Hi. I am new here. I have searched this forum and I couldn't find the information I need. I have asked my cousin to purchase the Japanese version of GT4 for me. Since I have an old PS2 (Model SCPH-30000) that I bought from HK, will it play GT4? I have heard many news regarding old PS2 having problems playing newer games. Thanks for your help.

No, it wont work. You'll have to mod it. Try searching the PS2 forum area for the answer to any questions for this topic.

I'm not 100% sure what your question is. If you have a non-japanese PS2 it won't play a japanese game without a mod. If your question is if your PS2 will play GT4 at all because it is so old, I don't think you'd have a problem. If you buy GT4 in your region when available, it should play fine. If you buy it elsewhere, it won't play on any unmodded PS2, no matter how old it is.

Newer PS2s do not have problems playing newer games.

And why don't you get the Asian (HK) version of GT4 instead of the Japanese one? It'll work on your HK PS2... or unless your SCPH-30000 is a Japanese PS2 :p

Just play a game you don't want while using the PS2 vertically. That will eventually ruin the lens, and you can call Sony and get a free PS2; if you explain you have an older model PS2.

Hello, i'm also new here.

The old model ps2, that probably will the 'big' version. I have the small, new model, so that should work just fine?
I thought the only differences between the old & new version are the size and the presence of a network adapter, or are there other hardware differences?

Nonono, we're all talking about the old PS2, not the PStwo. There were ten different versions of it, and wgt4 just wasn't sure if his would play GT4 because he has a v4 which is pretty old.

Well , I bought my PS2 last year (26th december) , it runs San Andreas very well.
Hopefully it will run GT4 normally.

my SCPH-10000 is still running great.... it even runs GTA SA great with no read error....... ur PS2 is not old compare to mine

If you have problems with PS2 like it wont read (dics error) then open up the PS2 put some grease on the laser rails and take the q tip and clean the laser and it will work like new

It's better to not risk it and just get a new one for free. Sony knows about the common laser errors the older PS2s have.

My PS2 is from the First batch of PAL PS2s in the U.K, It damn well better play GT4.

Its never had a problem playing anything else!

your PS2 is asian? i'm not 100% sure, but i think that japanese and chinese PS2's are compatible. don't know about korean PS2's though. those might have a different region.

I'll make a big red circle in my calendar on the day you'll ever give a serious answer to a question.

and ill put a big red circle in mine when a newbie manages to ask a smart question ;)

Well, I do understand the problem, and I must admit it's very bad in this forum. But I already stated that I'd put it like no newbie is allowed to open a thread when (s)he has less than let's say 20 or 30 posts. It's like that in other forums I visit, and it works like charm.

Thanks for all of your help. I guess I forgot to say this. I have a Japanese PS2 (SCPH-30000) which I bought it in HK. I am planning to buy the Japanese version or the Chinese version. I just hope both version will work on my PS2.

joke is on you if the guy is asking about a chinese playstation being compatible with a japanese model now isn't it?

at first it seems he's asking if "old" (big) playstations will play it, wich of course would be a retarded question and he would deserve to be shot, but he mentions HK.... so untill the guy actually clarifies this, stop assuming.

Yeah, if you have a Japanese PS2, it'll play Japanese GT4. Otherwise, a PS2 is a PS2 is a PS2. All you have to pay attention to is the Region Coding.

Oops, that makes me guilty. I didn't know it'd screw up your lense. Do you think they'd replace my old one with one of the slimmer ones if that were to happen?

No, in the U.S. Sony will just fix your ps2 for free if the only prob is DREs and there are no mod chips, or "evidence of tampering." In other countries... I don't know.

How exactly do you get one for free? Last three times Ive sent my brothers in for free repairs, I get the same one back...

Your not going to get a new PS2 anyway you look at it. They will repair your old one and send it back to you, only to have it break again.

Your PS2 should play everything thrown at it, I have the original (preordered early, picked up on day 1) and mine plays everything including DVDs and any type of disc thrown at it!

Mine is also the very first one (pre-ordered) and it playes everything including import games, burnt games, anything. The only thing I did to it was buy the swap disks for $18 so I could play burnt games.
But if soemthing does go wrong with them then they just repair it and send it back. Ive had mine repaired about 3 times. FREE from sony.
