well, ive been playing the prologue since it first came out in JPN and now on the UK PAL edition.

Let me tell you, the standard of driving online has not gotten any better, infact i think it has gone down.

my concern is the mentality of seemingly 8 out of 10 drivers being the sole objective to beat you by - ramming you off the track.

these are the people who cannot drive side by side down a straight without attempting to jerk you off into a wall, or put you into a spin. the drivers who cannot fathom braking distances for hairpins and like to use opponent cars to keep them on the circuit at the expense of ofthe guy in front who takes a trip down into the gravel.

THEN you have the cheaters, the ones who deliberately find the gaps and trick logic int he race course system. think Suzuka (650pp meh)... get round corner 1 skip the next 2 bends by going strauight over the grass..:/

bad

then theres the 90 degree right hander slightly futher u that every one seems to just completely cut, with zero penalty from PD. Think Fujita circuit, the way that 90% of drivers cut the hairpin 2-3 into the race.. no penalty...

IF you as a driver are racing against these guys its virtually impossible to cath them up if they are cutting every other corner and you are trying to remain "on track". you either get bumped off, or burnt off by cheaters.

i love GT ive played them all, bought consoles just for a GT A Thon, but im afraid that the onlone play completely ruins the experience. Damage wont help matters, probably make the situation worse. Penalty system sucks, they ram me, nothing happens, they cut corner ... nothing happens, except they gain time and i lose time.

some races particular drivers have got me so wound up that i have had to go on a revenge nudge myself. this isnt what i wanted from online GT.

Is there any hope?

It depends what sort of racers you're playing against. Usually, the beginner and intermediate races have more evil intentioned racers.
If you want good clean racing where people actually slow down if they ram you (out of kindness - not penatly) then try the expert events - especially those listed in the race section. If you are PAL, then look out for the next dutch customs event. This provides a time and cars for people to race in a non competative form. Most of these racers (me included) would much rather have a really good race with lots of passes and come 3rd instead of being a menace to everyone and getting 15k more prize money.
The first dutch customs event finnished in the middke of the week and it went down a scream with stories of 3 cars wide into the entry corner of daytona road - without touching.
If you want any more info of these events, just PM me. I've made alot of friends with some of these racers over the last week.

Until we have private rooms you HAVE to be in a gtp race or you will not find any good racing.

Pretty simple

To be honest the races online are not bad at all, atleast in pro races. My problem is, there are only 3 racers including me when i race online.

Totally disagree.

I have seen nothing but an increase in drivers talent and respect towards other racers the past couple months.

Yes, Christmas brought out a new batch of noobs but the carnage is not as bad as when the game first came out.

As an example, yesterday for 6 hours I raced at HSR with a full grid almost everytime. With the exception of 2 races where bashers showed up, It was an absolute blast. CLEAN, FAST, FUN!!! My guess is that those bashers showed up thinking they could run expert class because it has been available to them all the time in beginner and intermed. They guessed wrong. They were outclassed, outraced and disgraced.:dopey::dopey:

Clean, respectful racing is out there. You just gotta go find it. Use the XMB to post start times in your message box to ensure your buddies know where and when to race. Its not a perfect system but it works to fill a room with your friends and very few outsiders.
I don't sport a tag/badge but I manage to race several GTPers daily using this method.👍

Use every tool available to you now while we wait for all those things promised to us by PD. (broken promises=broken trust):grumpy:

I only race in Expert events where the crashers and bashers are few. They (C & B) don't seem to like pro physics.:sly: get into pro races for a cleaner, funner(is that a word) time.

To answer the thread title - no Online won't kill GT.

The unfortunate circumstance is that the online idiots outnumber the clean drivers, and they will all buy the game anyway, regardless of how good the online is.

But, thats not the point of this topic is it? Its just yet another rant about online drivers.
May I point out that you don't have to use the online mode? It doesn't exactly "ruin" the offline experience does it? Online isn't the be all and end all of gaming, despite what popular opinion states.

And like people have said, don't judge the Prologue online system as representative of the finished, full, product of GT5. We will have private rooms to get rid of the idiots.

Until we have private rooms you HAVE to be in a gtp race or you will not find any good racing.

Wrong.
This is something I hope I don't see when it comes to the full GT5, elitism is possibly worse than being a punter.

Many people that signed up to GTP in the recent months were non-GTP'ers before racing us lot, if we start assuming all non-GTP drivers are up to no good then we will be setting a bad example ourselves. The GTP tag is a symbol of clean racing, not an elitist group of drivers. We should treat all drivers with the proper respect.

This has been my experience over the past month. Maybe America is different. I've ended up racing in Arcade Mode for some entertainment, and the bots race almost exactly like the folk I've been online with, well mannered and any impacts are clearly accidents.

Well said Ardius:tup:

Come on out for a few laps at Suzuka with the Ferrari F430 on N1's.

Either drive properly or be lapped repeatedly.

It is a sad fact that we have to race with very little grip in order to reduce the number of idiots. But NO online wont kill GT. Whene the full version comes out I probably wont be online for mounths. I will be to busy building a Garage of cars and trying to get that 100% mark.

Online is important on games like COD4 where you can complete the single player game in 3 hours. But in Gran Turismo it has always been about racing in single player mode. A few idiots in online races are not going to kill off probably one of the best selling car racing games of all time.

I stopped playing online around Christmas hoping that all the punters who weren't hardcore fans would become bored. After I'm finished collecting all the cars (5 left) I will try racing online again.

before spec 3 came i very very rarely saw a bad driver on pro mode, since spec three hit the show online has become much worse in pro

I stopped playing GT5P around christmas time due to the lack of anyone online. Private rooms is the answer to the problem of punters and dirty drivers so we`ll just have to wait to GT5 is released for that. Most expert races with GT5P tagged racers will get you a clean fun race, there are a few non GT5P tagged drivers out there who can hold their own and are clean courteous racers too, just finding them amongst the punters or dirty drivers is the challenge.

okay i had some faith restored today, did a race on suzuka 550p pro mode vs 1 other player.

he shunted me off BIG TIME down a corner, but then he waited up for me to catch up again. and i think i shunted him (inadvertantly he was laggint to FCUK) and i waited for him so int he end it was a reasonable race.

i have completed the game, in so much that i have all the classes passed...mnostly golds a few tough bronze out there such as Ferrari A class Daytona infield challenge but i need something new to race against so online is the only option really..

Remember this, everyone who is not from GTP, sucks. Therfore, they can only win by being a b***h on the track.

Proper racing forums like ours will keep Gran Turismo online alive and kicking forever, but proper organized events is where the massive percentage of us will enjoy proper gentlemanly racing for as long as were all interested in this fantastic driving simulation. Ultimately Gran Turismo online could never kill GT...Thats my two penneth worth....:):)👍👍:gtpflag:

Wow I'm just going to quote myself only a few posts before yours:

If you're going to act elitist about it, please don't use a GTP tag ever.

people who have a GTP_tag treat everybody with respect. I race without one and only people in the know (usually the Australian PAL crew) know i'm from GTP. The ones who don't still treat me real well.
Not everyone without a GTP tag is rubbish (granted - some of them are). I hear stories and have come across many "lone rangers", and when I ask them if they are a GTP member, they say no - but they look out for us in order to get a good race.
It's all about attitude - and GTP hasn't changed mine, nor anyone else's attitude towards others when racing. You either have it or you don't. But if you don't, the goodwill of others may shape the way you drive in the future.

Yep. I used to run as 'mad94d' for about 2 months and always treated people well.(even before I found out about GTP) Then I decided to get a GTP_tag and it's fantastic.👍

WOW!!! That could be insulting as all hell if I really cared.

My friends lists is full of non GTP racers who are clean, fast and respectful.
I also have several GTP members on my friends lists because I SPENT THE SEAT TIME BECOMMING A GOOD DRIVER. they know it, I know it. Not one of them has ever mentioned to me about getting a tag or is worried that I don't have one.

Kudos to all of you who sport the GTP tag. I know you all had to earn it. It proves that we are a dedicated bunch.

I come to this site for my friends, the great information it holds, and all that good ****. I shouldn't have to be looked down upon because I don't have a GTP tag, and if you still really feel that way, I'll race you just to prove it.

Guys can I just ask if anybody is going to answer the question asked by the original, or are we just going to carry on moaning about punters online, and discussing TAG vs non TAG?

Here is my answer to the question asked by the original poster. Thets try and get back on track, and leave the Punter discussion to the other 10,000 I GOT RAMMED threads.

Wrong,

There are good races to be had outside of GTP events. The comment you have made, does nothing to help people's views of the GTP tag outside of this site. We are not an elite group of racers, we are a group of racers that enjoy racing online and enjoy doing it in a clean and friendly manner.

We should be showing respect to all on track not just the GTP tag.

Personally, I think the online expert events have never been better. There were a couple of shaky racers at HSR 600 yesterday but that's probably due to some of the beginner and intermediate crew feeling brave and wanting to step up from standard physics. If someone wants to make the jump to expert events, HSR is the track to do it but just remember - no shenanigans please or else.

And to my friend Vermontster - you don't need to prove anything to anyone, tag or no tag. You're top notch in my book and I'm sure I speak for many.

Amen, let me add that I have raced with Vermontster since I began online with GT5P Not so much lately as I dont play GT that much now. Many of the BEST racers I have faced have been non-tagged,including Mr.FatLeadFoot & many many more. The tag its self is easy to get really, its not the be all end all ,its Who you really are when you think no one is watching. I have 4 sub accounts on PS3 and I use them all at different times. Funny thing how some times your treated different when no one knows who you are.
In conclusion I am VERY proud of th GTP tag and when I race with it I feel I should try not to do any thing to make GTP look badly.
