Will GT4 respect auto box or manual as is the real cars?

the M5 V10's torque is much lower compare to its competitor (E55 and RS6)
they are using closer gear ratio to make up the huge amount of torque they dont have.

back on topic.

if u notice the Gear indication HUD, it lights up when the gear is engaged, and it dims when you are clutching in. go back and play GT3, drive a stock car and go change a Level 3 clutch on to it. you can see a big difference in shifting time.

you can see the gear HUD lights up all the time when u are driving an Automatic base car, such as the SL55 and the Evolution VII GT-A. GT Concept was the first GT to implement this.

quite a few cars in GT4:P shift very slow, such as the S2000, Elise, and GC8 WRX. some cars like R34 GTR, shift at a decent speed.

keep in mind that in GT4, it even simulate the throw of the shifter. the longer throw shifter the car has in stock, the longer it takes to change gear.

but what really suprise me is that S2000, Elise, these cars have really slick gear shift, and my grandma can shift faster then the GT4:P shifting simulation for this cars.

exactly, i mentioned about it long ago, i can't understand why S2000 in GT4P shifts very slow.
but again, PD did it well for normal car (slow shift)"except S2000 and Elise", high perfomance car (faster shift), this is due to the clutch, obviously racing clutch engage and disengage faster, that's why the shift is so fast.

and back to the +/- topic
MOST +/- shift cars we can afford use normal auto box with +/- function, like those Acura, Lexus, Mercedes, Audi.

Those high perfomance +/- box in BMW SMG, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Toyota MRS uses manual box with comptuer control clutch.

I would like PD to make the automatic work exactly like the ones in real life. For example, shift earlier (much earlier) under light acceleration, then downshift into another gear when you romp the gas pedal. You know, like how your car's AT (if you drive one with an AT) would work. No car in real life is programmed to shift only at the redline.

Also, notice how automatics have one less gear than those with manuals. For example, the typical car has a five-speed manual with an optional four-speed automatic.

It would also be nice (I'm off topic here, I know) if they implimented all-wheel-drive like the ones in real life. For example, wait for the front or real wheels to spin before sending power to the other two wheels (a la Honda CR-V and the like) with a switch to activate a 50/50% torque split.

Another cool option that should be added is an option to change how fast the ABS pumps the brakes in ABS-equiped vehicles (most likely all the cars in GT4 will have ABS like in the other games). Instead of working (pulsating the brakes at each wheel) at 15 times a second, change it to anything below that. This would be cool because I'd know that they actually created an ABS system for the vehicles rather than progrmmig the cars brakes to not lock up in the game.

Now back to the topic--The automatic transmissions in any game are soooooooo unlife-like.

That's my 2 cents...

you can say it this way
all the racing game with AT is actually automatic shift, doesn't really mean you are driving an automatic car
in other words, the different between manual and auto in most racing games is just the shifting itself, not the transmission.

On a slightly divergent topic, currently, The Renault R24B is the only F1 car with a six speed trannythis season. This (I assume) is because of the fact that it is geared longer down low to help with it ridiculous starts that they have been dazzling the world with this season ( they have prolly the torquiest engine on the grid)

Sorry, I just can'tn stand it any more. Some of you people are getting things mixed up about what's a manual and whats and auto. Audi's DSG gearbox is a manual gearbox - it has a hydraulic clutch: two in fact! The new M5 has a 7-speed manual gearbox - again it has a hydraulic clutch. The Vanquish is a manual too - it's clutch is just hydraulic. See a certain pattern emerging here?

Tiptronics are automatics - they have performance loss against the sequential manuals with the hydraulic clutches.

There is a difference, OK?

I think they should implement performance loss if you use an automatic compared to the manual version. In GT3, there wasn't a big enough incentive to learn manual, though I did anyway! Autos are on average about a second slower in the 0-100 kp/h and use roughly a litre more fuel per 100 kms. THey should give manuals an advantage as in real life.

Your thoughts?
Paddy.

Ah, all this driver-assisted sequential stuff from Formula 1 that's making its way into road cars today is all a load of *insert appropriate term*. Give me a five- or six-speed manual 'box any day!

But the definition of Automatic and Manual in a game is slightly different to the Real World definition. In Automatic, the CPU is changing gears for you (but not necessarily at the optimum time) and in Manual you get to do it yourself so it's a bit smoother and you get a bit more control. So, Epinionator89, I don't think your idea is going to pan out any time soon because then there would be no option for totally-automatic gears (ie CPU does if for you). Unless you're thinking along the lines of two versions of a Manual transmission leaving the Auto as is?

Like I said, we need to make a distinction. But the SL55 simulates the SMG very well. That one isn't hydraulic, btw, is it? Wasn't that a double clutch in fact? And the VVT gearboxes in GT4, or the AT in the Prius, aren't those exactly like the real thing? At least the Prius one is, because I tested the Prius IRL myself two weeks ago.

Incidentally, I think few people know that you can actually delay the Auto-Shift in GT3? I think it was keeping R2 pressed or something.
