Will standard cars ever get a decent cockpit view?

No. Almost sure that never will happen.
It's a logical limit, as you has exposed... 1070+ cockpits designs... and there are most sensitive features in the game that still deserve a last attempt to improve it.

Can't be too quick to put it out of contention though. If you look at all the standard interiors now they are templates that need 'filling in'. I make it sound simple but they are there for this game or possibly the next to do That's my thoughts on it

With the amount of duplicate standard cars there are, its not 1070 cockpit designs. its more like 400.

Completely reasonable thing to expect.

(Granted there is a huge difference between a premium cockpit and a premium entire car)

This is exactly what I'm thinking. I highly doubt PD will just get rid of the 800+ standard cars in GT5 for GT6. I also doubt there will be standard cars in GT6 because that would be a step backwards. I'm guessing PD will exclude some duplicates/ similar cars from GT6, but hopefully those cockpit views get finished and there are no more standard cars when GT6 comes out.

I am seriously hoping the 2.0 interior views are the preliminary work on spec 3.0 upgrades. I dont think all the cars will be full premiums till GT6, but I hope to see the cars get interiors like open top standard models, functioning gauges aren't that important to me, but the overall feel of being in a car is great. I first experienced this in Test Drive Unlimited (PS2 of course) and I was hooked, part of the reason I bought a ps3 and GT5!

I would prefer they modify the roof cam, lower it to drivers eye level and add a rearview mirror. That would be the perfect view and should be much easier than modeling interiors.
