I don't know what you people are doing to your PS2s to wreck them. I've had my PS2 for almost 4 years.

My point exactly ive had my ps1 for 7 years - havent had any problems and my ps2 for 3 years likewise no problems.

If your PS2 is not running certain games get a new one.

You said you went to a games shop and it worked there fine - logic says somethings wrong with yours so get a new one and everyone will be happy. :)

👍

I can also run the GT4 demo & BMW demo no problem.

It can be a bit of a pain in the arse swapping discs everytime you want to play a burned/import game, but that's why I just leave my PS2 running all the time until I want to play a different game :D

Did you remove the rubber pads on the bottom of the PS2? All the screws are under little covers like those. Just peel them off with your fingernail.

ah! thanks for the hint. i'll try it today.

I read with interest the threads regarding GT4 and older PS2s.

Does the crux of the problem lie with the fact that it is a dvd9?

My PS2 is a 39001, and an ntsc u/c. I can run Xenosaga (which is a DVD9). Does this mean that I can run GT4? I also have a messiah 2 chip installed to run imports...

Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks!

I checked my PS2 and it said SCPH-30002. I have never had any problems with it and I can play San Andreas and GT4 Prologue fine. A friend of mine had to get another PS2 because he always moved his old PS2 around so the movement probably shook up all the stuff inside causing the problem.

If GT:SA works fine on your SCHP-30002 model ps2 then it GT4 would work exellent on my SCHP-50004 :)

My PS2 is a SCPH 18000 which should be considered an old one because I bought it in Japan long before they were even available in the states. In fact, I had a heck of a time finding one because every store in Japan seemed to have sold their PS2 stock out.

Anyway, it runs GT4 just fine. DVDs are another matter altogether. Out of some thirty DVDs I own, it will only play two of them.

I use my PS2(forgot the model number, it was a first release for the US though, got it several days after PS2 came out in the US(my mom found it, people were running through the Best Buy with em, they got a shipment in and like 15 mins later they were all gone)) vertically, and have constently(except while on vacation) used it vertically. The lens did get messed up and it wouldn't read CD-based games. DVD games were never a problem. Called up Sony in Aug. 2002 I think it was, sent it out, they returned it with a new lens and a new trey. Every once in a while it won't read a game, but I just pop in a CD lens cleaner disc and it works fine.

When you say that they send you a new one...what style would it be if I did that now? I guess since I don't have big problems I won't worry about it.

Hi. I am new here. I have searched this forum and I couldn't find the information I need. I have asked my cousin to purchase the Japanese version of GT4 for me. Since I have an old PS2 (Model SCPH-30000) that I bought from HK, will it play GT4? I have heard many news regarding old PS2 having problems playing newer games. Thanks for your help.

Hello there.

I've also a PS2 SCPH-30000 in HK.

MINE DOESN'T WORK!!! (I've bought the GT4 HK Chinese ver)

It's a 110v set with MOd.

I guess I could not bring to sony and demand a new PS2, 'cos it's a Japanese set + Moded. Such a sad case for me.

I guess I would have to buy the new slim PS2. All the best to you.

It should play, although the numbers are different, it just means subtle redesigns that noone ever sees. Although Sony did do their best to fix the laser errors, which was hte main reason for different models.

Certainly an Asian or Japanese PS2 ought to be able to play GT4 (Asian, Chinese or Japanese versions). I have a slimline Asian PS2 and that is happy with my Japanese GT4.

Could this "GT4 not able to play on old PS2" problem happen to the US version???

I sure hope not, but if it does doesn't matter. I'm buying the new PS2 (Slim version) this week.
