to go fast. I mean, we want to see how fast we can get our car to go lol

All of those, but the sense of control in the first place. The fact that every movement of the car depends only on my ability to control it. When with every gear shift, every wheel turn you get more and more involved into driving. You start to test your limits of what you can do with the car. Every fast corner makes you feel better and better.

Being a good driver with a low powered car > having an overpowered car and no idea how to drive.

All of the above plus this. Usually I love taking my car out for hot lap around the "hood" haha but sometimes it just helps to get a clear head.

Nice hood there! Do you have wide roads? Because in my hood the roads are barely 7 feet wide (parked cars left and right) and pedestrians pop out any time. :scared:

👍

For me, freedom mostly. My favourite thing about driving isn't any of the listed things, it's the freedom to travel, see stuff along the way, stop more or less wherever I please, and experience my surroundings. My motoring life is dedicated to finding the perfect road trip car for that reason.

I also prefer the sensation of going fast, rather than the outcome of it. In other words, I prefer slow cars that feel fast, rather than fast cars in which you don't experience the sensations of speed. And why I prefer tiny English B-roads doing no more than 40-50mph to the irrelevancy of barreling down a motorway at 100+.

I enjoy driving for multiple reasons, but at my age its mostly because of the freedom that comes with being able to go where I want when I want. I like the feel of the car on the road beneath me, too. It's hard to sum up, but it feels gratifying to look at my car and feel proud that I own it and can drive it. The windows down, the music up, and the empty road ahead just screams freedom and relaxation.

Freedom, expression, control, exhillaration, adrenaline, peace....

Well, everything listed. Mostly I like taking bends quickly, though my parents don't (I've only got my permit at the moment). I went around a motorway on-ramp at about 40 mph and my dad told me off. I think the recommended speed was 35, but he thinks it's the end of the world if you go round one of those too fast.

The magical Illusion of control at the limit (unforeseen obstacles) ..... on & off the track ...

DK ...

In the begining(when I was younger) it was the danger and the speed.
First car was a 66 stang fastback. Then many more stangs a 75 Trans AM and many other then the latest car was a Hemi Charger.

Now I enjoy the going to new places seeing new things.
Now I enjoy driving at 3-5MPH in places like this (Black Bear Pass Colorado)
Colorado165.jpg

I've been down that trail once a year on my vacation since 2009
its very relaxing to me.

I wouldn't even walk next to that

It's relaxing and allows me to clear my head when I'm doing it for pleasure. Driving where you want to, exploring back roads, and getting lost only to find some place awesome, that's why I drive for pleasure. If I can drop the windows and put some good tunes on it's even better.

The work commute can be entertaining at times too since here in the Detroit area we all commute in heavy traffic doing 80-90mph while jockeying for position. It's even more interesting in the snow since the speed really isn't toned down all that much. Most of the time though it's pretty mundane, especially when I leave for work around 6:30 and traffic is light. I just get in the middle lane and cruise with the flow of traffic.

As a new driver (I'm 17), the biggest thing is the freedom. It's nice having the freedom to just grab my keys and go visit my girlfriend, my friend, or go where I want. I also find it relaxing and therapeutic when I'm stressed out. If I'm worked up and need to relax, there's a road that goes by the lake, it's relaxing to go that way and roll the windows down, play some music, and drive.

I mean, I only drive a Corolla, I'm excited to actually have a driver's car at some point. I'm lucky in where I live, it's all country roads and I live on a town next to Lake Erie, there's some really nice scenic roads to drive on.

Also, I do love driving hard and the feeling of speed. I really can't get that in the Corolla, but my mom's Golf and dad's Touareg are both diesels. The torque in the Touareg especially is just a ton of fun. It's hilarious how quick something so heavy can get moving. I like my mom's Golf the best though, it's more fun to drive.

I dunno, it's just awesome to drive where you want to go, when you want to go. I'm planning a trip to Nova Scotia (just under 2000 km each way) and I'm almost as excited for the drive as the destination. I can't wait. It'll be an absolutely fantastic trip if I get my mom's golf, and will be slightly less amazing with the Corolla (less comfortable).

I said sense of control but I really just love connecting with the car and making it move fast. I've always had an interest in all kinds of racing and just mastering technical aspects of sport, getting in the car just brings out that excitement.

I definitely do not have a thing for the danger of it. If I liked danger, I'd get a bike. Definitely the cheapest way to go fast, but I'd rather not put my health on the line like that.

I like the feeling of refining and perfecting a track or road. There's nothing like the feeling when you know that you've absolutely nailed the line, braking, and acceleration points through a tough corner. I really enjoy working with weight transfer, as well, and you can really feel it when you've gotten it right in a production-based car. Even going single lane on a twisty public road, and not pushing, you can still get the same sensations.

Admittedly I also like racing and winning, but those only exist on the track. Playing cat and mouse around the course, outdriving much faster cars, posting fast lap times, it's all awesome.

If i have to drive anywhere i usually take the long way round, bad for petrol but i love driving. I just enjoy the feeling of sitting behind the wheel, and watching the world go by, and also the sense of purpose i get from driving somewhere.
And when i do get there my ass may ache (sports seats) my arms might be tense but i just think that two hours ago i was at home, and now im on the south coast looking out to sea.
Also knowing that i could get up, get my keys, start up the car and could drive anywhere in the country....just because i can.

I could go on and on...
